  1. Good day mates, I am in the process of spec'ing out a workstation and am stuck on a number of issues concerning the CPU. Should I go with the current generation I7 6700K on the Z170 chipset, or wait until Kaby Lake drops? Is there any large difference between the two (that we know of, that is)? Most of what I will be working on is GPU intensive, with minimal CPU usage. Cheers, Jake
  2. It's not those technologies I'm concerned with, it's the CPU chipset. If I get the X99 chipset, will Intel turn around and say "The X99 was a fun experiment, but we are going forward with the Z170 only" Is that likely? No, probably not. Stranger things have happened though.
  3. I was leaning that way as well. I loathe the term "future-proof", but is the future the X99 chipset, or Z170?
  4. Nope, this is for my personal use at home. We have blades with Tesla GPU's at the lab for the intense stuff.
  5. Depends on the algo, but most can/do. For the part, it's a very GPU intensive affair, specifically taking advantage of Cuda cores on Nvidia GPUs.
  6. I have not up until just now. Speaking of, is there anything I should wait for (I.E cpu chipsets)?
  7. I'm in the process of spec'ing out a mid-range workstation for the use of developing and training ANNs. I've fairly certain I have every other component nailed down sans the CPU. Tentative specs are as follows: CPU: Intel Core i7-6800K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler: CRYORIG A80 128.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: Asus X99-A II ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Storage: Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition Video Card (2-Way SLI) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition Video Card (2-Way SLI) Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000G2 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX For CPU's, I'm looking at the I7-6800K (as seen above), I7-6700K, or Xeon-E3 1275 V5. Each runs on a different chipset (X99, Z170, C236 respectively) so any choice seems awfully final as opposed to other components. If anybody could offer me their opinions on the above options, or different CPUs, or any other suggestions on the build, I would be very grateful. Cheers, Jake
