  1. Hi, my name is Noah and I'm a very inexperienced mobile modder trying to install a custom ROM to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950U) and I'm stuck at one part of the process. I've read that you can flash a custom ROM using TWRP, so I'm trying to get TWRP installed to my device but I'm having a very stressful issue. I'm around the point where you use Windows command prompt to run adb and fastboot to flash TWRP to the device, but I'm stuck halfway through the process. My device is powered on and connected. I have enabled USB debugging. After running the command "adb devices" my device is listed. I then run "adb reboot bootloader", and that works just fine. My phone successfully boots to download mode. Here's where I'm stuck. I run "fastboot devices" to make sure my device is still connected properly, and nothing shows up. I try running the fastboot flash recovery command anyways and it unsurprisingly does nothing. I researched far and wide across the internet for a solution and so far the consensus is that I'm missing a USB driver that allows fastboot to connect to my device properly, and installing drivers is no big deal to me, but I'm lost as to what to install them to? My device doesn't show up as a "mobile phone" or under the "other devices" dropdown of my Windows device manager, so I don't know where to install the USB driver (which I received from Google's Android developers page.) All I see is some nonsense that doesn't seem to help. If there are any experienced Android modders willing to provide any help or advice, that would be greatly appreciated! I'm really stuck Thanks, Noah
  2. Hi, I am in search of a new set of fans for my computer. I desperately need to beef up my cooling because of an incident I had while rendering in Cinema 4D today. I started the render and my current single exhaust fan kicked in on high, as expected. I normally open Piriform Speccy to check my temperature and make sure it's not getting ridiculous. I know this is really bad but my CPU and motherboard temperatures idle at 40-55°C, and when I render, it can get as high as 75°-ish. When I went to check the temperatures, my CPU was at 82°C. I'm genuinely concerned about the life of my CPU from this day forward without changing my cooling setup. My i7 2600 sandybridge has held up since early 2011 with no problems until today, and I'm afraid it might die sometime soon without change. Thermal paste replacement would be a good start, but I don't want to have issues like today ever again. - Current specs: i7 2600 Sandybridge @ 3.4GHz 16GB DDR3 665.1MHz RAM Dell 0Y2MRG Motherboard (Stock with this model of XPS) Seagate ST2000DM001-9YN164 7200RPM HDD with 1863 GB storage ATI AMD Radeon HD 5770 (Released in October of 2009, it's really old, I know.) Some of the standard parts like the installed RAM amount and storage were upgraded manually by my dad a few years after we bought it in 2011. https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-xps-8300-core-i7-2600-3-4-ghz-monitor-none-series/specs/ - I am currently saving for a new computer, but that won't be for a long time; I estimate about 4-6 months before I have the required funds to purchase all the parts and get building. If you're interested in the part list, here is the build on PCPartPicker. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/z9dGxY My friend recommended that CPU cooler, and I'm most likely going to replace the ghastly brown and tan stock Noctua fan with something more appealing. The reason I'm coming to the forum to ask this instead of buying some random Corsair or Noctua fans to get my by until the new PC is being built is because I don't want to have to purchase new fans after I upgrade, I'd much prefer to hold on to the ones I buy now for my future build. That would require the fans to consist of a stylish appeal (my current case does not have a side window but the case I will get does have one), correct size for both cases (my current case and the new case) and preferably some fans with controllable RGB lighting built-in. The new PC build will include an NZXT Hue+, but I want the fans to have RGB capabilities as well to up the ante. My current computer is a 2011 Dell XPS 8300 desktop, and I am unsure on the exact width and height sizes for the fan slots, although I'm fairly certain they're just a standard 120mm. The new case is the Phanteks Enthoo Evolve TG. Once again, the reason I ask to recommend some fans instead of me picking myself is because I am unsure that the ones I might pick are compatible with both cases. Thanks in advance!
  3. When I said "DAC being able to power it", I meant quality-wise. Could I get the most quality out of them with the onboard sound of my phone? (PC too?) I'm not concerned about power.
  4. Hey everyone, I recently purchased the AKG K553 Pro Studio Headphones from Massdrop, and they haven't quite shipped yet. I was wondering if the built-in DAC on my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will be able to drive such powerful headphones. As for my computer, I can almost guarantee my 5 year old motherboard's onboard sound won't sound great so I'll probably purchase an external DAC/Amp combo. Please leave me some thoughts! Thanks for reading :-) -Noah
  5. I personally have used the Logitech G710+ for about 1.5 years now, and I would highly recommend it. Comes paired with easy to remove key caps for easy cleaning and switching (no remover tool required), 6 macro keys that can be programmed through the software to whatever function you want, as well as 3 switchable profiles totaling 18 different functions, full number pad and media controls, included removable wrist rest, and basically anything else you'd want in a keyboard. The G710+ has Cherry Brown switches, alternatively the G710 (no +) has Cherry Blue switches, whichever suits you better.
