    If they REALLY want to do a throwback, do what I did back in high-school and skin it.

    Ha, Ironic I have a Dell Optiplex 960 (Business PC as well) and trying to do the same thing with it. Except i'm turning it into a small server for a challenge.

    I would say go for the GTX 1050/1050 TI but... I'm not sure if airflow to the card would be a problem

    Alright, so here's the final conclusion;

    The power button on the front of the case had gone bad in some fashion (probably the contacts sticking or something stupid along those lines) and that was the source of my issues here. That all being said, I would like to thank those that stepped in to offer their advice; Rex5150 , I_IHaveNoLife_l , imPixelTV , and finally, to the man of the hour, zanthros . Thanks for the talk, feedback, suggestions and ultimately, the patience for dealing with this.

    Can't say that I have ever seen an intermittent failure of a button but that doesn't mean that it can't happen.

    Personally I would remove the board from the case and set it up for bench testing. I would set it up on a box to pick it up off of the work surface and use only the mouse, keyboard and the power supply. Put all of the memory in it and then get ready for testing.

    You will need to download HIREN'S boot disc. DOWNLOAD HERE!
    HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PUT IT ON A USB THUMB DRIVE: DOWNLOAD HERE!
    Or if you like you can just run it off of a CD/DVD but you will need to plug in the CD/DVD drive.

    On the boot menu once you boot to the program you will see a selection of various items to boot to. Select: DOS Programs and then select: Testing tools and finally select: MEMTest86+.
    This will test you memory for any abnormalities. I do not think that the memory is the problem though as it will only produce a shutdown, not a power up. Usually when the memory goes or starts to go you start getting Blue screens and lock ups but it can progress to a shut down with no blue screen. I CANNOT make the system turn on after it has been sitting there for hours on end.
    Now I have seen windows update (especially in Win 7) turn the system on at weird times looking for updates but that can be fixed by selecting the " check for windows update but let me decide when to install them" in the windows update setting dialogue.
    I will PM you other info..............

    OK leave the panel disconnected and just wait....... if it does not Ghost itself off and on........ problem solved......... I would say that the "reset" button on the panel is bad.You can test this by plugging the reset wires from the panel back on to the posts that they are supposed to go on (connect ONLY the reset button) and it should (if the switch is defective) reboot or Ghost itself.
