Hey now, it's not just "one of the chief engineers" it's John motherfucking Carmack we're talking about here. And if somebody snatched one of the most talented coders of the last 30 years from you well you'd be as salty as the lake in Utah as well.

Not so obvious because 580 with 512 cores beat/on par with 680 which got 3x more cores in many productivity/GPGPU enviroment. 680 core clock also much higher. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

GTA:V never choke my 290x VRAM even at 4x MSAA@1080p.

Most of DX11 games, from what i've seen so far DX12/Vulkan/Mantle generally use more VRAM so 2GB won't cut it and probably 3GB as well. We've seen that in Doom and Hitman.

Definitely get the 6GB if price different is not big, like $30-$50 big.

Not huge enough gain for an upgrade.
I hope Vega is well balance and have similar if not better overhead efficiency like the 480 and not simply MOARR CORES MOAR POWAHH like the Fiji cards.

On other hand i hope Fiji cards will still relevant in few more years when software finally catch up to fully utilize it's hardware.

If few extra FPS and lower power consumption doesn't matter to you then i can't argue with that. Yeah FreeSync monitor is cheaper and Vue24 is probably the best budget FreeSync monitor so far and no Gsync monitor can match that.
Not sure why you said it's marketing when both camp definitely benefit from it when implemented properly.

Please just stop, if you actually did any research you'd know that you were talking nonsense. Yes, having proper schedulers does increase power consumption, but you get both a performance and latency boost. With Nvidia's context switching you get performance at the cost of latency. Not to mention it's very hard to programme for, even the slightest mistake can massively increase latency and degrade performance. Async compute has other advantages as well, for example with AMD's TrueAudio Next hardware audio processing is done on idle time in the shader cores, allowing low latency unachievable in taxing context switching.

Moving on, FreeSync isn't inferior. I seem to remember a LTT video of the two technologies switching place in which got the lowest delay.
Also you can't really use your CrossFireX experience as a relatable anecdote because I seem to remember you trying to do it to a 390(X) and a 290(X) where one was a custom PCB and one wasn't.
Now, for the last two points my memory was a bit hazy, but I'm adamant on my first one.

The misconception that somehow NVIDIA's drivers are always better never fails to amaze me. Bottom line - they're both good/shit.

Don't ask yourself that question. People are FAR to paranoid about this topic. its not that big of a deal (unless you're pairing a titan with a pentium)Ask this question instead, "Will a gaming rig with an i3 6100 and an RX 480 be a decent 1080p gaming experience?"

    Yes. Yes it will.

Of course, if you can afford a better CPU, then you should get a better CPU. But I assume you're asking this because you don't want to cough up the money to a more expensive CPU like an i5 6500. Don't feel like you're obligated to do that.
