Just a reminder that open source does not automatically mean free.  Some of you really need to read your licenses once in a while.

Because it's Microsoft's update.  These are not niche software apps.  Lots of people use them.  Should car manufacturers only recall vehicles with problems that have Pioneer stereos?

This.  Document everything.  No matter how simple it is, no matter how if you already know how to do it.  At some point you're going to need that documentation, so you don't skip that one step that could wipe/melt down/whatever something.  Studies have shown that writing something down helps you remember it in the future.

Anyone notice how Linus put two 'Extreme Intel Systems' videos up immediately after the negative reviews of Ryzen came out? He did this so that Intel could take advantage of the millions of unsure, shaky, potential buyers of Ryzen chips (and also to bolster the snuggly relationship etc).

PS: Ryzen destroys Intel. And will do so even more soon.

    Transparency: I'm an AMD fanboi.

Of course, now there's around 17-45 new people they keep talking about but never introduce, so who knows.

The problem I have with the thumbnails is that they look like they're for some new Youtube channel that's trying to get views.  Like if I started a Youtube channel - I would do thumbnails like these to get attention and hopefully get views.  This is not what I expect from a tech company that's been doing this for years and has an established audience that likes and respects them

Put another way, if Linus were still affiliated with NCIX, how would they respond to thumbnails like this?  There is such a thing as brand identity.

Ringthane got a reaction from MorganO in Best way to come out to my parents?
I had a gay friend in high school whose parents disowned her when she told them.  But at least she was free to be who she wanted to be.  I may not be gay myself, but I'm older, and one thing in life I've found to be true is that people are going to be against you no matter what you do, and nothing you can do will change that.  Some people don't like me because I'm overweight.  Some people don't like me because I speak my mind.  Some people don't like me because (in their words) "I'm too smart and made them feel stupid", even though I never did such a thing (at least not that I know of, and if I did so, it was completely unintentional).

My point is, people are going to dislike you no matter who or what you are.  The thing about that, though, is that their opinion of you is totally out of your control.  You can't change it, you can't snap your fingers and make them like you.  All you can do is just be who you are.

I can honestly say that if I had a gay son or daughter, it wouldn't matter in the slightest.  But I'm not super-religious like your parents may be.  Also remember they may seem more strict and uptight to you because you're their child, when in reality, they are much more open and progressive than you think.  Whatever happens, you can either be honest with them and deal with the reaction, or continue to keep it inside and deal with the stress and frustration that brings.  It's your choice.  Whatever happens, just be happy.  It may take a while before you can do that, but just enjoy your life.  You'e 18.  Don't let stuff like this get you now, or when you're my age, you'll have a lot more regrets than anyone should have to deal with.

And that's all I've got.  Do with it what you will.

Here's something else I didn't see anyone mention: you want a house?  To buy a house?  Get ready for the maintenance costs.  Roof leaking?  That's a few grand if they can't patch it.  Sewer backing up?  Oh, boy.  Furnace goes out?  Fun times.

Yes, those are all huge expenses that don't happen all the time.  But they could and do happen.  I've had to deal with all of them in the time I've lived in the house I'm in now.  And that's just that stuff.  What happens when the fridge dies, or the pipes burst, or the electric overloads?  Foundation issues?  Windows break?  Yeah, insurance might cover some of it, but not all of it.

You need to know what you're getting into before you even think about buying a house.  No landlord's going to pay to fix these things for you.

And let's not even get started on property taxes.

ECC stands for Error-Correcting Code.  It's a special type of memory typically used in servers.  It has extra chips on the board to check for errors.

Agreed.  I'm 43 and I'm just finishing up a degree.  That's a long way from being one of those old people you see that can hardly see, hear, or move, and makes everyone around them cringe every time they get near a car.

You could try picking up another router, setting it up with a different IP range, and putting her on that.  That way, not only do you keep her off the router you use, but you can isolate whether it's your original router or one of her devices that's doing it.
