    2. you sell your AM4 system and want to build another AM4 system ? where is the logic in that?

i guess you may have more money left if you sell your R9 and the Ryzen 5 1600, keep the mainboard and ram and just drop a 2200G on it so the system can still be used

or you can just keep the board, build a nice wooden case around it and use it as a not-so-portable surfbox / homeserver thing.

looks like the CPU is socketed on this one so you could even upgrade it later.
used laptop CPUs are not that expensive AFAIK

it is still regular DDR 4 RAM so it is not nearly as fast as having real GDDR vram.

in my own tests with a ryzen 2400G on 8gb dual channel 2666 RAM - it either made not much difference or even hurt performance.

i ran tests with the setting on "auto" and with 2gb reserved

So yes, the charger would be safe to use.

    look up HDMI ARC.

optical audio and coax SPDIF has severe limitations.
it won't do more than 2 channel PCM - that means no PCM or "HD" surround sound over optical - only AC3 a.k.a. "dolby digital" or DTS.

make sure you have the TV set to output sound via HDMI ARC (audio return channel) and have the soundbar connected to the correct HDMI port on the TV (only one of them is ARC capable)

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Noxuletz in High pitched sound from psu (I think)
usually, coil whine gets worse when there is more stress on the coils but on some devices it can totally happen that the whine is always present even when idle.

that PSU i talked about makes that noise as soon as the power button is pressed.

i even had coil whine on phone chargers - i could tell when the phone had finished charging because the pitch would change slightly but the noise was always present, even with no phone connected.

    this.

if you got a single headphone/mic combo jack, you need a splitter because the contact points on the combo jack don't match the mic plug and the laptop is usually configured to mute the speakers as soon as it detects ANYTHING plugged into that jack because it assumes that whatever has been plugged in to be a headphone or headset type.

i did not expect anything to change.

i expect those who care about privacy to have their privacy settings in check anyways and not share much personal information to begin with or avoid the platform alltogether

and those who are too ignorant or too stupid to care ... well ... they didn't care about their privacy then so they probably won't start caring now.

    no.

the riser cards with the usb ports you see all over amazon and other sites only use the usb cable as a means to transmit PCIe signals.

this is not a usb port electrically as it is carrying a different signal and thus can't be used on regular usb ports. they could have used HDMI cables instead or whatever else has enough wires in it.

just buy a usb capture box if you don't have any free PCIe slots.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Carl Fredrik Ahl in [HELP] Hyper Threading
ummm, nope. not better at all. because that means your computer can only do ONE thing at a time ... and i mean ONE thing.

maybe it would finish faster but you CAN'T use the computer for anything else - that may not sound like a big deal if it is about many small tasks that finish fast but if your computer is encoding a video for an hour, that is what your computer does.

you would not be listening to music while you wait for the encode to finish.

in fact - even with all the timeslice multitasking 'n' stuff - this is pretty much how computers behaved back when single core CPUs without hyperthreading was all we had.

the last single core i had was an athlon 64 3200+ - arguably faster than a pentium 4 @ 3200 MHz but when my athlon system was encoding a video and the CPU was pinned at 100%, i could not use the computer for anything else. it litteraly took a minute to open the start menu.

now the pentium 4 also only had one single core - but it had hyper threading.
the CPU was pinned at 100% but the system was still responsive.
i could encode videos AND do light stuff on the side at the same time - listen to music, check my email and things like that.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Olli_ in Will the Ryzen CPUs have a iGPU?
if my information is correct, it would not be possible to integrate an iGPU into a ryzen CPU with more than 4 cores without some heavy modification to the design as it is.

previous ryzen CPUs had 4 cpu cores + cache bundled into whats called a "core complex" or CCX and there were always two of these CCX units on the package with different but symmetrical number of cores disabled on each side.

that means a 4 core ryzen would have 2 cores out of both CCX units disabled.
likewise, a 6 core would get 3 cores per CCX enabled.

on the 2200G and 2400G they replaced one of the CCX units with a GPU unit and enabled all 4 cores on the single remaining CCX to keep die space the same. (as far as i know)

to have 6 or more useable cores you need BOTH CCX units - and have no spot to put a GPU unit.

so i doubt we will see a 6 or 8 core ryzen with integrated graphics.
