  1. Is there a way to lower that ram usage? I'm having to restart the browser entirely to lower it. I hate to do that because I have so many tabs open in so many windows. Right now I'm having to bookmark all tabs before I close the browser and restart to lower ram usage. I've also attached the memory pressure screenshot. It is orange right now. I'm not sure if that is a good or a bad thing. Sometimes it climbs up and goes red which I don't think is a good thing. I'm not sure. This is the first time I'm using a mac as you can probably tell lol Is there a fix to this to have the MS edge helper use less ram? I don't want to change browsers but I'd be open to doing it as long as it isn't safari because I need to keep my browsing separate from work. So I use different Profiles for that. I don't think Safari has that functionality.
  2. I'm using Spark right now but it doesn't look like they will allow read receipts anytime soon. Do you guys know of any other email clients that allows read receipts? I'm managing more than 12 email ids so I'll need an email client for this. Can't use a web browser to manage all of them, unless there is a way to do that. TIA
  3. I bought the 8GB base model about a month ago and I use it for work. I usually have 3-4 browsers open with around 5-10 tabs open in each browser. Along with that I use spotify, onenote, spark, textmate, skype, zoom phone, whatsapp, excel and word docs. All of these apps are open at the same time and I switch back and forth depending on what I'm doing. So far, it has been smooth like a butter. And my ssd usage has been at 100% as well. I still think there is a lot of headroom even after keeping all of those apps open at the same time. So unless you are going to do something very hardware intensive, I think the base model will be perfect for you.
  4. I was thinking, since the m1 macbook air has a usb c charging port, would it be a good idea to charge it with my oneplus usb c charger? Or is it better to just stick with the original charger that comes in the box? If I could reliably charge with my oneplus charger, I will only have to carry just 1 cable with me which would be perfect. Have any of you guys tried doing this?
  5. @Darksethwas correct. the drain was mainly because of syncing. once it did what it needed to get everything up to date, I'm getting my usual 12-13hrs on battery. Thanks guys.
  6. I reinstalled it. Lets see if that resolves the issue this time. I tested the battery drain and without onedrive I was getting 12-13hrs battery. With onedrive I get around 9-10hrs
  7. I just got the M1 Air and its the best thing. Even the base model is working perfectly for me. But I'm noticing that the battery indicator in the menu bar always says that onedrive is using a significant amount of battery. In the activity monitor I see it using a lot of battery as well. Is there a solution to this? I have a subscription so I prefer to keep using it. Do you guys have the same problem? If so, do the alternatives like google drive or icloud consume less battery? I'd rather not use icloud because I hate Numbers.
  8. yeah I plan on selling this a couple months after the m1x macbook pros are released. but until then though, if this memory pressure stays the same, do you think it will have any long term negative effects to the machine?
  9. https://prnt.sc/1qz28m7 I have a bunch of browsers and other apps open. chrome with 8 tabs safari - 1 tab firefox - 4 tabs brave - 1 tab ms edge - 2 tabs (8 inactive tabs) spark email client spotify skype slack 2 excel windows clean my mac x
  10. I just bought an M1 macbook air and the memory pressure is always red. I'm not sure what to make of this but it seems like using Safari over Chrome and almost any other browser is better to bring it back to green. But I wanted to know if I don't change anything in how I use this computer, would the red memory pressure cause any long term issues? Or it's just an indicator like we have in windows task manager?
  11. I decided to go with the 8GB version for now. and I'll upgrade it to one of the new M1x macbook pros once a couple of months goes by and I get some good CC offers where I live
  12. I do plan on using this macbook for at least 4-5 years. I rarely upgrade new computers
  13. Right now I'm using a windows computer and it has 16gigs of ram. Whenever I open task manager, I see that I'm using around 13-15GB ram on average. Reason I'm confused is that the salesperson at the store tried to convince me to buy the 8GB ram model because Apple has optimized its hardware and software to use less ram. He also gave me an example of how the iphones have less ram than android phones. And I could also save about $300 if I choose not to upgrade to 16GB. What do you guys recommend. Is it true what he is saying and that I should go for the 8GB model? Or should I ignore him and buy the 16GB model and futureproof the laptop? Another question I had was about waiting a month to see what the new macbooks will be like. But I'm pretty sure they will be more expensive than the M1 air right now even with the 16GB upgrade. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
  14. Microsoft surface is like $270 where I live. Way out of my budget. I'm looking at the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard. I think it's a membrane keyboard if I'm not wrong.
