if you bought two of the same model it should work without any issues.

you can see them working in the video i made about it - it's in german but i also added english subtitles (sorry for shameless self promotion but i did not find a lot of videos from other people about it)

VIA was a big name in the late 90's to early 2000's - they had CPU's, GPU's and mainboard chipsets - but the performance ranged from less-than-awesome to terrible.

cyrix has been acquired by national semiconductor and the Cyrix Microprocessors Division then has been sold to VIA in 1999

i thought via x86 CPUs appeared earlier but i guess my memory is not correct and it was after this deal that via appeared on the CPU market.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from LogicalDrm in How do you get more fan headers?
3 pin fans can still be controlled via voltage tho. there should be a setting in the bios where you can switch between PWM or voltage control.

keep in mind that only ONE fan on a splitter can have RPM read out.

Pro tip: People here aren't on the up and up with old computers , post this to vogons. Literally the whole site is dedicated to older machines.

As far as your problem , unplug the hard drive from the board. If the hard drive is dead or not responding it can lock up the bios from doing anything at all (little known fact about ide drives). basically unplug all the drives untill the machine reaches a resting point and says it has no boot devices , then reconnect the drives until you have something to boot from.

KenjiUmino reacted to Master Disaster in 90s Dell Dimension not loading
First off it will almost certainly require a new battery.

I'd say your issue is it doesn't have a hard drive, or if it does it's unplugged/dead.

Open it up and look for a hard drive, if one is connected then unplug it.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from johnukguy in how to run steam games form old hdd on new ssd without installing on ssd?
ok ... let me try to untangle this:

it sounds like you used a HDD for the whole system before and just upgraded to a SSD recently, probably doing a fresh install of windows on the SSD like you should.

if you did a fresh install of windows - i think you need to install steam again as well.
you can install steam either to SSD or HDD, i recommend installing to the SSD.
but ONLY the steam application - not the games.

as soon as you can start the steam application, then do as @Cyberspirit said and add the games folder that is already existing on you HDD to the steam library folders.

Install Steam on the SSD then go to Steam settings > Downloads > Steam Library folders > Add Library folder then just select the folder on the HHD where your old Steam files are.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Damascus in Single PC Streaming
often, but not always. there are situations where the GPU can not go all out or does not even need to.

one example would be either with vsync enabled or in games with a framerate cap - like rocket league and some capcom games

speaking of framerate caps - i just fired up portal 2 out of curiosity and turned vsync off - that game is playable on even the worst potato so it should be able to push out fps like crazy on my system. the truth is, it would not go above 288 fps. the GPU never went above 60% and the CPU not above 40% either

does that mean the game is limited at just under 300 fps or what?

anyways, if you notice that your GPU is pinned at (or near) 100% while the CPU is not doing much then the GPU is probably the reason why you don't get more fps. a better graphics card might help here

when the CPU is at 100% but the GPU is sitting at 40-60% then it's the CPU that is holding you back.
if you see this happen and get worse when you start streaming the game then a new graphics card will NOT help and you either need a beefier CPU or drop to a lower encoder preset (or use nvenc)

Check your BIOS to see if you have hot-swap enabled on the drive and disable it if it is. That should help.
