Pretzel4000 reacted to AlTech in NordVPN hacked - More like FlawedVPN
I think the reactions especially by the OP are quite overblown. The title is more than just a little sensationalist.

It feels like people are out for blood. NordVPN is a good offering and is far more private and secure than PIA or any UK or US based service ever will be.

The Five Eyes countries are out to get your data so that they can control you. If you choose to use a VPN from a Five Eyes country then you will end up with an organisation like the NSA having your data. PIA says they don't collect logs and I'm calling BS on it right now. PIA is a UK based company and so they are forced to keep data they collect for some period of time because of "Know Your Customer". ISPs here collect your data and must keep it for a good long while before they are allowed to delete it.

The reality is that most VPN services require some degree of trust in them but audits by 3rd parties help. In that respect, NordVPN has had an audit and they were found not to collect logs and so I believe and trust them. I would always pick a VPN from outside the FIve Eyes countries.

Disclaimer: I am a paying customer of NordVPN and I am also in a position to financially benefit from the success of NordVPN.

I seriously question their (Intel) intelligence. The marketing department should know these will be picked apart under a microscope.

All this does at best is make them look incompetent , and at worst outright lying.

I hope someone gets fired over this.

Pretzel4000 reacted to Imbellis in Intel 9th Gen CPU Tests: Flaws in Testing Metheds
Edit: Oof, I'm unsure if this thread should fall under duplicate; However, "Intel 9th Gen Paid Benchmarks" focuses more on the results while this focuses on the flawed testing methodologies.

Gamer's Nexus, as well as many others, have recently posted a video harshly critiquing the testing methodology due to variance and poorly thought out procedures in their testing methodology from Principled Technologies:
In addition, others such as those from Forbes, PCGamesN, HawdwareUnboxed, TechSpot, and many others commented on their thoughts regarding the flaws:
Some of the factors that varied were:
CPU coolers (Noctua U14S vs AMD's stock wraith cooler. Varying motherboards brands RAM speeds and RAM timings Using median results instead of getting an average Using FRAPS instead of the in-game frame counter Using GPU tests instead of CPU Use of flawed benchmarks (FFXV) Edit: In addition:
Possible variation fan speeds Omitting or forgetting to include testing constraints and other general info Possible variation of benchmark settings for GTA5
Overall, I think it is safe to say that intel's branding of this data, without any of their own confirmation, is extremely gullible or they are attempting to manipulate consumers (to a further degree than before) to buy their CPUs.
Oh, and there's the fact that Principled Technologies also disclaims any warranty regarding their tests so they're not held liable for these awful tests. Honestly, I think I'll be upgrading to a AMD CPU now instead of Intel.

Also, you should just ignore this thing below... the thing they included at the end of their test documentation.

Since there's a rumor going with Nvidia releasing their new GTX1180 at Gamescom, now, there've been a new leak of the GTX1180 PCB from Chiphell (spotted by Tweaktown)

The new SLI finger should be a key interest here, especially since Asus and Acer are pushing their 4K 144Hz G-sync panels and 65" 120 big display. Does it mean we gonna see much better SLI scaling from now on, or even a single 1180 will be able to push 60+ FPS at 4K no problemo?

Food for thoughts. Actually, the new GPU could be named 2080 since Nvidia is celebrating at Gamescom on 20/8. Hmmm... *tin foil hat*

Hell yeah. I also live in a tax free state.

It's *great* people who do something I don't like are taxed! Hurt the hell out of those people.. right? - What goes around comes around man when the tax man comes for you who's going to help you?

I generally don't have too bad of an issue with State taxes as opposed to federal. States actually need to keep a balanced budget and are more responsible with the money (and they actually provide all the things people like, schools, hospitals, police, roads etc) but you should never cheer at a tax.

Facebook recently promised to mend their ways, so let's hope that goes through. Still i think it's important to see how far they were planing to go, even because the CEO claimed it was never their intention to go that far.
The New York times went through their patents and it shows a lot of creepy plans:

Pretzel4000 reacted to LightPathVertex in YouTube blocks Blender videos worldwide until they agree to enable ads
A few days ago, all videos on the Blender Foundation YouTube channel were blocked without any explanation.

Eventually, several news sites like Tom's Hardware, Fortune and Daily Dot reported on the issue:

Following that, YouTube replied that this is a technical issue and will be fixed soon.

However, now it turns out that the block appears to be intentional and YouTube demands ads to be enabled on all videos, as reported on the Blender blog.

The Blender Foundation channel isn't the only channel to be affected, another notable example is the MIT OpenCourseWare channel.

Personally, I think this is an extremely worrying development for educational videos on YouTube in general. The two channels decided to not enable monetization, and now YouTube apparently went for some intimidation to bring them in line. I'm glad that Blender decided to publish the sent contract instead of just giving in, hopefully the videos will be able to stay ad-free.
