Fr4nt1s3k got a reaction from PickleWickle in Getting Black Flicker When Gaming
Disable Freesync / G-sync in global settings, application settings and monitor itself.
It will fix your problem and you probably won't notice a few torn pictures at those refresh rates.
If this helps, you can try playing with those Freesync settings a bit (enable globally, enable in application etc....). Black screen for a few seconds hapens when you switch from disabled/enabled "sync" environment (desktop with Freesync, game without Freesync enabled).

Why not both? 1440p 144hz is the sweet spot, but you need a decent system to drive it.

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to Fourjays in Looking for new monitor, unsure about IPS though
I ended up getting a Samsung C24FG73 (curved VA) and so far it has been fantastic. I'm loving the contrast and colours - every game I open feels like I'm playing it for the first time again. ? There is a tiny bit of softness to some text, but it is very font/size/color/background specific. For example, everything on this forum, the address bar and bookmarks bar are all crystal clear. Only the text on Firefox's tabs is affected. Even then only if I look closely. I barely notice it at my normal sitting distance.
Thanks for your advice @Fr4nt1s3k.

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to homeap5 in Any way to turn off a display?
Use some program like DisplayFusion and create shortcut to single / multiple monitor configuration. If you have only 2 monitors, you don't need special software - WIN+P is all you need.

Fr4nt1s3k got a reaction from Fourjays in Looking for new monitor, unsure about IPS though
No, not at all.
The only downsides is slight ghosting (only visible in UFO test)... and hey, some games even have "motion blur" effect which requires GPU computation!
You'll get a tiny bit of that for free! During gaming, you'll be stunned by the deep black colour instead of ugly gray, more colours etc..
And about 3 of the millions of pixels are dead.
I looked for them by putting yellow / green / red / blue / white / black... images on the screen. I didn't notice them during normal use.
I was also hesitating between AOC and ASUS monitors, but since I already have a MSI GPU and motherboard, I gave them the chance again. They didn't fail ^^

Nah, there's definitely difference, especially if you're on very competitive level in certain shooters.

You guys are so not fun ;(

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to aisle9 in When should you throw your GPU in the oven ?
Putting your GPU in an oven will send lead-based solder wafting around in it and make your home reek to the point that it's uninhabitable. If you're going to try this (don't), do it outside in a toaster oven that you don't care about.

Ditto!!! You didn't buy the wrong monitor you just bought a hella small monitor LOL, Grab the 27" my friend.

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to PHYLO in Why aren't there any 240Hz IPS monitors?
Definitely not a gimmick or placebo, that's just naive. 240hz is just unnecessary and has a far less noticeable from 144hz to 240hz than 60hz to 144hz. Only reason why someone might want a 240hz monitor is if they're a professional FPS player.

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to SolarNova in Is a VA panel good for gaming
Yes and no.
it depends on what specific VA panel monitor you get. Some a trash for gaming, other pretty good.
IMO out of the 3 LCD panel types VA is best. it has far better color and contrast vs TN, it doesn't 'glow' like IPS, and has the best black levels. Its also the only panel type used so far with a form of QD technology which produces the best image of any LCD.
That said, as with ALL LCD technologies, it has its major downsides.
Pixel response is the slowest, so you have to really search hard for those VA panel monitors that have pushed pixel response as fast as it can, otherwise your going to get significant ghositng/bluring. In this regard dont trust response time specs from the manufactures, they are always misleading and incorrect, make sure to find competent and thorough reviewers like rtings.com to find out the 'real' pixel response times.
It also has terrible viewing angles, so you need to make sure your viewing it head on or else you'll get color, contrast, and brightness shift when viewing even slightly of angle.
Finally, all LCD types in regards to monitors have bad uniformity, some monitor models have better uniformity than others, but it is very much down to the manufacturer to decide how much QA they put into that particular aspect. You wont alas, find any monitor with a 'good' uniformity, that im afraid is reserved for high end 55"+ TV panels only. ( The best score out of 10 for monitor uniformity ull find is around 7, most only hit around 5)

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to Chris V in 1080p @144 Hz or 1440p @60Hz?
personally Im using 1440p 144Hz. I appreciate both "advantages" over 1080p 60hz. If I had to choose, Id side with going for 144Hz. Thats much more noticeable than the resolution alone. However, it always depends on budget, workloads, and preferences in the end. high quality 1440p 144hz will probably stay in your room / office for longer, but its quite expensive tbh.

Fr4nt1s3k got a reaction from CaptainSalty in dead/stuck pixel gone?
It happens. Just use an LCD cleaning wipes and try putting a bit of pressure on the pixel.
Not too much to damage the other pixels

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to GOTSpectrum in dead/stuck pixel gone?
You can massage a dead pixel out sometimes, my guess is it's caused by a bad connection or something.

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to brob in My first "BigRig" with I9-9900K and a 2080ti.
Ignore the AMD fanboys. There are times where the 3900X would be a better choice, but at the moment it isn't in gaming. (Although that is likely going to change in the next few months as AMD and software developers refine and optimize their products.)
Everything will work together.
Unless you want to overclock, the motherboard is fine.
You may want to consider a 360 aio like the H150i Pro RGB.

Right click on desktop and go to NVIDIA control panel.
Under Display > Change resolution, you should be able to see the refresh rate. Change it there.
Hit save.
If you do not see 144hz, in 3. Apply the following settings. > mark "Use NVIDIA color settings.
In Output color format select YCbCr422. Hit Apply.
Now you should be able to see 144hz. Select and apply.
Also right click the desktop again and go to Display Settings. Turn on "Play HDR games and apps" to take advantage of HDR if you want.

Fr4nt1s3k got a reaction from chawbaka in My first "BigRig" with I9-9900K and a 2080ti.
A random guy on forum scared me and made me buy more expensive motherboard too
I bought MSI MPG 390 Gaming Pro Carbon Z390. It has 2 power connectors for the CPU and works just fine with my i7-9700K.
AMD's new CPUs are great, but for gaming, Intel is still better ... but anyway, who needs such powerful chips?
Both AMD and Intels top tier chips can do 240 fps+, it's the GPUs which bottleneck now.

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to SpookyCitrus in No signal on monitor
Plug the DP cable into the monitor and then into the GPU on the computer not the motherboard. Turn the monitor on, open the menu on the monitor make sure to select DP as your input, then turn on the PC.

The extra 4 pin is completely optional, it would only help those who do ridiculous overclocking, with ice or liquid nitrogen

Fr4nt1s3k reacted to alatron978 in 12 pin CPU header?
You just need two 4+4 connectors, though its probably not necessary for most use cases.
