Hey folks I could use a bit of help with a special project I've been tasked with. I'm decent with Excel but not good enough to write up a dev code to automate a process. I could macro it, but then I'd have to import it every time the report is run (weekly). I wrote a code that takes data from a large spreadsheet, copies it, and adds it to a new worksheet within the workbook. Here's my problem - I'm now having to remove columns within those copied rows. How would I manage this? I'm thinking I can add this code to the existing which processes the copy + open new sheet+paste. So basically I need to figure out how to copy multiple spread out columns in a worksheet and delete them in one swoop. I apologize if this may be a trivial answer / solution for some of y'all ... been a while since I've had to work this kind of stuff in spreadsheets. Thanks in advance! ~Gali

Hey folks! Been a while since I've needed some guidance on tech, so I came to the best of the best (that's y'all). I'm in the preliminary stages of building a home server and I want to dig ideas for an aesthetic. I'd like a wide variety of different designs, so go ahead and flood this post with anything and everything. Mini ITX or Micro ATX will "probably" be the board of choice, but that's up in the air. Honestly Madknight, it depends what the organization I'm to be a part of uses. Still an unknown for me, so I'm getting versed as fast as possible in a broad range. I've worked with SQL in the past (A long time ago - 7 years I think or something like that), so the basic commands and scripts are pretty easy to refresh. It's the differences in the languages for Database building that I'm concerned with picking up. I know that's really vague, but this early I'm just now picking up from a ball I dropped. Hey script junkies! I'm just getting started with learning some SQL and looking for a way to test what I've learned already. Are there any easy-to-access mediums to accomplish this? Been a while so I had to look up "ONT". Once I came across "NID" I knew what you were talking about. That would save me a bit of cash if they do install that to the house. I'm looking into it - hopefully they do. My house is small enough that a single AP is fine. If I expand then I may need more than one. As for cabling, I'm on cable right now, forgot to add that into the original post. Thanks Donut.

That's a good questions Speedbird. I'm not sure how they run their fiber - whether it's to the house or from the street. I'll look into it. Why wouldn't a modem/router combo be good. Are they not as efficient as separate units because they're doing both tasks?

Alright dudes and dudettes, so here's the deal. One of my next projects is to run Cat6a lines throughout my house. I'm still working with my ISPs provided modem, which will be switched out soon pending my choice in Modem/router combo. I'm throwing in a network switch beyond that to support all the hard lines going to guest rooms and the such. My question is, being that eventually I'll have fiber run in my neighborhood (possibly soon), I need a modem that will push 'dat Gb', so I've been looking at a couple different models of Netgear's Nighthawk series. Without pulling the trigger on any particular one, I wanted to ask you Networking bubbas what might be my best option. Budget is maxing at $300, which I'm guessing based on what I've been researching can nab just about anything. As well, from Linus' recent video on the ASUS XG-U2008 mini-switch, I'm looking into picking one of those up, or something with similar capabilities so I don't have to worry about future expansion. Photo and Video pros! I'm looking into installing outdoor motion security cameras onto my property. I've looked into a couple different brands - namely Nest (Since I already have a Nest home system) and Lorex. Thanks for the info Flamie. I need to check into their progress around Charlotte and the Southern states. The rumor mill was screaming that they halted progress due to extreme cost and I was like ... yea ... sure. Like Google has a problem paying out to have Fiber lines put in. But, I'm always open to the idea of difficulties in business management, so they may have hit a snag with city planning and zoning rights, etc.

I was asked about Coupling, specifically referencing data sharing and basic apps like chat, email, and SharePoints. "What's "coup"ing?" It was my assumption that he meant Coupling, It's in reference to data sharing and basic apps (chat, email, SharePoints). I'm with you and never heard of it before. I thumbed through a few of my IT books and couldn't find anything about it. Am I missing something here??

Hey Networking bubbas, Got a question from a friend yesterday in reference to "network coupling". I'm not entirely familiar with the protocol - Only took A+ and Security+ myself - and the only information I could dig up from the net was Dynamic Synchronization. Search result-wise there's a ton of data to sift through from basic electronic coupling to bioengineering and medical-based coupling ... it's a lot. Was hoping someone could point me in a more precise direction. Thanks! ~ Gali

That's quite the tin-foil idea. Entertaining the idea that it IS 'inside', if it ever came out that the company did this as a PR stunt, that would look extremely poor on the company. I doubt they would risk such self-defamation. The tech field has high stakes, and a lot of these companies, including Razer, are interested in the long run. To sabotage their own company for such a short-lived limelight is quite a ridiculous idea. Anything is possible, though, so we'll have to see.

We may not all like Razer as a company, but theft of even a proof of concept is wrong. Until we have some kind of news on who did it, or the hopefully possibility that is was simply misplaced (though highly doubtful at this point), then it's best to not even joke about Linus or Paul or Jason or any other known and good-natured tech reporter stealing it. Sure, Linus' sense of humor is omnipresent with his reviews and coverage of new tech, but these are serious allegations from Razer. Let's keep our guys (and gals) out of the path of the finger point.

Heyo Home Theater junkies! I'm looking at getting a new sound bar for my living room. Probably thinking of a budget between $100 and $200. Anything beyond that isn't worth it to me ... that's too 1337 for my tastes. Anyone have suggestions? Positive experiences with products?

It's always a possibility that K9s (and other domesticated pets) sense ailments in us - but don't put too much stock in this particular case. Feet are the first things canines smell with hoomans they don't know because they're the lowest point to the ground. Depending on the dog, they might smell you for months and beyond, just because it's a 'new' scent to their environment. Sure, you two can be bros, that doesn't mean the pooch won't smell you anyways. If you're concerned it is health-related, I would use an antifungal spray in your work shoes/boots anyways ... it's a good habit to get into to prevent trench foot (Kidding - I mean athlete's foot/ fungi).

So this is really off-topic, but I'd like input from my favorite forum. I'm looking to order a 10 x 10 x 6 kennel, but I can't find anything reasonable money-wise that has a high review score (e.g. 4/5 stars, etc.). I drove in a 4"x4"x6' posts lining a perimeter to be fenced, but when I saw it was going to cost me $700 for the 1x6s I almost had a stroke. The pair of dogs I'm rescuing soon are going to be part-inside, part outside dogs, so I don't really need anything too fancy, which is why I'm opting for a cheaper-end kennel until I can fence in the 2+ acres of my back yard (Probably won't be for a while ... yea). I've seen a few from Lowe's, Petsmart, and Amazon that would likely work, all around the $200-$300 range. Anyone purchase or own anything in that area? Or has anyone made something that worked for them? I'm good with any suggestion. Thanks folks! ~ Gali

I haven't been able to see anything within my price range with a dedicated GPU. ASUS does have my backing, though. I've use their MoBos for years. Almost bought one of their high-end monitors, but I went with the Acer Predator series.

I was looking at some of the Inspiron 15s. Not a bad choice, but I'd like more input before I make a decision. Specs look good and it's a pretty clean design. Decent I/O.

Mostly general use, though in the case she needs it I'd like to have a dedicated GPU. At least 8 hours battery life is ideal, though when it comes to notebooks the only time I have them off charger is when she'd be in class. Nothing crazy or fancy, which is why I'm capping it at $800. Anything more than that is outside of her needs.
