  1. if your VM software can do direct PCI pass thru then it should not be an issue. i doubt this will work. sure does not work on a windows OS.
  2. some underpaid & overworked dude at the assembly line forgot put screws in so stuff can fall apart and fly around inside the device totally happened - had to repair a brand new 16ch mixer today where the 4 screws meant to hold down the FX board were completely missing. shipping damage is a thing as well. technically not the manufacturers concern because the shipping company has to stand up for it
  3. what is the question? HBM and GDDR is mostly used in graphics cards - and AMD and NVIDIA are the only brands that still manufacture and sell real dedicated graphics cards worth using fast memory AFAIK.
  4. because in 99.5% of cases, physical damage is the users fault. warranty only only applies when the manufacturer fucked it up. most retailers are happy to sell you an insurance against user fuck ups and whatnot along with whatever you bought.
  5. i did not buy the dragonforce - it just "showed up by the doorstep" one day - pulled that out of the half dead computer my brothers GF showed up with - so - i guess i should have thrown it away right when i pulled it out the case - right? i think i'll take the 300W silverstone - for now.
  6. it was from 20% to 100% actually, but yeah, indeed no mention of ripple or how much load on individual rails in particular. either way - i guess i better throw that one away then. but i really don't want to spend more money than i absolutely need to. how about the SFX PSU? its a SST-ST30SF
  7. I want to build a PC as soon as possible and avoid as many new purchases as i can but the only PSUs i have on hand at the moment are this dragon force ATX unit and a 300W silverstone SFX. the components will be: core i5 4590 cheapo asrock H81 board GTX 750 ti (without 6 pin connector) 1xSSD + 2xHDD i want a black & orange theme in the Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L case and the dragon force would fit this theme nicely - here's a picture: i have dug up some old reviews from tomshardware and the likes about this unit and it seems to be ok-ish. according to these reviews, it has the most important protection features (overload, overcurrent, overvoltage, overheat, short) and the voltages were found to be "well within the 5% tolerance" in different load scenarios. sounds good on paper but the thing is that i have used this unit recently with a ryzen 2400G and the system was unstable even at stock speeds so i don't know what to do with it. it was the cheapest of the bunch in any review i found and i never heard of that brand ever so i wonder if it is safe to use at all?
  8. oh yes ... power adapters (and switching PSUs in general) just love to make noise.
  9. except when the noise is only introduced into the analog circuitry and not present on the digital optical output (if there is any) often times, eliminating noise from the sound cards analog output can be as simple as using an isolating transformer right after the output jack
  10. i did not expect anything to change. i expect those who care about privacy to have their privacy settings in check anyways and not share much personal information to begin with or avoid the platform alltogether and those who are too ignorant or too stupid to care ... well ... they didn't care about their privacy then so they probably won't start caring now. i don't even know what the outcry is all about - because: no surprises here.
  11. if the damage is visible from both sides then i'd say that card is done for.
  12. i guess so - the question is: how much better.
  13. i have heard about 1.1.1.1 recently but i wonder if they are really "better" - a lot of services popped up around the whole privacy thing recently and they all claim to not keep records this and being faster that and whatever. i am questioning if they really offer any benefit or just taking advantage of people being scared.
  14. i never changed drivers when going from one nvidia card to another nvidia card ... and i never had problems with that ...
  15. maybe it has to do with the "memory remap feature" that some BIOSes have this needs to be enabled for 64 bit systems AFAIK
  16. varies by provider an what you signed up for. the exact details should be written in your contract
  17. you also get a nice text on the bottom right that your windows is not activated. the thing is that this text stays visible in some games. not a big deal on its own but if you want to stream or record your gameplay to show off to the world - depending on your capture method - this text may get captured along with the game so the whole world knows that you are a pirate
  18. if you are looking for a DAW software, check out REAPER (https://www.reaper.fm/) it's technically not "free" but you have unlimited trial time without any limit on functionality. they only throw you a nagscreen each time the software is started.
  19. if my information is correct, it would not be possible to integrate an iGPU into a ryzen CPU with more than 4 cores without some heavy modification to the design as it is. previous ryzen CPUs had 4 cpu cores + cache bundled into whats called a "core complex" or CCX and there were always two of these CCX units on the package with different but symmetrical number of cores disabled on each side. that means a 4 core ryzen would have 2 cores out of both CCX units disabled. likewise, a 6 core would get 3 cores per CCX enabled. on the 2200G and 2400G they replaced one of the CCX units with a GPU unit and enabled all 4 cores on the single remaining CCX to keep die space the same. (as far as i know) to have 6 or more useable cores you need BOTH CCX units - and have no spot to put a GPU unit. so i doubt we will see a 6 or 8 core ryzen with integrated graphics.
  20. depends on your home internet provider. some do.
  21. sounds like dead RAM slots.
  22. don't buy a HD 6350 - or anything without GDDR memory - they all suck.
  23. never seen a drive be "too old" to be detected. there was a time when SATA II drives would not work on some older mainboards with SATA I controller and the drives had a jumper for this but i have never seen a SATA drive be too old for a controller.
  24. i wonder what do you need more speed for? i'd rather have one be the boot drive and use the other for files and games and stuff. makes more sense in my book but YMMV
  25. reasons to buy the 2400G: it has SMT (moar threddz) it has the slightly better vega 11 graphics reasons to buy the 2200G: it is cheaper
