  1. Hi All, I've been away from PC building for a little while now but as my Motherboard has broken after 8 long years I've decided to look into upgrading my system. In summary, I want to replace the motherboard and CPU but due to the current GPU shortage I want to keep my current Graphics Card (R9 270X.... I know, Bottleneck much) and upgrade this in the future when GPU pricing returns to normal. List of current components for clarity: CPU: FX8350 Black Edition Mobo: M5A99FX Pro R2.0 (Broken) GPU: Gigabyte R9 270X OC PSU: Corsair CS750M RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x4gb Storage: 1TB WD Blue 120GB Samsung SSD (Boot Drive) 250GB Samsung SSD Monitor: ASUS Pro Art something.... (Good colour and depth but not a gaming monitor and only 60 Hz) I would be looking to upgrade to a Ryzen CPU and corresponding motherboard. The components I have specifically looked at are Ryzen 5 5600X and Gigabyte B550 AORUS Pro AC. My main question is: Will my current Graphics Card work with these new components? I know that its a severe bottleneck but there are certainly plans to upgrade the GPU when prices are more normal. Secondary Question: Would it be worth upgrading the storage and RAM as well? DDR4 and M.2 have entered the main stream since first building my PC and I think I'd like to try and take advantage of this. If this seems like a good idea, are there any specific products that would work best with the system or that you recommend? Any other suggestions are warmly welcomed!! (P.S I have checked the Motherboard with another CPU and the same "no Post and Red CPU light" error occurs.) Budget (including currency): £400-£700 For new components (CPU Mobo RAM Storage) Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Dota, CSGO, Total War, Valheim. General Gaming and Engineering Software. Other details: Looking to buy as soon as possible.
  2. Hey all, Haven't had my little windows 10 icon in the taskbar. I looked online and have looked at various forums on this. I have checked for all updates and installed all of them, looked at all the icons that can be in the taskbar in control panel and there are no more there. I have made sure that i fit the system requirements on my os drive: 20gb free space on it. Please help as I would like to get Windows 10. And don't turn this into a flame war against windows 10 or windows 8. Cheers all, Brit.
  3. I dont do anything that would make that a problem and i dont think my neighbours are tech savy enough to do that.
  4. Hey all, I am looking to move my PC into another room but it would mean that it isn't router for Ethernet and i was wondering what kind of speeds i can expect from a Power line adapter. Do people think this a good solution to the problem and if not what would be a good solution. Could anyone recommend a good make/brand of adapters that i could use (for under £40, $60, if possible.
  5. Thanks man, This seems to have worked now i have changed some of chromes settings so that all downloads go straight to my hdd. Thanks again. Does moving Roaming work or does it mess up the paths of programs?
  6. Hey all, My Boot drive, ssd, is becoming full from games etc. I don't want it to become full; I would like to move Users (Basically move over my my documents, roaming, downloads etc) to my new drive so that it doesn't wear down my number of writes to the ssd or take up to space. I have tried the "Send to" but it doesn't work it just copies the file over. Please Help..... Thnx in advance, Brit,
  7. Even if its a different company that makes the ram. Im changing my corsair vengeance pro 8gb for hyperx fury 16gb. Is it really that simple.....?
  8. Hey all, Just wondering how easy is it to replace RAM in my PC, i built my pc so I know my way around the system etc. My question is how difficult is it for the motherboard to detect and utilize it. Do i need to change anything in the bios, download any software?? Will it balls up any of my stuff? Is it easy?
  9. Sooooo..... It would only affect me if im gaming at higher than 1920x1080?? right? I would be ok to run games at high to ultra at 1080p?
  10. Hey all, What is ACTUALLY goin on with the GTX 970s ffrom Nvidia, i hear that it is a VRAM problem and that the last 700mb isn't working but can someone just give me a straight answer. Some are saying that there isn't a problem and that this happens on all cards. Please only answer if you know exactly what is happening, what Nvidia plan on doing about and how long it will take. Thnx in adavance, Brit,
  11. Hey all, I want to buy a 970 but i'm unsure what design to go for, i would quite like the Asus STRIX edition because of its design (Direct CU II) and its 0dcb mode. MSI have now released a Green edition of their version and i love the look of that one, would this be a better buy? My other dilemma is that the EVGA version has a higher core and boost clock than all of the others that i looked at. Also i love the design of the Gigabyte G1 gaming edition but from reviews it has a lot of coil wine which... yeah, would suck. What do you guys recommend (BTW i don't want any recommendations that tell me to buy an AMD card or a different gen card as i want to use that functions with Maxwell cores.) I have enough room in my case for any card as i have the Gigabyte tri-fan design running right now. I plan to overclock in the future but i'm not confident enough now. Also if anyone could recommend a video on how to safely overclock my graphics card and cpu that would be great too. Thnx in advance. brit
  12. K thanks guys i think im gonna go for a GTX 970, probably go for the gigabyte gaming edition coz im a sucker for light up stuff... Thanks for your help everyone. Anywhere you recommend to sell my old graphics card in the UK. Thanks again, Brit
  13. Hey all, I currently have an R9 270X Gigabyte OC Windforce edition. Im am looking to upgrade, i could either buy another r9 270x and crossfire the 2 or i can buy a brand new r9 290. I understand that Crossfired R9 270x would be better than an r9 290 but im not to confident on crossfire and i have heard that some games don't support crossfire. How easy is crossfire? Will i be able to uninstall my old drivers without affecting my CPU drivers? Should i move to Nvidia and how easy would this be? If i got an R9 290 then should i crossfire that in the future? Can i sell my old Card and what price would i get for it? Would it be best jst to buy another R9 270x and get some more ram or and H100i? If anyone can answer any of these questions please answer below.... Thanks in advance, Brit,
  14. by £100-150 less i meant that it is £100 less than if i bought a laptop. if i wanted to buy a laptop then i would buy one of these: http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=K4E40EA&opt=ABU&sel=PCNB&jumpID=ps_xeuz482n9f/sf:_sku:K4E40EA&k_clickid=EMEA%7Cd608f589-1eb0-4729-9a69-fc69ed7c1a64&kpid=K4E40EA&kpid=K4E40EA#ABU&gclid=Cj0KEQiAneujBRDcvL6f5uybhdABEiQA_ojMgh6C0_hLaOInyGptTk6ufwMoePaXeIaxewdyCS5M-xsaAu438P8HAQ
  15. Unfortunatley no, i have recently built my gaming pc so i dont have enough money for a laptop. I figure this is something just as good (for coding etc) for maybe, what, £100-150 less.
  16. Hey LTT Community, I am looking innto buying the a Rasberry Pi B+, mainly so I can code while I'm not at my desk. My main problem is that I'lI need some form of minature screen. I was looking for screens but a lot of them require soldering. I want somehting that will conect through HDMI and that I can fit it on a pivot maybe to create something like the old Gameboy Advanced SP. A Keyboard isn't much of a problem as I can pick one of those up at an electrical shop. The screen does not need to be to be touchscreen or have a very high res as all I'm going to be doing on it is writing and running code (Python). Thanks in advance, Brit,
  17. Hey all, After I play an intense game for over 1.5 hours and then go to watch a youtube video my computer screen becomes "glitchy" to say the least. Step by Step guide of whats happening: 1. I play a game like Planetside2 or Dota2 on Ultra. 2. I turn the game off and open Chrome. 3. Go onto a youtube video, the web page loads and then as soon as the video is about to start, the screen becomes unusable (it goes black and white lines appear to flash and move across the screen. 4. I turn the Monitor off and on again to try and fix the problem. 5. My other monitor does the same until i switch the first monitor back on. (This has happened several times but today was the worst. 6. i switched the other monitor back on and they both stayed black, the computer might of Bsod(ed) im not sure coz it flashed something that was blue but i couldn't read it in time before it turned black again and restarted. Everything seems fine, but i haven't tried to get it to do it since (as im posting this 5 mins after it happened.) I have Msi Afterburner and the GPU temps seem to be fine now but i didnt check before hand. If there is anyting i can help with to give you wonderful people more info don't hesitate to ask, i am trying to get some photos but they are on my phone and will take a bit to get them on there as i dont have the rigth cable yet. I am also scanning my pc for viruses just to rule out the option. Many Thanks, Brit, P.s I did Build this pc so yeah it could be me. derp. P.p.s Parts list: AMD FX8350 Asus M5a99fx PRO r.2 Wd Blue 1tb 1x 120gb Samsung 840 evo ssd 1x 240gb Samsung 840 evo ssd AMD r9 270x gigabyte windforce 8gb Corsair Vangeace pro ram CS 750m PSU from Corsair (gold certified) Cooler master Hyper t4 cpu cooler Fractal Design Define R4 Windowed. Asus PA238Q Piece of crap monitor i found on ebay, but it works. (Im gonna guess keyboard mouse and headset dont matter so yeah) P.p.p.s The fact that teh lines go to the other monitor when i turn my main one off leads me to believe that it is not the monitor but the computer that is the problem. P.p.p.p.s Naaa, im kidding no more P.s
  18. I absolutely love LinusTechTips, it has taught me so much about computers, hardware, software and tech in general. I love the almost laid back approach (Especially with TechQuickie) by this I mean that you guys can have a joke in the middle of a video and it still makes great content. You guys have made something that i hope will keep happening for years to come; you have given me the knowledge and confidenece to build my own pc (and prove everyone who thought i couldn't wrong) and im sure a lot of others feel this way as well. Much Regards, Brit, P.s Keep up the Great work. P.p.s I'm glad Linus doesn't have Horribly dyed Blonde Hair anymore.
  19. Title says it all, are the Pro art series really worth it?
  20. Hey all, Im after a gaming laptop that can run most games, dota2 portal etc, on medium settings. I want to spend as little as possible, within reason. Will most laptops play these games on low to mid? Thnx, Brit,
  21. Wow, thanks for all the feedback I think I will take some Ideas from this build, is a 750ti better than an r7 260x, I dont use any of the special features like shadow play. Will a 4th gen intel i3 give me similar performance to a quad core 4300 amd cpu. On second thoughts I think will go for a 500gb wd black for storage, fast and large may get a 1tb instead. Btw any newer post would be great if they were British Pounds, I forgot to mention before. Thank you to everybody who commented. Brit,
  22. Hey all, Here is my criteria: Bitfenix prodigy, personal choice and I love the case. Play Dota2 on max, Fave game. Ssd preferably, 120gb is enough only games will ne stored on this pc. Small and light, LAN party pc. Cheap as possible. I have built a large expensive pc and am looking for a small cheap one. Intel or AMD, not fussed. Why am I asking this on LTT if I can buil PCs? I have only built expensive large PCs before, I have no idea where to start with this pc. Thnx all, Brit,
  23. Hi all, I recently built a system and it works fine, and can runs things fine but as soon as i start to gae in lets say, dota2 the PSU becomes very noisey, aka the whole case begins to vibrate, i am certain that it is the PSU and i was awondering if there is any way i can quite it down without changing the psu fan. the psu is a corsair cs 750m, i am using about 500w of this so it cant be on full load. have i mounted it badly or should i try putting some of the hdd mounting gromits on it???? All suggestions welcome. Thnx, Brit,
