Adblocker Plus still allows you to block everything regardless, they just tried promoting a "responsible ad'ing"  
 
But yeah great tip for OP, every one should have ads blocked one way or another, furthermore there's plenty of TamperMonkey scripts that prevents pages from blocking you if have it running, like the Anti-Adblock Killer, all stuff worth googling about.

Back into a few years ago, when many popular distros were small enough to fit a CD. Nowadays things won't work anymore. I actually stopped using CDs ages ago and I suggest that you should do the same things. Giveaway those spare discs or sell them for a good price. Don't regret obsolete things bro.

Most viruses are written with a .exe executable file to be run by the unsuspecting user.
 
Linux does not use the .exe format to execute programs, therefore it's practically immune to that kind of malware.
 
However malware designed to run on Linux will definitely infect a Linux system if the user is not aware of it.

Could be malware. Run a full scan with malwarebytes.
