  1. Thank you for the reply. According to linux it is fuseblk, but this seems to be the layer to communicate with NTFS (?) Like I said, I am still learning this system. So as a result on your input: I turned off steam play for other games, and phasmophobia worked. Wreckfest now gives the error: Steam must be running to play this game (SteamAPI_Init() failed) Grip still does not want to load, same for CP2077. With the Anti Cheat software on Insurgency it takes a long time to initialize. For games like Trine still the wrong resolution is diplayed. Floating point, starts, but then crashes. With Death Stranding, it says it needs Windows 10 ... (maybe the installs are borked because I started with Windows). But also that the Steam client might be in compatibility mode and I should restart. Can that be a problem ? I've also installed vulkan drivers (no vkcube on fedora) Wine is installed. I've installed Pop Os also, but there only floating point works, but I also did not really put the effort in.
  2. Hey, so currently I have a dual boot system with Win11 and Fedora. I wanted to learn a new OS and Fedora was quite appealing for me, I also have a laptop with Pop_os installed, but I do not use it that often. Maybe the questions below are amateurish so please don't be to harsh. So layout of the drives is the main 2 TB SSD is partitioned for Windows (1.2TB) and Linux (800 GB). Then there are 3 500GB SSDs and 1 1 TB SSD (from older PC's), those are used to install games on. CPU = AMD Ryzen GPU = AMD Radeon I have installed steam on both OSes and assigned the drives for steam libraries in both instances. So now to the problems: (All games I tried are gold or better according to ProtonDB, not all games in my library are) - Between OS switching steam wants to update some games (update the whole game), and others just work on both, is there a way to prevent this from happening? - Some games just do not want to start up. If I press play in Steam, it tries to launch the game and after a few seconds the button jumps back to play again. I started steam via terminal and it just spit out: (for just one game, other games have different numbers) ThreadGetProcessExitCode: no such process 17698 ThreadGetProcessExitCode: no such process 17697 ThreadGetProcessExitCode: no such process 17696 ThreadGetProcessExitCode: no such process 17533 ThreadGetProcessExitCode: no such process 17531 So is there a way to start up the games? --> maybe I have forgotten something. Steam play is active and proton is tried at 7.0.3 and experimental. I have tried google, but there are not that many solutions present, or I am incapable of describing the problem right. Here I did not yet put to much effort in: - Also not all games recognize the correct resolution of my screen and are capped at full hd (I have 3440x1440) Would it be easier to create a dual boot system with Pop_os? Maybe such issues are not present in a different Distro? Hopefully someone can help. Greeting Corn
  3. Thanks for your reply. So my initial feeling is the right one. I will have to take a look if it arrives and if needed, order a different one, that would not be the problem.
  4. Hello, Since I am already thinking about an upgrade for longer time I just keep my eyes open, since currently the market goes nuts I do not have much hope. I use my system for gaming and studying. Games are the likes of Cyberpunk, Battlefield, Metro, Horizon Zero Dawn, ... and more. I have to use Matlab and Simulink for University and also 3D CAD (CATIA, Inventor) and Simulations (ANSYS) Currently my i5-6600k (@4.3 GHz), 16 GB RAM and a GTX1070 still does it, but I am not completly statisfied anymore, this will become a kind of media center and PC for GF. It is an ITX system and I would like to go for ATX. Display is a 1440P Monitor, possible widescreen coming, also 1440P. Living in Europe. With that said I saw an advertisment about a per build system. In my eyes the value is quite good. The system in question has following specifications: Intel® Core™ i7-10700 Prozessor Windows 10 Home NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3070 GIGABYTE™ B460M AORUS PRO 1 TB PCIe SSD 32 GB Kingston® HyperX® Fury RGB DDR4 RAM with 2.933 MHz Since it is a pre build no information about case or power supply. The price would be €1500,- or if bought at the manufacturer €2000,- So for the lower price I thought it would be a compleling offer. Then I searched some more and, since I am more drawn toward Ryzen, found following systems: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5800X Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 4 RAM: G.Skill Ripsaw V 16 GB 3200 MHz SSD: 1TB With Different GPUs one is with a EVGA GeForce 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING Where the Mainboard is an: ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING and PSU: be quiet! STRAIGHT POWER 11 CM 750W With a noname case, but OK for me. for €2150,- The other one GPU: ASUS Radeon RX 6800 Mainboard: MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS PSU: Sharkoon WPM Gold ZERO 750W for €2200,- or 30€ more for a Fractal Design case, otherwise a NoName case but I would take it. But I think I saw that a new PSU would be needed. Also I would upgrade the RAM. Which one out of these 3 Systems would buy me the best price to performance, and can be used for the next 4 to 5 years, with some upgrading if the Market is not crazy. 1. the i7-10700 and RTX3070 2. Ryzen 5800x with RTX 3070 3. Ryzen 5800x with RX 6800 Or should I just wait until the Summer?
  5. Hello, Sorry if I also ask an Question in this topic. I also want to know which language is good to learn. I want to learn C in the long run, but since I have to deal with structred text on my work (reading an finding failures) I wanted to know which middle language will come close to both of these so that I can ease into C. I bought an Raspberry for the purpose of learning programming because I like it and I want to use the GPIO pins and do some GUI stuff. Is it possible to use some similar language as Strucutred Text on the Raspberry (such as Pascal) or will Python serve me also? Or will it be better to just start with C? Thank you :-)
  6. That wont happen ;-) Thanks for the replies, will consider everything.
  7. Thanks all for the Replies. Ok so in case I would consider a 1700 :-) And of course I wanna keep my system ;-) It would be a system for my Girlfriend. But PSU and GPU are just laying around now. On a side note. Would a Watercooling make sense (AIO 240mm) to upgrade from a Darkrock 3 ? Then I would be able to overclock my i5 more :-) Again thank you
  8. Hello all, quick question: Ryzen 1800X for 480€ or Intel i7-5930k for 560€ with both I would have to buy a new Motherboard, and RAM. I would like to do a bit more overclocking but in the beginning it is not a necessety, because I still have an "older" system to try it. GPU I already have an GTX1070 PSU is a 650W PSU and Harddisks are also not a Problem Will use it for Gaming, Photoshop/Lightroom and some light video editing. I want to get the most futureproof system (GPU upgrades are OK but CPU should last) right now I have a year old i5-6600K system, or is this idea total bullocks, and just wait another 3 years for newer generations? (would like to do it now because I dont wanna buy an entire System then) Thank you and kind regards :-D
  9. Sorry for the Revive, but slight change of plans, I got the Acer Monitor with Today's deals fairly cheap and got it right away Yes I know I'm quite undecided when it comes to such investments So which components should I change to Max out the modern Titles ? The limit would be 1000€ still, i would like an Mini ITX case because it will be (in the fore see able future) my HTPC, so case is something that is not final. The original build: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/DJvsKZ but with an 1060 ? or something like this: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/D6rbkT ? I also could use my Corsair RS650x PSU because I can get it out of my current PC, eventually also the Cooler (Noctua NH-U9B SE2 ) if the Case would support it (but that depends) What would be the better bang for the buck? Kind regards And thanks for the help all the way
  10. I didn't expect to ;-) but would a 2560x1440 be a better option, at the moment I am still at 1680x1050? I expect my monitor to last longer than my PC so I am willing to spend a little bit more on that Doesn't look to bad :-D, at the moment I tstill have a R9 270x but in BF4 my CPU struggles (100% all the time). Are the other components alright so far ?
  11. Isn't this Montitor 1440p ? Yes I know it won't be the best experience but the Monitor will last probably longer than the PC
  12. So I thougt about this PC with this Monitor: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/DJvsKZ The Monitor will not be bought right now,, for the rest, would this be a good PC (in the means of decent bang for the buck) ? GTX1060 or RX 480? I am from Austria The PC will mostly be used to Game (BF4 / BF1 / and some RTS games at the moment CoH but also AotS looks good) For internet and some other stuff I have a secondary PC with normal HDD, but maybe a 2,5" HDD wouldn't hurt, For the PC I wanted not to spend more then 700€ but I have a feeling that this slightly more future proof. Kind Regards
  13. Sorry for reusing this topic, but it still fits in here. So I went with the reccomedation of aisle9 and got a new PSU (Corsair RM650x, yeah I know it's a bit overkill, but since the original PSU was also 600W I thougt I would need it) and a Noctua CPU cooler (only 92mm because I feared a bigger one would not fit). So installed everything an all went fine, have tried a little overclock (went to 2,8Ghz with my Q6600) and runs smootly on 2,7Ghz now. Then I treid playing BF4 again and after 30 mins the Screen went black, and I had to resart my pc again, so the same issue as before, even with the new PSU. (adition: so played BF4 for 45 mins now with 2.7Ghz clockspeed and nothing happend (sound was going away though)) So my next consideration was that my GPU is faulty (Sapphire R9 270x) or this GPU just doesn't fit in my System -> Not anymore. So I stress tested my CPU and GPU at the same time with furark and Prime95 for about 40 mins, (with 2,8GHz on the CPU) and watched the Temps of my CPU with Core temp and MSI Afterburner, after those 40 mins they where at 71°C and I stopped it (I red in some forums that the max temp for Q6600 G0 is 71°C) but the system ran normally until this time. Can it still be the GPU? Otherwise I would rebuild my current pc to where it was (and use it as Internet /Music /record PC) and build a new one around the R9 270X (for the mean time). So what I would have in the Current PC (after rebuilding): Q6600 with the Noctua cooler Radeon HD6950 (instead of the R9 270x) 8GB of DDR2 Ram 240GB SSD (Samsung) and 1 TB HDD 600W PSU from Cooler Master (would need to look for the exact typ but i ran fine with the HD6950) Parts I have for use then: Corsair RM650x (still overkill) R9 270x So my questions are: - Any other suggestions for the current rig? otherwise - Should I build a PC like this with below 300€ and use it (in a year or so) as steam maschine (and 4k Bluray player) http://pcpartpicker.com/list/FcdZcc Where I would buy it it would be near 300€ so a little bit less ar on PCpartpicker Which I would use for BF4 and BF1 for now, don't have much time for anything other Or should it be better to go wtih a slightly better GPU? Maybe I would get some Outlet pieces from here: https://www.alternate.de/Outlet/Hardware/Komponenten Thanks for the Help so far, I really appreciated it. PS: some funny thing, the Cinebenchscore at 2,7Ghz is at 257cb and at 2,8Ghz it's at around 200, how can it be that the faster timing performes worse PPS: Forgot to mention, I will buy a High end pc in a year from now, so i can use this PSU in that build and buy a lower Wattage PSU then for the suggested build in here (so that the cost of the system looks better )
  14. No The PSU and the Mainboard are also changed, because of a lightning strike, but where not upgraded. The PSU is a 600W Cooler Master. This my most favourable option for now, I will start with the Power supply and a better cooler for the CPU to overclock it a litte, because this would be the Boxed cooler i think (small and flat), and some new Vents to get the system silent again. If that is not the trigger for the crash I still can change some other components. My only worry is that the CPU will be the bottleneck in my system, even with the R9 270x Yes thats what I tought :-/ Thats why I wanted to ask you guys ;-) I always wanna get some more opinions in case I buy something like this. Yes that should be possible, and in case the before mentioned steps work, it will be a little bit longer ;-)
  15. Well I want to save up money, but I can spend this amount right away, can't see me burning a lot of money in the near future :-/ A little wait wouldn't hurt but it would be a shame if I can't use my GPU, because it's just a dust magnet right now. Yes, I meant getting a 4K monitor and a System that can max out on settings, so a high end gaming pc ;-)
