  1. I use to have this one ASUS Laptop that has a weird issue that I am curious about. For anyone wondering about the model it is "ASUS X556UAK". Now, I highlight ASUS because brands tend to create special features for laptops, or use the same audio drivers or all the ASUS Software that comes along by default. Or "Splendid Utility", because ASUS Laptop monitors by default emit a lot of blue light compared to other monitors or phone monitors. I encountered an issue on that laptop once, that I am curious to find the actual detailed problem and fix of. Incase you don't like reading, here is a summarized version with not enough informations: Not hardware or temperature limit related. But entire device would lag for a second (all games get FPS drops, Google Chrome lags, all UI lags), while fan speed would go down during that moment. Then fan speed go up again. Would get fixed by re-installing Intel Graphic Driver or BIOS Updates. Can re-occur by Blue Screen (irrelevant to issue) or restarts by Windows Updates. Can be fixed with the same methods again. Can not be fixed if the problem changed ("anomalies"). I can not figure out the exact location of the problem. I assume Regedit. I do not know why re-installing Graphic Driver or BIOS Updates even fixed the issue. Does it do something in Regedit? Does Windows adapt and initialize power related stuff from Regedit which will control this behaviour? With "anomalies" I mean issues by the same category that are different from the "global lag for a few seconds". And often with that I mean, issues that don't get easily fixed by re-installing Graphic Driver and BIOS Updates. What does re-installing graphic driver, then restart. And or also re-doing BIOS Update. What does that even trigger that fixes the "global lag for a few seconds"? Figuring that out, can maybe help everyone to find a fix for all issues related to this category. Issue is most likely highly related to all sorts of settings related to power saving or power. Just everything related to power especially when defined in Regedit. Anomaly I don't know a fix of: Regardless of graphic setting set in the game or how less graphic performance is required. It can turn 60 FPS into something low, it stutters and lags temporarily. This is not normal. But I can't find the cause. It gotta be something related to power, be it in Regedit. TO UNDERSTAND THAT, I need answers regarding why BIOS Update and etc. even fixes the main issue, whenever it gets triggered. Not sure why it gets triggered. If you know all the detailed steps that occur when "Restart" gets caused like as if you would know its "function()" then you maybe can help telling what actually happens? There's no third party app causing issues. Important specification notes: It has no NVIDIA or any special graphic card It only uses intel integrated graphics, Intel HD Graphics 620 It has a Battery and there's a sticker that says "Extended Battery Lifespan", "2.5x" CPU not much important, even if it comes with integrated graphics. But it's Intel Core i7-7500U for this example. The problem explained: This can be a general issue, amongst all ASUS Notebooks that were not made for gaming and use Intel and a Battery. This means should someone find this thread through Google, that I hope that we can find a solution so that anyone can figure the issue out and solve it. It is a bit complicated to explain. The issue can appear in many different ways. The first time I noticed it was a big noticeable difference on how the entire laptop was behaving. I don't remember when it happend, but I think a Blue Screen that is unrelated to the issue, caused it. It might shutdown the system and then messed up settings at a bad time? But whenever a blue screen occurs it returns to the UEFI BIOS. Another thing I remember which could have triggered those issues. One time I forgot to turn the power socket on, which means the battery wasn't charging while using the laptop. I noticed that when Windows 10 gave me a popup notification, saying that my Battery would be in a "critical power mode" or something. So it was trying to save power. And the way it saves power, is the thing to look at. It saves power by doing various of things, but I don't know all of them. But you could imagine on what it can do, like reduce GPU and etc. "critical power mode" is something that is actually configurable in the Advanced Power Settings. What the problem in its major form causes: I could specify the problems into different levels. But the main problem caused by the issue. Is the following The entire Laptop will lag for a few seconds The fan speed (that you can hear) will go down while it occurs This lag is not for a single application only, but everything, including explorer.exe, google chrome, and I think the Cursor too. That's what the problem causes. This also means while you have a game open, the game will stutter and the frame rates will drop. However, once this "phase" ends, it all goes up again. How I tried troubleshooting the problem, until fixing it: I've managed to fix the major issue and return the laptop to how it was working before, without any other issues. (That means there can still be other issues that can occur) What I do not know, is why the issue was fixed. I need help figuring that out. Removing certain Windows Updates (don't believe those caused any issues, maybe the way it restarted could of) I've re-installed the Chipset Driver from ASUS Support Downloads link for the involved model. I've re-installed the Intel Graphic Driver from ASUS Support Downloads link for the involved model. Tested around with "Balanced" and "High performance" (none made a difference) and were irrelevant to the issue. Tested around with the power mode. I've went into the Advanced Power Settings, to fool the Laptop to think that 100% should trigger critical power mode. Then I've set it back to whatever it was previously set to. Reset BIOS I've re-installed BIOS using the BIOS Update download from ASUS Support Downloads link for the involved model. One of those steps I mentioned, could have fixed the problem. The problem was gone. All games would constantly have their normal FPS and it would never stutter and there was no lag anymore. This fix would last for months. There were things that can re-trigger the exact same issue again. Mostly a Blue Screen. (Don't worry about Blue Screen though, not point of this thread) Whenever the issue re-triggered, I could easily fix it again. Fixes that makes the problem disappear: Re-installing the Intel Graphic Driver Reseting BIOS to default and then BIOS Update it again Normal restart incase BIOS Update didn't fix the issue. This successfully would fix the issue. Where later I figured out that updating the BIOS again, would be sufficient enough. Any followed normal restarts would not re-trigger the issue. If a Blue Screen always caused the issue, is unknown. There was one time were I would encounter "anomalies" of the issue. One time I used one of those fixes to fix the issue. However, something remained. A game application would lag and only the game application. The thing that happend to the game application, was that it was loading assets and froze for a few seconds (caused by game itself). While that happend the fan speed went down (because that was the only application running too) and the frame rates dropped temporarily. All other applications were unaffected by the lag, I think at least. But I fixed that issue with the other steps again. But then I found this other "anomaly" that I have not figured out how to fix. All games or maybe "Graphic taking applications" would temporarily lag, but stuff like explorer.exe will not lag. I tried checking if any application was influenced by "Power throttling" but in the Task-Manager it was deactivated. And I've only tried the steps that I noted down to fix it, incase it would re-trigger. The major issue explained problem is fixed but it doesn't fix that issue. I do not know why the things I tried fixed the major issue in the first place. And I do not know why it re-occured on special shutdowns or restarts. Figuring this out, can maybe help to find the solution to the "anomaly" issue. Hints: Before I even used this laptop. It seemed to have the Power Mode set to "Balanced" by default. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-the-power-mode-for-your-windows-pc-c2aff038-22c9-f46d-5ca0-78696fdf2de8 This is what I mean by Power Mode. It's this window that shows up when you click on the Battery Icon. I can't tell however, if it ever made a change to the system, or if it was ignored for some reason. Sometimes, after some restart updates by Windows. The Power settings was set to "High performance" while I haven't even done anything. (Maybe changed something else?) This is something that I call "hint" a hint on what could lead to identifying the problem or to find the fix. (As example, Regedit) Is unrelated to the problem: It's not a hardware issue. There are no settings in the BIOS that are related to the "power" Not a temperature limit related problem (doesn't even reach that level) How to control the behaviour completly? (How to fix it directly?) Re-installing Intel Graphics driver, BIOS Update usually fixed the major issue without any traces. But why? Since I ever noticed about the FPS drops that occur only in games, which I couldn't fix with these methods, I don't know where exactly to look at to fix the issue. I've searched around the internet, while I found TTS YouTube videos that mentioned "Power Throttling" and came with Regedit properties. I started thinking that this could be solved in Regedit. I don't know if "Power Throttling" is the issue. But if this is Power Throttling https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-the-power-mode-for-your-windows-pc-c2aff038-22c9-f46d-5ca0-78696fdf2de8 You need to know that when there were no issues at all, that it was always on Balanced mode, and that I never found a difference between any of it. The only time I noticed a difference was in Minecraft. However, whatever is controlling how much performance an app should get, seems to cause the FPS drops on games, while the laptop could theoretically avoid it. It's not even a temperature issue or a graphic issue. It's like you run a game that you have on 60 FPS all the times, but the issue will make it drop for a few seconds to a very low amount, temporarily. This thing seems to ignore "High performance" and "Balanced". But I believe that the "thing" has to look at something. And I believe it could be something inside of Regedit. But I do not know. So I am trying to ask here, if anyone knows or is familiar with this issue. Or knows about Power and settings related to it in Regedit. Like, I don't know how to explain. Just note that BIOS Update and Intel Graphic re-installs fixed the issues. And whenever I start up the laptop from a restart, you can notice whetever the issue is going to appear again or not, just listening by the fan speed. If the fan speed works a lot before the login screen. Then I would know that the issue would not occur (except for that one anomaly). But the BIOS Update, doesn't always fix the issues, nor do I know why. I don't know the exact details of what happens when a Laptop reboots. But if one part has to do with Regedit to initialize power configurations on how everything should perform. Then to fix the issue, the answer could be in Regedit somewhere. Now, what doesn't make sense is why the issue gets fixed sometimes and sometimes not. So there has to be something that is getting modified in the Regedit settings by the system? I don't really know. That's what I am looking to figure out.
  2. When I used all threads at csgo the mouse lagged too, maybe because I used all threads for something. Maybe it could be a cind of issue like this one.
  3. Yeah, I heared one of them. When I listen to music I don't hear it. If I disable the cooling thing, it cooles down the laptop but the fan still inside the laptop is still doing something.
  4. Those cooling things.... If I activate them they rotate but whats about that one in my laptop? Will it cool faster? Cause.... maybe I made it wrong but it was still rotating?
  5. I think this HP laptop is new but maybe if I read another HP review from this year that is like 1 month old, will that make any differences? I mean that Acer laptop I have right now. (It has.... position issues. If I put it straight on the flat sofa some keys aren't working, same for mic.) Doesn't make noises at all, I don't know when the fan startes to rotate. If I play csgo will it be really loud?
  6. I am going to buy a laptop really soon (maybe tomorrow ) http://www.interdiscount.ch/idshop/product/notebooks/934124_ER-8839884898305/hp-notebook-17.3-pavilion-17-ab077nz/detail.jsf http://media.flixcar.com/delivery/minisite/show/2288/s4/1115852?pn=product/notebooks/934124_ER-8839884898305/hp-notebook-17.3-pavilion-17-ab077nz/detail.jsf But I just found out that there are also fans that makes noises sometimes when they are active. How do I know how loud a fan is without hearing it? How can I avoid those fan noises?

  8. Interdiscount doesn't mention the "Graphic card" it just says "Graphic: High"
  9. Well, I know I saw it I looked into it but the problem is I don't find the 17.3" version and yeah. What I found was this: http://www.conrad.ch/ce/de/product/2508567?insert=UP&WT.mc_id=ade_3_shopping_b2c_2508567&WT.srch=1&gclid=Cj0KEQjwvIO_BRDt27qG3YX0w4wBEiQAsGu3eUH-83bBuOBlUiKtkrCpLMyHTlMF0EXxg6enouzM8K0aAqyo8P8HAQ At Interdiscount I found one with 15.6" but well I tried to find 17.3"
  10. I still need help, I just asked you because you maybe come online earlier to help me.
  11.
