Inspirational reacted to Kilrah in RAM confusion, help!
It does say it's running at 3200 so all seems good. The 2133 is probably a hardcoded string.

Regarding Crucials Upgrade your System Website it should be able to use NVME... Crucial sells NVME 2280 SSDs for that specific board. *shrugs*

Inspirational reacted to WhitetailAni in M.2 Confusion, Help!
SATA Express was an attempted revision to SATA III that never took off.
I'm not sure exactly what it does, so I'd say install the M.2 SATA drive and if it doesn't show up flip the setting from SATA Express to M.2,

Inspirational reacted to aDoomGuy in M.2 Confusion, Help!
Well I don't know if this goes for your mobo but mine have the limitation where SATA 5+6 is disabled if M.2_1 is occupied. However my BIOS allows me to enable those ports if I take the M.2 down from PCIe 4x to 2x. So half the bandwith. Like yours mine is also Asus so check your BIOS you may have that setting too if you want all those ports.

Inspirational reacted to WhitetailAni in M.2 Confusion, Help!
Installing an M.2 SATA SSD in that slot will disable SATA ports 5 and 6, yes.
You cannot use an M.2 NVMe SSD in there, it will not work.

If you have used the PC while logged into your Microsoft account, the key for the configuration is stored and connected to the account - if you reinstall Windows, log in with the same account on the same machine the activation process does its magic and activates Windows.
If you don't know how to find the drivers, try something like Driver Booster from IObit, it works quite well in most cases.
Firmware to an SSD is like bios to a motherboard, it tells the flash controller what to do and how to do it. Firmware updates fix bugs and/or improve performance.

Inspirational got a reaction from stconquest in This monster is alive! (almost)
It turns out that I got a faulty GPU. I sent it back and waited for the 3 weeks process of it being delivered back to EVGA and then back to my store.
Apparently the fans were not working as they were supposed to.
Anyway, now that the issue was fixed the PC is running beautifully. I know this is reviving a dead post, however, I really wanted to thank you for your help
Have a great day!

The case I chose is really nice in my opinion. There's a company called Tecware in my region selling the exact same case but in blue, red and white variants.

The GPU depends more on resolution of screen but for 60Hz 1080p something like 1060 6GB/480GB or used older gen equivelant should work.
CPU should be one that does fullfill the minimum specs mentioned.
However currently it seems that for multiplayer there is a huge strain on CPU. This might be fixed by new drivers that got released yesterday(not sure, I don't play myself) or be solved by patch since it's only a problem in multiplayer where even the current very best CPU seem to run into trouble. Somehting that could also improve is playing on DX11 mode instead of 12 but not sure if that does affect CPU usage.
Even used I doubt you can manage this for your mentioned budget, so seems your friend has to invest more.

Inspirational reacted to Freezanator in Build me a PC that can run BF1
Not at all. A budget of at least $950 AUD will meet the requirements for games such as BF1.

get this if he absolutely needs to get new for some reason, but i can't vouch for how well it'll run it.

Maybe. The CPU and GPU are going to be the ones that eat the most of your money, so getting them used or on sale is important to keep below $600. You can save quite a bit of money if you simply upgrade an older desktop. You may only need to upgrade the PSU and add a new GPU, maybe installing some RAM, which should be well below your budget.

its an i5, 8gb ram, and a gtx 1060 6gb. I'd try to get a new case if possible, and a new PSU. also 1tb WD Blue. might want to throw in an SSD

nope. go find some used parts instead.

Do you want to be able to run it or play it well?
If you're in Australia, I suppose $1000 should cover it. This is new parts. Used parts can get you much better price to performance.

The case is one of the ugliest non-OEM cases I have ever seen in my entire life, but it's also one of the cheapest ones. I highly recommend getting a different one, as it may bottleneck whatever room you put it in. And no, I'm not misusing the term "bottleneck". The quality of your room will actually drop.
These same parts cost $657 in the US.

Inspirational got a reaction from stconquest in This monster is alive! (almost)
Oh wow it has been over a week!
So I finally got all the parts and put the PC together. Everything is fine and dandy (had some troubles with Windows 10 as it kept giving an error message [something like: failed to reach boot drive] which was quickly fixed with a reinstall of Windows).
However, I came across another problem. It turns out that the Wifi Adapter I got (TP-Link TPL-WDN4800) isn't providing a good enough connection.
I have tested it on Rocket League and League of Legends.
Rocket League just shows the ping to be 30-35. Which is fine, however, it is false.
League of Legends shows the actual ping which would inconsistently drop and rise up to 300.
In Rocket League, my vehicle is constantly being "adjusted" into the right position.
As for League of Legends, it is just straight out lag (delay to actions).
My Desktop is about 7.5 metres away from the Wifi Router (I can't have a direct cable connection ).
Any chance you can suggest me a Wifi Adapter that would help me? I can push up to $100 AUD.
I am currently considering this: TP-Link Archer T9E.

I'll probably just call them up 2mro and see if they can directly help. I'll also check out the forums later 2night.
I hope so hahaha
I may have seen a video where someone mentioned that the fans don't turn on until the GPU is hot. But I can't fully recall it... We'll find out soon enough with the monitoring
EDIT: Idle Temp is 30-32C.

Surface area of the metal and design features like added heat pipes are more important than CFMs, at a certain level of airflow. The H5 is just a better chunk of metal all around.
@Inspirational Maybe you are right to look at the 212:
-
Inspirational reacted to stconquest in This monster is alive! (almost)
iGPU - Integrated Graphics Processing Unit: i-Core processors come equipped with a GPU embedded into the CPU die. Actually, with current CPUs, half of the die is GPU... seriously.
dGPU - Discrete Graphics Processing Unit: The GTX 1070 is a dGPU.
Your old monitor will have to use an adapter, DVI-to-VGA. Your new monitor will probably have both DVI and HDMI. It might even have DP(Display Port).
For a 4K monitor, you will either use the available HDMI2, Dual-link DVI or DP. These are located on the GPU.
You won't need to use the iGPU. Everything will run fine off of the GTX 1070.

The H5s are the best of that list. The Ultimate is best, and the Universal a close second and it is white on top. the Universal has a thinner fan which means it pushes a bit less air.
@Inspirational The 212X is a good cooler, it will be loud though. I have the 212 EVO and I replaced the fan after a week. That is more cost if the noise bothers you. I paid $35 for the 212, then $13 for a better fan.
