  1. Hello, i'm having a bit of a weird issue. While I left to do something yesterday for an hour, I left my PC on and when I returned I realized that my mother had cleaned the desk and the keyboard and in the process managed to randomly do something to one of the folder files I have on my desktop. When I turned the screen on I saw a prompt that was asking if I wanted to permanently delete the file (which had been renamed into gibberish), I quickly simply clicked "no" but the file did not reappear in the desktop, it was gone, and it is not in the recycle bin either. So I don't know where the folder is now, what was done with it, and I don't know how it's titled as like I said, it had somehow been renamed into gibberish that I didn't bother playing close attention to because I thought the situation was no big deal. How the hell do I find this folder now? It was several GB's big with plenty of pictures and videos. In the windows search bar I searched for some of the files inside of the mentioned file and they don't appear... sigh.
  2. Budget (including currency): 700 dollars Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Nothing extraordinary other than perhaps some AAA games at current gen equivalent graphics power, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro/other video editing software. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I would like small form factor, as small as possible. So here's the deal, I got an M1 Macbook Air but I'm a little jaded by the underwhelming battery life. I got the Air because it seemed good for what I wanted it for, which was mainly for web surfing and some video editing (nothing too extravagant) but now I'm wondering if I can maybe refund this thing and use some of the money instead to build a PC that is small and capable enough for good video editing and maybe some gaming quality that is not too far off from what a PS5 could do. I'm not looking for anything extravagant, just pondering if I can build something that is capable of performing at least at similar levels to the Air and with enough juice to very casually play a modern AAA game at 1080p for example. Thanks.
  3. Long story short, my M1 Macbook Air lasts around 6 hours running full brightness and Safari with on and off Youtube and on and off Spotify at full volume, is this considered normal? There seems to be a lot of deluded circle jerk hyperbole going on in the internet regarding the M1 line's battery life, hyping it up to high heaven but there's also a lot of people documenting their cognitive dissonance regarding the underwhelming battery life they are seeing, relative at least to the purported hype. I saw this video where this guy says that according to his testing the M1 Air's battery will die in 8 hours if you leave the computer idle at full brightness and if that's true then perhaps the hours I get seem understandable. Alas, I'm probably going to try and get a refund while I still can as I consider the battery life lame and I will not budge and I will not further sacrifice what I consider to be perfectly normal usage just to try to get closer to the self indulgent hype that Apple advertises, the deluded Apple apologists can eat that cake.
  4. For starters, I'll preface by saying that I pride myself on being against materialism, consumerism, and against being some kind of fanboy sheep that thoughtlessly bends over for multi-billion dollar corporations and their shady practices. I like minimalism aesthetically, practically, and ideologically. Having said this, it was great to discover Louis Rossmann recently and his views on tech companies, right to repair, etc., but now I'm left asking myself... who CAN I buy from? When it comes to PCs I suppose I can opt to build my own again since the one I built more than 5 and a half years ago needs replacing and I prefer to be able to really OWN something and also be able to repair it and/or modify it as needed, but what about if I want a laptop? I'd like to have things that are aesthetically pleasing, yes, but also that are functional, durable and fixable, what are my options? Rossmann has convinced me that buying from Apple is like selling your soul to the devil, especially for someone who already has the ideological presuppositions that I have, and it's a shame since I like how their products look, but I'll be damned if I give away my money to buy something that is seemingly designed from the ground up to go against the consumer's best interests. I understand that Apple is not the ONLY evil when it comes to this, but they do seem to be in the avant-garde of this dilemma (lol). What can I expect from other companies? If I buy a Lenovo, Samsung, Sony, HP, or Dell laptop for example, how will these compare to Apple and to each other when it comes to reparability, functionality, durability, performance, etc.? Reparability and durability are probably my biggest gripes since I would think most else can be accounted for in one way or the other.
  5. I tried restarting and it did power on again but I couldn't catch what keys to push at the very beginning of the booting as the screen went by quickly, do you know what they are? Thanks.
  6. Well right now the computer is on, I assume that to go to BIOS I would need to restart and press some keys shortly after it restarts? I can try that, and then what?
  7. Hello, so i'm having some problems with my computer and I have some questions about what steps to take to try to fix it. This is a computer I built back in summer 2015 for gaming and it survived an orange juice spill that caught the GPU on fire (GPU was destroyed) and i've been using the CPU's integrated graphics for more than 4 years now. Maybe about a month and a half ago the computer experienced a couple of instances where the screen would go haywire and the image would perpetually shake, the effect was kinda similar to white noise and it could only be resolved if I restarted the computer. Two weeks later the computer stopped booting (I think that's the term i'm looking for) as when I pushed the power button the computer would try to turn on for 5 seconds and then turn off and then the process would repeat itself until I'd give up and manually press the power button again to turn off the computer. Ever since then, the computer has managed to fully turn on and stay on just a couple of times (I consider it a miracle that I'm using it to type this right now) and I don't expect this to simply go away. TLDR: Computer won't boot, it turns on when I push the power button, turns off a handful of seconds later and then restarts the process perpetually without the computer being able to ever show anything on the screen. Some questions: 1. What does it sound like this could be? 2. Is there a relatively simple way for me to be able to diagnose and fix this myself (with help from the internet of course)? 3. If I take this to a computer repair shop, what should I tell the folks there and what sort of prices should I be expecting to see? I'm honestly ready to move on from this computer but If I can fix it for under 100 dollars or so then I'd consider it. In fact, how much is the average cost for diagnosing, fixing, and cleaning a computer in a repair shop? If I could get some simple and direct help on how I could do all that myself then perhaps it could be a fun side project. Thanks.
  8. Yep, i was on Youtube on the PC when this happened.
  9. Ya, as ridiculous and/or irrational as the question might seem, the situation is that yesterday i bought a new PS4 and connected it to the second HDMI port on my TV (i only have my PC and PS4 connected to it) and everything was working fine until today, when using the computer, the TV screen began to flicker in between the image and solid black until its current state in which there is a permanent black screen with a flicker of what should actually appear every 1 minute or so. I moved the TV and tried it in two other electrical outlets to no avail and i should also point out that the PS4 was connected to a different power outlet than the TV when this happened. Pure coincidence and it is time for this 7 year old TV to bow out or did the PS4 have something to do with it? Incredible turn of events for me.
  10. So it appears no one has a clue in this forum about such a simple question? Oh well, shame.
  11. I really need help with this. There's a website called footballia where one can watch old soccer matches; this website uses JWPlayer as their video player and i had never had problems watching the matches with this player in the past but last week i used it for the first time in maybe 6 months and i found out that the videos won't actually load or buffer properly. I tried updating flash player, using chrome, firefox, and windows edge, and nothing improves the situation. I contacted website owners and they said it was probably my connection as they haven't been getting alot of complaints... My internet should be good enough to watch these videos, what could be the matter, any advice? Videos will buffer incredibly slowly to the point that it never catches up, and if i let it sit and open another tab it doesn't buffer further.
  12. So there's this soccer website, footballia.net, where you can watch old soccer matches, but i haven't been able to recently because the buffering for the videos (uploaded with JWPlayer) is endless, the video never loads fast enough, and so im left wondering here what i can do to fix this? This kind of buffering didn't used to happen with this website, now i can't watch anything.
  13. So i've been trying to look for the best tattoo artists in my state but the search has been complicated by instagram's apparent lack of enough search tools. For example, there are some instagram accounts that follow incredible tattoo artists and repost/share those artists' works. I wish i could go to these accounts that gather artists and look at the location of those they are following so that i could see if any of those artists live near me... But i cant.. and hash tags such as #newyorktattoo are far too general and throw too much crap, it doesnt seem like i can search hash tags (like #dotwork for example) by location. Anyone know of any software or whatever strategies that can give me more options? Any advice for my specific situation? Thanks.
  14. I'm tired of this bull#@## situation where i visit a whole bunch of sports streams websites before a soccer game and no matter whether they are HD, SD, or Potato Definition, they all stutter or fail completely. My internet isn't terrible, so what is this that causes these buffering problems? I can't watch anything reliably.
  15. For several months now my (2012 Macbook Pro) Keyboard has been showing input problems, this type of problem had happened a little in the past, but it seems like it has become permanent now. Letters dfghjkl more often than not don't work and as a result i have to either press hard and at angles so it works, or push all keyboard buttons like crazy until i get some kind of input, or simply give up. Is this software or hardware problems? enough is enough.
