  1. Since mid December on a fresh install of Windows 11 I have had random complete lock up of my PC with the only thing in event log being CertificateServicesClient reporting SCEP certificate enrollment failed. Followed by another error exactly the same. At the same time windows itself becomes unresponsive and never recovers until I press the reset button. I have tried a complete reinstall multiple times over the last year I have owned the system. I have ran memtest and it passed. I have stress tested the system and it behaves normally. I am not running an OC, I have XMP disabled because It seems like a good idea to verify that itself is not an issue. I am running: -AMD Ryzen 5950x CPU -Asus x570 Gaming E motherboard. Link to ram: https://www.newegg.ca/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232867?Item=N82E16820232867 -CPU cooler is Kraken x73 AIO. Link to info: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/zotac-rtx-3080-trinity-oc-lhr.b9032 I am running latest amd chipset drivers, latest windows 11 updates, updated drivers for all devices. My system becomes unstable randomly at least once or more times every day! If I run windows 10 I have no instability issues. I would like to run windows 11 and it has features that are incredibly useful for developing software. I am studying computer science in a free online program called OSSU based on GitHub and discord. I am atm going to go back to windows 10 as I can still do the same things there without the extra stuff that windows 11 offers. The main things I like that windows 11 offers are full support for Linux GUI apps, and the android subsystem for windows. There are many more but those are super handy to use. Unlike a lot of people I like how windows 11 looks and feels. But for me on this one desktop it appears I have a ton of things to overcome. Is the system too old to realiably run windows 11? Do I need newer hardware to have proper support for windows 11? I know a lot of people have complained across many platforms about the 5000 series having a ton of issues with windows 11 but I have seen it fixed and then on next windows update regression to same problem. I have seen one solution to this problem possibly being buying a third party TPM module for my specific motherboard. I am not sure if that will work but I will be trying it. I have gone back and forth every other month from windows 10 to 11 both as upgrade or fresh install and never had windows 11 work reliably. Has anyone else had similar issues? Also another note I have current non beta bios. I tried the beta bios but it did not fix the issue. In fact it appears to have made things worse. So I moved back to most recent stable channel bios. One note: Zero issues with windows 10. I do want to run windows 11. I like it a lot. Does anyone have any knowledge of why it appears to so unstable compared to windows 10?
  2. I have upgraded my 5950x system from windows 10 to 11 multiple times. Always have issues for me. First was TPM 2.0 stuttering(fixed now) and now I have noticeable performance issues in windows where mouse just randomly freezes for a 3 to 5 seconds every other day. I have had issues with UI features like task manager behavior. I have had issues with windows explorer behaving oddly. Like unzip folder using 7-zip and it shows up at bottom of list regardless of files/folder structure. Or just does not appear until you change directories and then back to see listing. There are tons of little issues that do not are deal breakers. Just so many and so frequent that I find it hard to not go back to windows 10. The main issue I have with it is the fps loss in some games. I upgraded this time because I needed linux subsystem with working GUI to work and windows 10 is super annoying to have linux working with a GUI. It was for testing linux app that I did not want to use in vmware. I am also hopelessly optimistic that MS might get windows 11 to a usable working state.
  3. I was super stoked to upgrade my GPU earlier this year when RTX cards became available locally in quantity. I got hosed. But I was at the time just happy to upgrade my old 1080ti which was failing and I could not game with it at all. System would turn off within 30 seconds. Anyways I decided to dump a bunch of older pc's on FB marketplace. I sold a 9900k with 32GB of ram to some guy who was a business owner on Vancouver Island. At first I was thinking this was super sketchy. But when I met him on FB messenger and talked to him we ended up agreeing to a sale. He would send a courier to pick it up, pay half up front, and then when he received and verified it was working pay the other half. After receiving system it would not post. So I started with my standard checklist of things that could be wrong with a system that had been shipped. It ended up he had decided to check the speed and amount of ram by removing it and taking pictures, and telling his staff to go look it up. Well after getting ram reseated it would still not turn on or post. I then asked him if he done anything else. He said yeah he pulled the fan and heatsink off to check what make and model the cpu is. I asked him if he plugged it back in. Guess what the answer that was. It did not fit so he had to use force to make it fit. Well, I explained the problem there and linked him to motherboard manufacturer and what he had done. He bent the pins on mobo, and it was essentially fubar. 20 min later I received my money anyways as he paid me. But seriously? If I sell another system I am going to include a bunch of youtube links in emails telling people how to check this sort of thing in bios FFS. He was not mad at me, and later admitted he was worried I was going to scam him. I told him if he was worried he could have taken pc to just about any shop and most would tell him immediately how to identify parts without disassembling the system. I posted a video he could watch. He watched it and asked if it was possible to fake the info on bios. I thought about trying to explain how EUFI firmware works and go into how that was unlikely for all sorts of reasons, but just told him that was very unlikely.
  4. I am a self taught techie. I help all of my friends/family/neighbors with most tech issues. I end up using google for a lost stuff. I got sick of it and told my friend I was going to teach his kids how to do all of this stuff. So deciding this I went and showed a 14 year old kid how to troubleshoot stuff for most devices using google. The kid acts like she is not tech savvy. But hey she had zero questions, and was able to help her family with most issues. Does not like tech but I am not getting phone calls, outside of, can u please fix the broken hdmi port on the kids xbox. The kid can now do most issues the family has and makes money on the side doing google searches and problem solving.
  5. I just wish Samsung would let me choose to display am/pm. Not having a regular schedule for wake/sleep means I am often having to actually google what time is it because the freaking clock in the middle of winter is essentially useless when it is dark out from 4pm to 8am. yes I can set it to 24 hour time which I have ended up doing but those little quality of life stuff with devices gets annoying! I used to be able to tell how long the device has been running on battery vs last time connected to charger. Again having weird sleep schedules would let me figure out roughly how long I have awake by checking when I last plugged phone in.
  6. Here is a crazy one for those of us that believe a device should last at least a few years. Currently I am typing on some random 120 dollar razer keyboard with RGB. It now has faded text on a bunch of keys. Yes I am a gamer and the keys are the ones you expect for Wow at least. Looking to my left I have a another very expensive logitech keyboard that is a paperweight. My current keyboard is going to be replaced by another none membrane keyboard soon. But if it fails I have a 15 year old 10 dollar keyboard I bought at bestbuy because it was literally the cheapest thing they sold. It still works great, it has no faded keys. It is my backup keyboard for when my expensive gamer keyboards break. Just think of it, a 10 dollar keyboard last 15+ years and still works perfectly. But pay 10 to 20 times that cost and it is lucky to last 2 or more years.
  7. I am on a an Asus X570 Gaming E motherboard running a 5950x and since updating to latest firmware from June 2022 was able to update to Windows 11 with fTPM turned on with zero issues. I had severe stutter randomly before this update when ever I updated or turned TPM 2.0 on. I have had zero issues after the firmware UEFI update from Asus.
  8. The switch speed is limited to 1Gb's. My whole network is limited. I believe the cable I used is either cat5e or cat6 and is about 3 feet in length. The link speed is currently 1Gb for any device. I have connected a cable rated for 1Gb to switch and then to 2.5Gb port. It is not connected at 2.5Gb. It is connected at 1Gb. I am mostly looking for trouble shooting steps to figure out if it is windows device driver issue? Or is it a compatibility issue with my switch? Is it the cable? Does it need higher rating to connect even at 1Gb? Etc. Just double checked the label on the cable. Its cat 6.
  9. I am using Ubiquiti USG router. I have a Unifi Flex mini switch connected to that. PC is connected to switch. I have a Unifi Cloud Key Gen2 managing the network. The USG router is connected to a bluecurve modem in bridge mode. Here is link to router model. https://ca.store.ui.com/products/unifi-security-gateway?_pos=2&_sid=6fc2b557b&_ss=r
  10. Hello everyone! I have had ongoing issues with my 2.5Gb lan port on my Asus X570 Gaming E motherboard. The standard 1GB port works fine and I have zero issues with it. I am using windows 10. It is fully patched and updated. When I try to download a torrent of Ubuntu the 2.5GB when connected to the 2.5GB port I lose all internet connectivity on the pc. Does not affect any other network device. Windows event viewer shows no errors. Rebooting the PC is the current fix. Windows shows no errors in event viewer. The internet just stops working. I was considering upgrading to Shaw 1.5Gb internet and until I solve this issue there is not point in doing that. I am using Unifi USG and have two flex mini switches. I am trying to find a way to troubleshoot this issue. Its connected at 1GB to a Unifi flex mini switch. It would be irrelevant if I was not considering upgrading to 1.5Gb internet. And yes I would be upgrading my networking equipment when I choose to get 1.5Gb internet from Shaw. Just waiting on the price to be a little more reasonable.
  11. I found a solution that worked! I started by factory resetting all the Unifi equipment I own. I forgot both the switch mini's, the two AP's, and factory reset the cloud key gen2. After doing that and logging in I chose to set it up as a new device. I then turned the bluecurve modem back into normal mode. Next I switched it back to bridge mode. I then went through setting up IPv6 on the USG. It just worked! So I think turning the bridge mode off and then back on was the fix.
  12. Yes I added DNS and that did not affect the problem. I lose DHCP completely when it goes down. TY for suggestion though.
  13. Good morning from Canada! I'm having issues with my internet connection and was hoping for some advice from all of you at Linus Tech Tips forums. I have internet with Shaw Cable in Canada. My internet connection is 1GB down and 100Mb up. I have my Bluecurve modem (model is Arris TG3482ER3) in bridge mode. Directly connected to it is a Unifi USG-3P router running firmware 2.4.8. From their it connects directly to a USW-FLEX-Mini smart switch. From their I have multiple branching devices. Directly connected to first switch is my PC which uses a ethernet cable to plug into the switch. Also on same switch is a second identical switch. On the first switch the second device a UCK-G2-Plus (That is a unifi cloud key gen2) which controls the network and sets up the devices and updates firmware etc. The router has no custom configuration and has dhcp for both WAN and LAN on default. As configured IPV6 is disabled as it requires custom configuration and I had reset router and not done anything beyond set up wifi. I had a sweet custom configuration with separate VLANS for IOT devices etc but turned that all off for ease of testing out this problem. Randomly the router loses connection to the internet and shows as having no DHCP lease. The internet goes down for about 4 to 5 min at a time. This happens randomly and can happen multiple times a day then not happen for weeks. Its an intermittent problem. The wan interface shows 0.0.0.0 and says no connectivity. After talking to Shaw they indicated the modem was working and had a good signal. They said there was nothing wrong. The first thing they told me to do was reboot the modem. I had tried that but went through the procedure again with them on the phone. They said the logs they had access to indicated the modem had been running fine for months. I have called back complaining many times with them now telling me to disable bridge mode and use the modem as my primary internet to try and troubleshoot the issue. I have replaced the ethernet cables with new ones bought recently as a further troubleshooting method. I have tried running Ping plotter which did catch the device when internet stopped working. It showed my ping to google as being about 1500ms and the connection stops somewhere in a google data center and never gets to google.com. At this time the router shows 0.0.0.0 and no IP and no DNS. I assume I lose the lease and it takes modem 5 minutes or so to give me a new one? I have tried doing hard reset on modem and all connected network devices and updating the firmware on devices. I never lose local access to router its only the WAN that goes down. The light for ethernet port on modem and router are lit up just fine so they are talking to each other but no joy! I can ping the router but have no access to modem while it is in bridge mode. The suggestion to just stop using my third party hardware and my problems will go away is sort of really making me mad. I don't believe the hardware I have is faulty. I could be wrong. I do not have another router to check if issues persists. I originally bought the unifi hardware because the wifi with shaw was crappy and did not even go halfway down my driveway. Now it goes down the road. Also I could not set the router to use google or cloudflare DNS and it was locked to ISP DNS. I'm pretty sure if I disable bridge mode and just use the ISP equipment all of my problems will go away. But I will lose the ability to control DNS unless i configure it device by device. Also I can't set up VLANS or do a bunch of other things I want to do. Any suggestions to intermittent issues with DHCP lease being lost and taking 5 min to get one back for my router would be appreciated. Upon further inspection I lose my DHCP lease every 1 hour and 10 min. It takes about 5 minutes for the lease to be given to my router. While that is happening the internet is of course down hard.
  14. Started watching todays video about what looked like a laptop. Stopped watching after about a min or so. Two embedded ads and then a third. Sorry Just not going to watch that sort of thing with that many ads spaced about 10 seconds apart. Good luck with that. I will always just walk away from that sort of content! I will look for a review or write up on any product that is presented that way somewhere else. I am not interested in watching that video at all and I am leery of what sort of shenanigans your company will get up to next!
  15. Signed up for YouTube premium. Love the Ad free experience. Can't imagine life with ads. I have Ublock Origin for PC but YouTube app for Android and IO's does not have ad blocker. Yes there are workarounds like playing it in an ad free browser etc. But I came across a feature so annoying that I am going to cancel the subscription. I have found when using pc to watch YouTube with multiple browser tabs with YouTube I end up with a pop up on lower right asking me if I want to continue watching video's. This happens on every YouTube page when I pause a video in another tab. Only affects pc, and it happens in any browser where I am signed into YouTube premium. Signing into an account without premium fixes issue. If I cancel YouTube premium and wait for remaining time to expire it will be fixed. It is so annoying that I have been unable to turn this off! Just a warning for everyone that might want to sign up and find this sort of behavior a deal breaker.
  16. Anyone having issues with YouTube having lag for a second or two randomly a couple times a day when you enable TPM 2.0? I have had it with my new Ryzen 5950x with a Asus x570 gaming E. If I disable TPM it goes away. On latest bios too. Same issue with Asus Z390 gaming E too. 9900k on that system. Both behave normally with TPM 2.0 off but with it on I get lag on YouTube and robotic voice for about a second or two randomly throughout the day watching YouTube.
  17. THIS IS NOT AD ADVERTISMENT! PLEASE READ COMPLETELY BEFORE REPLYING. I have wanted to buy a RTX3080 and for the last year I had planned and then been disappointed at the current market. I was seeing red and very frustrated. I recently went through my closet and realized I had a couple gpu's collecting dust. With that anger and frustration in mind I thought maybe I could ask the community to help me find a new home for some old GPU's. I have two older RX 570 4GB cards that were used for mining and have mining bios on them. On a lark I looked on eBay and saw some crazy prices. I looked on FB marketplace and saw more crazy prices for just about everything! I am looking to get rid of these two card at a reasonable price. I am not looking to sell to crypto miners etc. They work fine but again they have mining bios on them and I do not have the original bios. They are used and I purchased them used a couple years ago. I used them for about 3 months of mining and then well you know the market crashed and i repurposed a third GPU for an old x99 system I have been using for something else. So to reiterate I have two rx570 4GB cards that i bought used and have no use for anymore. They work and are in good condition but have modified bios on them. If you have UEFI turned on they will not work unless u apply a patch to drivers. So if anyone has any suggestions on what I should do I would appreciate it. I would prefer to find original bios and get that fixed so I can test them properly and make sure they are working good. I am not looking to make a ton of money I just don't want to sell them cheap and then have some guy/gal laugh as they leave and go flip them for 500 to 800 dollars. I would prefer to sell them to someone that cannot afford the overpriced and exploitive behavior in the market currently. I would like suggested prices and/or best method of selling them so that they can go to a good home and not just be thrown on eBay as the buyer laughs saying oh man look at that idiot selling a GPU cheap. And yes i actually want to sell them for what they are worth. Not MSRP! Not inflated value! The value if the market were fair. And I have no idea what that value could be. This is not an advertisement. I am looking for advice on what value I should sell at and where. I would like be reasonable but with markets the way they are I am concerned that anyone i sell to might just go flip them to highest bidder. I would prefer to help out a gamer that can't buy at MSRP and provide a reasonable video card that can hold them over till the market settles.
  18. Good evening. I was watching the WAN show and i noticed you talking about amazon affiliate links and stuff. I click on those links all the time wanting to buy stuff but they all go straight to amazon.com and i shop almost exclusively on amazon.ca because the US version of site with regards to most tech products does not ship to Canada. I almost always have to launch amazon.ca and then search for product as the links you guys provide never go to a site i can use. I would love to support you guys by using those links but i don't have a US address. This has been an issue for me for many years and i imagine you are aware of it or amazon is.
  19. chrome is default web browser in settings and i have open in external web browser turned on. This issue is caused by instant article redirect inside facebook. I have not figured out how to disable instant articles the default answer is its a feature and you cannot disable it.
  20. Ok i have an issue with my Samsung Galaxy A50. I have android 9 and facebook is opening some links in spotify. I see a news article and when i click on it expecting a web page instead i get the spotify app opening to its default home page in android. I mean the main page when u open app. I have facebook set to open links in external browser set, I have app integrations with games and stuff turned off. What is super annoying is the only way i have currently of stopping this is uninstalling spotify. I have not figured out how to stop this behavior by facebook. Oh and i have instant apps turned off too. I just want links to open in external browser for webpages and not randomly redirect to apps like spotify!
  21. i clicked on link and no affiliate discount appeared that i am aware of I got it all set up and its working but i have no idea about billing other than signing up and giving my info they have not billed me or dinged my credit card at all lol. Nice easy vpn setup and i like the price of 3.50 usd that is a nice price for 500GB of data.
  22. My concern was that i was paying to convert Canadian funds to a foreign currency for a Canadian company. I thought that was odd. As to hurting or damaging the company it never was a factor. I have no resources and/or plans to do anything beyond moan about it on the forum here and see what reply i get from Linus Media/Floatplane club employees. As of now i am done moaning and complaining. I fully admit i have no clue as to why or how things are run in your business or any other. I am completely ignorant of the factors and decisions made in matters like this.
  23. Thank your for reply. I will drop this topic now. I was mad about it. Not enough to do anything about it mind you. Just wanted to rant about something that puzzled me. I really wish and hope in the future that you can offer floatplane club in Canadian dollars. I understand it may be an issue in logistics and you are not set up and/or too small a company to offer payment in local currency. I will re-sub to floatplane when it becomes available in local currency. I really do appreciate the responses. Have a good week.
  24. Well thank your for your replies everyone. My concern now is if it is legal for them to behave this way. I always thought Canadian businesses had to accept CAD as a payment option. The fact that a Canadian media company is catering to foreigners and offering the only payment option in another currency is kind of a slap in the face to Canadians. I will check with google then maybe contact the better business bureau to see if there is any legal action that can be taken to either make them take Canadian currency or shut them down and/or filing suit in a Canadian court.
  25. Is Linus Media and/or Floatplane Club a Canadian or American company? I was a member of floatplane club for months and was very unhappy as i was being charged in USD and not CAD! When i signed up i was a little shocked to realize i was being charged in a foreign currency for what I assumed was a local business. I mean they are located in the lower mainland which is the same are i am in. I know their audience is mostly american i assumed because they mention american prices when doing reviews and talking about products. But i always thought of them as Canadian. But when months went by and i was having to shell out for floatplane in USD i thought. WTF is going on? Never though i would see the day when a Canadian company started charging for services in a foreign currency. Really surprised this continues still. I have since unsubscribed to floatplane as i find it a little misleading when i see the advertised price and nowhere do i see it identified as being in USD. So i decided that was annoying. But adding the fact i pay a fee again to my bank/credit card company to pay in a foreign currency to a business that is less than 20 miles away just gets my mad on! Would love to be part of floatplane and do miss being a part of it and seeing things early and stuff like the office videos but the deceptive behavior of charging fees in a foreign company by a local company is just too much for me. I wonder if it is even legal to have a Canadian company only have an option for a foreign currency as a payment method? I mean is it not required that they offer a comparable rate in Canadian dollars not American? I apologize if Floatplane is in fact an American company and i am mistaken in thinking a local business is Canadian.
