  1. Hello friends, I am looking for a kvm switch for my home office/gaming rig.

Been using two desks for two years now but wish to only use the space for one and at the same time get more use out of my extra monitors.

So I need a kvm switch where I can switch between my two computers. I use three 1440p 140hz monitors, 1mouse,1 keyboard and 1 headset.

Been looking around and the available products feel oddly specific for workbench environments so am hoping to get some suggestions for you guys.

  2. EDIT: Forgot to specify, I need brand names and/or name suggestions for products like this so I can continue my search).

Hello LTT, Ok so what I need assistance with is scaffolding/armature to setup multiple Displays and Studio Speakers (+peripherals).
I have a corner desk that is 2m x 2m and would like to be able to "wall mount" from the backside of the table, i.e. I need scaffolding.

Something like Linus used in his 16k Gaming video (below).

I haven't been able to locate anything like this for the consumer market though, and the things I have found would definitely not hold the weight it would need to.

I will be mounting 4x Displays (27" ~8-12kg a piece). (1 up top, 3 underneath). Above the left and right display I will place the two studio speakers (Yamaha HS7i).

The speakers will require either vibration dampening somehow or to be stable enough to not be an issue.

Something like this amazing illustration I made in paint.

    image.png.7b05cb9306aa028ada0a7cd78b9b7d69.png

    Budget (including currency): 10.000SEK (~€1000)

Country: I am located in Sweden, but can order from basically anywhere in the world (EU preferred due to taxes).

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

I use this workstation for gaming, software/game development(UE, VS2022) and music production (Reaper/Ableton Live).

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

    Speakers: Yamaha HS7i

Displays: 4x 27" (all displays use DP)

Computer: Fulltower (mounted to bottom of the desk) (need to buy a new graphics card at some point...)

  3. Hello LTT Forums,

Okay, for some reason it seems pretty difficult to find information about WAN to LAN throughput on routers. Either it is not published at the retailers or the product is marked for businesses in ways I don't know how to search for.

So, can anyone point at a couple of brands/models of routers that support WAN to LAN / LAN to WAN throughput of at least 2gbps? I have currently 1gbps connection at home, with my current RT-N66U I get about 700mbps which isn't too bad for such an old router.

I am however aware that I can squeeze out about 1.5 gbps when I connect my computer straight to the wall.

I would prefer if the router doesn't have an Access Point built in.

I plan on purchacing a switch with PoE and WiFi 6 AP seperately so don't need many ports on the router.

Hobbyist at networking but work as a software developer so some interest in the subject is here. Doesn't need to be user friendly.

Get a docking station that support two monitors and plug the third monitor into the HDMI of your laptop.

Example of a docking station: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Universal-Docking-Station-Ethernet/dp/B00ECDM78E

This specific model supports 1920x1200@60Hz or 2560x1440@50Hz, do check if that is enough. Comes with DVI and HDMI connector, but also a HDMI to DVI cable, meaning you only need three HDMI cables, to connect the displays to your laptop/docking station. A USB docking station has its own videocard, meaning it's not recommend to do heavy videocard work (like 3D modeling) on your monitors connected to a docking station.

Optionally go into Control Panel's energy settings, so you can close your laptop lid without it turning off

Thank you for the suggestions. That is exactly what I need. At the moment i've bene using windows remote desktop to get higher resolution. But damn it has some major shitty latency while typing and moving the cursor.

Will have a look at that and other products like it. thanks again.

  5. As for many of you guys I'm currently working from home. I've brought the laptop from work but would like to use my monitors from my gamingrig to do work on. I miss multiple monitors for work.

The laptop I have doesn't have USB-C or Thunderbolt though so I am a bit confused on what options I have.

    Laptop: HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab212no / 5CD6116BXD / P7T74EA#UUW

I have three HDMI monitors for my desktop, sadly required to work from my laptop due to the nature of content I work with. Would be much appreciated if anyone has suggestions for any way to connect at least 2 monitors to the laptop.

    Sincerely

    duxck

  6. I've really really liked the collaborations you've done with different YouTube creators over the years with bringing them the hardware they need to continue delivering great content.

I just watched the behind the scenes of Yes theory's latest documentary and it seems like they had some issues with their rendering of it and would love to see you guys hook them up.

This.  For 1440p 144, I'd go 2080 or Radeon VII.  If you were trying for 4K or 1440p UW 120+ maybe get the 2080Ti.

The price jump just doesn't justify the performance increase in 1440p 16:9 IMO.

Besides, a nice OC on the 7700K and you're rocking.

Does that also count if I run three 1440 144 monitors?  (I only game on the middle monitor).

    in cpu heavy games? yes

in balanced games at a higher resolution? not that much

The monitor I use right now is at 2560x1440 and 144hz. I also have two pretty shitty monitors which might make the experience less than ideal. Been planning on getting new new monitors now when i get a new graphics card. A 1080 ti probably serves me well enough. Sad part is that the 1080 ti isn't that much cheaper than the 2080 ti today.

Most requiring game I play is probably Ark, Dark and Light or Atlas. Otherwise i tend to play pretty well optimized games or really low games (such as Factorio or Banished).

  9. Hello,

I'm about to buy a new graphics card. I have been looking at the big boi Nvidia 2080 Ti, doubt I really need it but I have the luxury of affording it atm.

My question is, will I be able to utilize it with current hardware or should I go for something that is more suitable for what I currently have?

Last year I switched out everything except my graphics card.

    Current setup:

    Intel Core i7 7700K 4.2 GHz 8MB
MSI Z270A S02 INET GAMING EDITION
    be quiet! Pure Rock
    Samsung 960 EVO 500GB

XFX Radeon RX 480 8GB GTR Black Edition- PCI-Express 3.0, GDDR5, GPU: 1338 MHz , Backplate, Hard Swap
    Fractal Design Define C Svart
    Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000Mhz CL15 Vengeance
    Corsair RM650x 650W

So, is it really bad idea to buy a 2080ti for this? Any other suggestions if it is?

(I am aware that the 2080ti isn't best value, just want to make sure it isn't wasted).

    Thanks in advance.

Do you want to try disabling wireless before testing? Also with a different ethernet from RJ45 to router? Both routers should be able to handle almost a gig no problem unless there is a service causing the usage.

Well I don't mind replacing the RT-N66U, I can use that as an Access Point for wireless only. And trying to get max throughput out of it isn't really important either since it will cap out at 731mbps either way, which is less than I should be getting from my ISP.

I have tried to get more out of my current by disabling NAT, QoS and Wireless with no luck. Disabling QoS gave me about 50mbps more to play around with, disabling WiFi either 2.4ghz or 5ghz  or both had no noticable effect on the speed. This is still a far cry from the 731mbps that has been shown as reference https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/old-tools/charts/router/bar/74-wan-to-lan

My question really only is if the router I have been looking at (Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Security Gateway) is a good choice and if not perhaps you have suggestions for something else?

Did they upgrade your modem as well? You need Docsis 3.1 before youll get a gig.

I don't relaly know what docsis 3.1 is. What they did was to switch out all the hardware in the building. I don't have a modem just a RJ45 plug in the wall.

When I trun tests with my computer connected directly to that plug I get between 500mbps -> 1gbps.

Did a quick test now and it showed this:

    image.png.f14ea6786eb99083df0163211464375a.png

  12. So, I just got an upgrade from my ISP from 100mbps to 1000mbps up/down. I noticed that my current router is having issues with throughput WAN -> LAN ( Asus RT-N66U ) which as far as I can see should be able to handle about 730mbps WAN -> LAN, in my case the best I've managed to get out of it is about 200mbps.

So I was thinking, perhaps you guys have suggestions of some basic routers, like 1 WAN 4 LAN which can handle 1gbps throughput. I can still use my old router as an AP to get it wireless for cellphone use.

The one I've been looking at right now is the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Security Gateway ( https://www.ubnt.com/unifi-routing/usg/ ) which seems to be able to handle that with no problems.

Do you guys have any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

  13. Hey guys,

I recently got my new display, a Acer XF270HUA, which I use with my AMD RX 480.

In the AMD Radeon Settings program I have set AMD Freesync to on but when I hover it it claims: "Refresh rate reported by display: 40Hz to 60Hz".

The monitor is supposed to be able to handle Freesync at 144Hz through DP (I made sure it is DP 1.2).

Tried to install the display drivers (though only drivers are for windows 8 64-bit on the acer website). I wasn't allowed to install these on Windows 10 since they aren't signed.

Anyone have any suggestions on where I should start searching for a solution to this?

    Thanks in advance!

I'd suggest going to https://pricespy.co.uk/ or the Swedish equivalent (I'm guessing you're Swedish since the link you posted has SE in it) https://www.prisjakt.nu/.

Then look at the monitor you bought, look at its height and try to find a pivoting screen that is as wide as that screen is tall, so for example if your screen is 300mm high your pivoted screen should be 300mm wide.

This is although a slightly rough measurement so you'll have to do some mathematics to remove the stand and such from the equation, as well as getting a screen with the right bezel thickness.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah that is what I did.

Didn't find anything fitting as of yet.

Atm i'll just stick with my old monitors. Hopefully it wont affect the performance when I game too much :)

  15. Hello,

I've been trying to figure out resolutions and dimensions/sizes on which secondary monitors I should get.

I just bought a new monitor and none of my old ones support pivoting (or really any kind of adjustments).

What I wanted to do is to have my 27" in the middle and the other two monitors pivoted.

Do you guys have any suggestions on monitors I should look at or perhaps how I figure out dimensions for ti? a

    The monitor I bought: https://www.acer.com/ac/sv/SE/content/model/UM.HX0EE.A01

Also, suggestions on a mount for three monitors is highly appreciated.

I'd wait for Coffee Lake. If you're not in need of upgrading at this very moment, wait til August 21st to see what Intel has in store before deciding.

Coffee Lake looks interesting, but not much official from Intel about it yet. And since they haven't talked about it much yet, when can we expect to see this released? Also, what I found was that some leak said that the i5 8600k will have 6 cores, 6 threads while the i7 8700k will have 6cores/12 threads (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-intel-coffee-lake-the-next-big-thing-for-cpu-technology) which is still less than the current AMD Ryzen 1700x

  17. Hey Guys,

I am about to buy a new PC and I've been looking at which CPU I should buy. I've been pretty stuck between the Ryzen 1700x and the i7 7700k now.

As it is today, with the games we have today, the i7 is the better purchase since it's single core processing is a lot better (as I understand it from reading reviews).

My question then, since I don't upgrade very often. (Current build is from 2011: i5 2500k, 8GB Ram, Radeon 6950). What would be the wisest option for me to buy.

I assume that the 1700x will get better with age as more game titles will fully utilize all of its cores compared to the i7.

    Thanks in advance

The x16 slots on board use CPU lanes, while the NVME drives should use the Z270 chipset's lanes, so there shoudn't be bandwidth issues from that perspective.

if you want two M.2 drives, you cannot use the Z270-A Pro since it only has one M.2 slot. The other boards however will run two drives without issue, however some SATA ports will be disabled. Both boards also support SLI and Crossfire, so either the Pro Carbon or the Strix will work fine.

On the topic of RAM, 2x16GB will be two sticks. This will allow for further expansion in the future without having to ditch your current kit, while 4x8GB will not.

Thanks for that information. And yeah will probably go for the 2x16 at first. Seems like the I will go for the Asus

I would suggest Asus because you get the aura headers. Get a couple of RGB strips and you get a light show in your case.

I have a closed case without a window so RGB would only entertain my fans :)

what about the MSI Z270 Gaming M7

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130969&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,

it has automatic overclocking if you aren't experience in computers and overclocking

That one would work but it is a lot more expensive than the Asus and the MSI Pro Carbon.

  19. I'm thinking of upgrading my PC (Almost buy a new complete one) will just keep the case and the GPU.

These are the parts that I plan on buying:
CPU: Intel Core i7 7700K 4,2GHz Socket 1151 Box without Cooler
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 PC25600/3200MHz CL16 2x8GB (Been looking at the 2x16 or 4x8 as well, don't really know the difference between those options).
    M.2: Samsung 960 EVO Series MZ-V6E250BW 250GB
    SSD: Samsung 850 EVO Series MZ-75E500B 500GB
CPU Cooler: Be Quiet! Pure Rock
    PSU: EVGA 650 GQ 650W

I have a XFX Radeon RX 480 8GB GTR Black Edition since before which I will stick with for now.
What I want to make sure is that I can either buy a second RX 480 and run in crossfire or switch it for a 1080ti.

I also wish to run my OS and regular work applications from the Samsung 960 NVMe drive. I would like to be able to upgrade with a secondary M.2 NVMe 500GB stick at a later time.
So my questions. Which motherboard would be suitable for this build? I don't understand how the PCIe lanes work and if I get the second NVMe how might that affect my GPU?

When looking at motherboards these three popped out for me (Though I don't really understand what differentiate them):
    Asus ROG Strix Z270F Gaming
    MSI Z270-A Pro
    MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon

    Thanks a lot in advance.
