  1. ok, so, when you say use the tablet as your only monitor, do you also mean, use the touch feature of the tablet to control your PC? (ie, use the tablet as your interface, and screen, and the PC to do all the heavy lifting (which isn't really then using it as just a monitor) might also be helpful to know what you plan on using it for, I mean, there might be work arounds, or ap's designed to do what you're already doing, (like casting?)
  2. I dont know about others, but I had really enjoyed some of the stuff with max, I was kinda hoping to see more of her on camera as well, she seemed like she had a good sense of humour and has been awesome one camera (other than her hands, and good looks), also, miss the colourful hair anyway, best o luck max, and enjoy!!
  3. i sure second that, and laughed at the og poster claiming 28c as "boiling hot" while his computer coped with the "extreme" temp I mean there are some other factors like humidity, altitude, to name the big two but which cooling is better (as in air vs water) in real extreme temps (I'm thinking 35c plus) they both are winners, but it really would depend on what your loads are ie, if in your work flow you spend an hour designing something, which then requires some rendering that full loads the PC for 10 minutes or something, water all the way (the larger mass to spread the heat means you'll be able to load the CPU longer before throttling) however air has one advantage, and that is less points of failure, (ie, pump and fan on water vs two fans on air cooled) there is something that is sometimes overlooked in humid places (where AC is used alot, and a PC might be under super low loads the bulk of the time) and that is failure of the AC (which might be something like 16C) with an outside temp of 35+ with 110% humidity, you can have condensation for on the tank
  4. what about a holy $h!t about dead tech without a real replacement like dot matrix printers, (as they can do carbon copys) or old school calculator, (like plug in wall, some with printers, but enable the users to enter data without having to look at it like a phone would) stenographers typewriters (which could be a holy crap for most to see) magnetic tape storage (which to my understanding is still in use for longer term storage over flash or hard drive style storage) hell you could even extend that into things like OS's like why some of the many "high tech" machines in hospitals running (in some cases) 20yo computer software/hardware due to the nature of overall costs, closed systems, and development times
  5. okay, so displaying port are a little different than the ports we are talking about, (there is a reason that vga is still found which will kinda tie in with the next part) now, I'm not sure if youve been to many business meetings, like with proper boardrooms etc, but there are a few points that you might not be aware of mac friendly businesses, where there are macs on nearly all the desks etc, go into the boardroom, there will normally be a pc in the boardroom/meeting room running the AV, sometimes a mac mini, but even in the most hip of joints I've never seen a mac on space, second, when you do the sort of meeting that requires you to bring a usb or laptop for a presentation they tell you what they have as a set up, or what connections you need, I know for myself when I was doing talks for the qld government, you would get a "for the meeting make sure any usb devices are in xyz format for use in this program, and in bringing a device, it has a standard vga or rarely hdmi to save all that hassle for that reason most older (in terms of being around a long long time) business, government, or specialist industries will have a display/projector that is VGA, because it was hugely common, they often find that the nice wiring job done years ago in a room that might not get used often is an expense they dont need, (if the room has all the comforts and projects that image of power, and a nice clean set up where the projector is hidden, and the cables hide in a spot in the desk, that isn't going to change) and if there was a place that was all mac, and I mean all mac, they would have a converter for normal non cult people to use, or bluetooth you also missed one point, any pro that needed to have ports and connections for things, wouldn't be buying this anyway, nor and IT department worth their salt, naming it a pro doesn't make it is pro also, pro devices in use by business people who do meetings, and talks are often only buying them for wank factor, i mean there is a reason that while plain looking lenovo still has a good market share in the business space (and it isn't just because they have drain holes that make coffee spills less scary)
  6. it was more a point that the port while for some "has been around forever" it's not really the case, ports come and go, usb really has only been the mainstream for what, 18 odd years, and I for one stuck with ps/2 (port) when there was still PS2's (palystation) for sale laptops have always had a lack of port support (in terms of what ports they carried) I can't see how this would be a shock (overall) and this isn't really the first time mac has pulled that sort of crap, just this time it isn't some mac only port like firewire (which never really was big in consumer stuff, but was massive, and still widely used in some pro circles)
  7. remember a time before USB, pepperidge farms remembers and so do I, man, I've only had three USB keyboards, and that is only over the last 5 years
  8. it seems odd that others could get something onto or close to on the market already yet apple (who didn't have to develop the product based rumours there would be a lack of a head phone jack) so why the stumble? not fully sorted, and somewhat faulty but looking great hasn't stopped them releasing in the past, so that can't be it, there would be some major use issue, and the most likely would be either syncing issues, or the battery will die within some stupid short time like with-in an hour (and those 18hours of use they quote I think are the earbuds case charging them on the go)
  9. that wont work as 2:1 isn't ideal, and it's the greatest to work on (to consume is great) that "mess of legacy" comes from user feedback mostly (and 100's of year in terms of print ratios etc) you're looking at it like they has screwed this not, "they looked at what was best for the user"
  10. i think you're confused in your rant aspect ratios, are just ratios, the reason they are like that is years and years of film and photo, and print they were the ratios that people found more comfortable or easier to consume the resolution measurement it simply a count of pixels there isn't some system like you seem to think, it was often what the tech was limited to be on the display side, or broadcast side, (and once a format had been established they stuck to it for investment reasons)
  11. 10 to 1 it's about sync issues, or something battery life wise
  12. well, the only option left would be to get a card that wont be stressed, there isn't a fix if the fans are good, airflow good, It's like towing a heavy load with a little car vs a truck, the car will do it, but it will work hard, be loud, and not great to work with vs a truck that can do it with easy not sure what your budgets like, but new card man
  13. airflow access for the card is different that case airflow the like I said, mine was only loud when access to cool air drop, and I was working with ambient room temps that could be above 30 degree to start with
  14. what, it's less limiting that requiring you be able to move to BC etc seems like a complaint about something for the sake of complaining (fyi, I'd be pretty damn sure you'd need a google account in the course of testing any of the google products, like android phones, or chrome books, and loads of other things)
  15. it might be the access to air for the card itself, meaning that the car had to work harder to pull in the required volume of air to cool it is it a tight system with another card butting up to it? or something else that could be blocking access to air for the card? (I've run a gainward 660 in my rig in the past and it was golden unless I was using my 450 as a pysix card which would make it go into really high fan rpms, and took longer for the fans to throttle down (all in a fairly bare factual XL case, on a full sized atx board) the case temps themselves never rose but i think it was enough that it pushed it over the edge (and I live in very hot, and humid place to start with)
