So, a little backstory first. I cannot write for shit. My writing is messy and very slow, so since grade 3 about 9 years ago I've used various typing tools, be it a laptop or a simple word processing machine to get much of my work done. I think this was late grade 4, I used a very basic machine that was basically a giant keyboard with a small screen attached. It could do nothing except process word documents. My class had been working on a writing project for the past week or so and so upon being given work time I went and grabbed the keyboard-screen-thing.

Upon turning it on, I found that all my data had been wiped. Every single project or assignment I had saved was simply gone. I naturally started panicking a bit and explained the situation to my teacher. After running around for awhile I considered the work as a total loss. I couldn't even make new word documents because they would be wiped the moment I turned it off. Lunch comes around, and I tell one of my friends what happened. He is utterly convinced he can fix it.

While I was trying to figure out how to recover my data, I found a way to get to a terminal thing by turning the device on, and then rapidly switching it off and on again. I was skeptical about his ability to actually fix the data, because it was pretty damn clear that the whole stupid thing was dead.

So he takes it and I open the terminal for him.

He types "What did you do with [Applepienation]'s data?"

Now, I wasn't all that familiar with how computers work, but I knew that the computers didn't recognize how we speak, let alone know my name.

Well, I told him that, but it sure as hell didn't stop him from trying over and over again.

    "Where is this data?"

"Why did you delete this data?"

    "What happened to [story]?"

And so on. After a few minutes of that I was getting annoyed and grabbed the... thing.

He grabbed it back and kept trying, fruitlessly, to try and prove he knew how this thing thought, and he seemed utterly convinced that sooner it would cave to the pressure and just spit up the data. It didn't. I found the manual later and found a command that would test the components of the thing and it confirmed that the storage drive was in fact busted for good.

Still didn't stop my friend from trying.

He eventually gave up, but still.

I had a really old Windows 98 (95?) computer a long time ago, but we got rid of it back in 2005.
My second computer had some 1.6GHz dual core and 1gb RAM, which we've gotten rid of.
Next oldest part is a Q6600, so yeah.

A classmate of mine wanted to pirate a game. So what did he do? Googled "Free download of [game]" and clicked on the first google result. He then clicked on the first button that said download. He then clicked yes on everything.

Against all odds, he didn't get a virus and only one useless toolbar thing for IE.

So, a classmate of mine brought in an old ASUS ROG laptop he'd repaired and intended to sell the other day. It was goddamn massive.

A couple other classmates came in, and knowing nothing about computers, started marveling over it. The bottom was off and they were touching everything, pulling at the harddrive, and tapping the motherboard. They then started more or less making up benchmarks about it saying things like "It can probably run Skyrim/Battlefield 4/CoD Ghosts/whatever) on high/ultra/max). "It must have like 20tb of storage" and other stuff like that.

While they were doing this, me and the other person were chuckling to ourselves, when suddenly one of the people marveling over this technological masterpiece asked how much it was being sold for.

The guy who brought it in almost said $700, but I cut him off and said $1200.

ALMOST made the deal too. The deal breaker was that it wouldn't fit in his backpack, of all things.

So I was chatting with a friend a few days ago and he was complaining about how he always ended up with viruses on his computer.

Him:Yeah it's really annoying, I've had to reinstall windows already and I might have to wipe my hard drive again.
Me: How the hell do you keep on doing that? What the hell are you downloading?!?
Him: I just download a lot of stupid shit all the time.
Me: Well then, maybe, just maybe, you should try not downloading said stupid shit? I have a feeling that might just solve your problem.

There was a couple seconds where he had this look that was a cross between indignance, realization, and dumbfoundedness.

Him: Well I like to mod my games and make them more awesome.
Me: Oh right, I've seen you mod skyrim. Your mod folder was bigger than the raw game, half the mods were from third party websites, and there were a few that would make pornstars blush. You could only run 6 of them at one time without the whole computer crashing. And what about those less than reputable pirated game torrents, the lack of an ad block, and the lack of a virus protection program?
Him: I just never got around to downloading those. And I can explain those mods-
    Me: I'd rather you not.

Long story short, next time I see him he's gonna bring his computer and he's gonna let me put a second GPU for SLI, overclock the CPU, and get a half hour with a clean OS to install some other stuff on.

Half Life 2 gets better as it goes along. The first couple of hours the pacing and tension isn't really there.
As far as technical innovation is concerned when it dropped ten years ago it was the first game with realistic physics modelling, and the first game with such good facial animation.
The gunplay itself is nowhere near as good as games like Battefield or Valve's own CS;GO. The guns don't recoil which kills the enjoyment a bit.

And no you are not the only one who doesn't like HL2, no game has universal popularity, like any artform tastes vary...

For me personally HL2 ep1 and HL2 ep2 are better games than HL2 itself, albeit shorter. And I think portal 2 is the best single-player game which Valve has done.

Seriously, I mean no offence to the OP, but I really don't see a good reason to announce this as news. It isn't a surprise. Now if a game is announced to run at full 1080p/60 then I could see it being news.

Odds are you'll probably be able to max any game at 60fps. I haven't seen any true benchmarks for it though, but you could add about ~20% framerate to any 1080p benchmarks you see.

    It's still overkill.
