  1. when fans ramp up, it's usually for a reason. mainboards do a pretty good job with their integrated fan controllers in my experience. many newer boards even let you set a custom fan cure so if you don't want the fans to go over 60% you can configute it right there. then again.... if fans have to run over 60% all day it might be time to overhaul the cooling
  2. no. the riser cards with the usb ports you see all over amazon and other sites only use the usb cable as a means to transmit PCIe signals. this is not a usb port electrically as it is carrying a different signal and thus can't be used on regular usb ports. they could have used HDMI cables instead or whatever else has enough wires in it. just buy a usb capture box if you don't have any free PCIe slots.
  3. sorry for gettinh off topic, but: any experience with aukey keyboards ? i have seen a mechanical TKL keyboard from aukey on sale for 30 bucks right now and my current keyboard just died (black widow tournament 2014) so i am looking for a replacement that isn't expensive (30-40 bucks) but also does not suck this thing any gud? i bought a vic tsing for the same price last year that looked very much like the aukey and died after a week.
  4. i have that one and it works a treat. the one you linked even has the power brick inlcuded. i bought the cheaper option that did not come with a power brick included and i have not used mine with 3.5" drives yet.
  5. yes. but not simply "more" power - also different voltages. while 2.5" drives can be operated on 5V - 3.5" drives need 5V and 12V. USB has only 5V so all the usb powered SATA adapters can't run 3.5" drives. it has to be a model with a power brick
  6. i did a quick google search on the topic and it seems like you are not the only one with this issue - but no real solutions came up yet. i found THIS post on the sysnative.com forum wich at least somehow had the problem solved but the way they "solved" the problem was to reset windows ...
  7. i think this has nothing to do with BIOS as the OP is talking about a feature inside windows to make legacy software (as in "ridiculously old games") run again. something like this - i guess ?
  8. it also works more relieable than some on-screen BS ... when the whole thing hangs so bad the screen stops responding - an on-screen button is useless
  9. that means no variable refresh ? makes freesync kind of pointless if it wasn't for the extra 15 Hz
  10. freesync on nvidia card ? did i miss something ?
  11. look for monitors with 1366x768 resolution - they are usually somewhere in the neighborhood of 18.5" and not terribly expensive (especially when you get a refurb unit) keep in mind that many of them have VGA connectors only but a HDMI to VGA converter can be had for around 10 bucks
  12. a same generation i7 would be about as bad.
  13. (3) let the mainboards integrated fan controller take care of the case fans. the R9 390 will handle its own fans - no need to fiddle with anything and no need to have software running in the background.
  14. whats the surprise? smartphone apps do this all the time.
  15. picture difference: none - it does work or it does not the 10$ cable might be built more sturdy and last longer. if those 8 bucks more only went into gold plated connectors and a shiny package box then it was a waste of money because this does not do much to improve lifetime or the amount of mechanical abuse the cable can take before it breaks
  16. yep... looks like that is what they did.
  17. i guess that would be true for lga 1366 i7 CPUs too
  18. do you guys have anything that backs this up with some details on whe how and why? last thing i heard was that there is no real difference in game performance between xeon CPUs and their consumer counterparts (4C/8T haswell xeon @ 3.4 GHz = 4C/8T haswell core i7 @ 3.4 GHz)
  19. has to be comfortable to hold for long time has to be xinput compatible natively a wired controller is preferred (because batteries always die in the most inconvenient situation)
  20. a 4 + 16 setup would suck for dual channel operation ... who the fuck came up with this brilliant idea ? the damn thing can fit a 2.5" HDD and a DVDRW but "yo, a 2nd ram slot is not allowed because that would make the laptop be too THICC" congratulations lenovo, you just out-appled apple if you gonna be an asshole, be the whole asshole and solder everything down. srsly, fuck this thin & light shit.
  21. wasn't my intention but it looks like contacts are not accessible from this side of the PCB either way.
  22. 300 bucks ? that is hardly enough for a gaming PC without peripherals i'd hug my pillow and cry for half an hour. and then i'd be hunting for bargains and used deals as hard as humanly possible.
