warmon6 reacted to Whaler_99 in LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19
Nice to see this going on and the community pulling together. I've been reading up and looks the folks are working on bringing more WU's into the system as well as more back end architecture to support the surge!
Congrats and thanks to all for working and donating!
Cheers and love to all!

You can help scientists studying Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and many cancers by simply running a piece of software on your computer.
Join others around the world to form the world's largest distributed supercomputer.
Here is link to download the software....

Here is a link to the Installation Guides for various OSes:

You need that for bonus points. After you have complete 10 Work Units on the CPU slot, you will then get extra PPD point.

warmon6 got a reaction from Favebook in LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19
Other than you'll have access to more (and different types of) WU's. Not really.
Beta and Advance are tags to get WU's not in normal circulation yet due to their early nature.
Beta WU's should be self explanatory while advance WU's are WU's that have exit beta but still need further tests to be sure there's no problems. (Kind of like early access or something like that).
Also to note, If you have Issue with advance WU's, you can hop on F@H support forum (not LTT forum) and discuss your issues about the WU. (Like it's failing at a certain step or %). Beta WU however, you will not get support unless your a Beta User on F@H forum.
So it's highly recommend not to run the Beta flag unless your a beta member. https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8

warmon6 got a reaction from Gorgon in Congratulations & a little rip down memory lane
As a old friend to the Linus Tech Tips F@H team, I just wanted to say thank you to all the people coming together to fight for a common cause. 🤗
It's nice to see that a lot of the ground work the old timers laid out back in January 2013 still holds to this day. I remember @Whaler_99 "working his butt off" getting this team up and running and assisting everyone that need it.
It doesn't feel like it was that long ago but wow, look how much you guys (as the LTT team) have grown.
From a mere 160 active folders (April 2013) when a few of you guys join in on your very first F@H Competition (The Chimp Challenge with overclockers.com, RIP....) to the current Covid-19 outbreak and competition with 33K+ Active users (and growing).
(16:00 mins into the video for F@H stuff)
7 years after starting, You guys are now the titans of the F@H world that EVGA and [H]ardOCP once was when this team started.
Well.... Keep it up all you crazy folders! Even after we beat down covid-19, there will still be other stuff we need to cure. Remember, at the end of the day, Science Win when you fold!
Also congratulations to reaching 1 Billion Points per Day (Well it's 971M PPD atm..... but you'll be there shortly).
WTF! (old folding slang for "WAY TO FOLD!")

As a member of another F@H team (Tom's hardware), I welcome you guy to the fold!
It's great to see new team's coming around that have a lot of potential. I predict that you guys will be in the top 100 teams in a year or 2 from now.
Now I do see a few thing that could be added to sticky from F@H official site that could be useful:
The official forum: http://foldingforum.org/
The official News blog: http://folding.typepad.com/
These 2 link will allow people to keep updated on any news that might come from F@H and the official forum's allow people to ask technical questions that only F@H themselves can answer (such as not being able to connect to a server or why am I not getting any points).
I also recommend watching other teams forums/sites. Many of them have very detailed guides and tip's on improving current systems and really powerful systems like 4 processor servers.
Just to link a few (you dont have to add these but there good sources of information):
Tom's Hardware folding@home guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/34...esting#t499233
[H]ard forum "[H]orde|Central v3.0 - Everything DC (FAQ's, Guides, Tips and Tricks)": http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1575052
Overclock.net "Complete Client v7 Guide": http://www.overclock.net/t/977412/windows-7-complete-client-v7-guide#post_12918150
Well hope all this stuff help anyone that might need it.
I'll be around if anyone needs additional help. :D

warmon6 got a reaction from mustafaali61 in What's the average points per day?
Well, That depends on all the systems that person is folding on.
Some fold on 1 machine, Some fold on multiple machines, and others I'm sure are running data centers within there house.
For me, I'm doing 0 ppd (PPD = points per day) as i've turn off my machines for the summer.
If i was folding normally, I could be getting about 10K ppd with my core I7 920 (stock and not running 24/7. It does other things besides folding) and about 1k PPD with my Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop with a Pentium T2390 cpu. (My first folding computer).

Well, I notice I missed 1 more useful thing. I dont use it to often but here a "WU Bonus calculator" (saddly I forget who made this) that you can enter your Project (WU) number, TPF and upload time to figure out what kind of points you should be getting.
http://linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php
Just a tool that might be helpful. :)
If i remember anything else, I'll come along and post it here. :)

Well, my question to you is, what home server would require that much raw cpu power? ;)
At least in the normal situation that i would think of for a home server (File sharing, printer sharing, TV/Movie recording if a tv turner is connected), even my core i7 920 at stock is overkill for that kind of purpose.
Typically, if your running this much cpu power under the hood for personal usage, chances are, you have a very specific task in mind. Typically includes:
Folding
Boinc
Bitcoin
Rendering (or could be apart of a render farm)
Web server (might be overkill if your not running a popular web page.)
Game server
Those are about the only things I could see that someone would need cpu power.

Not sure if any of you guys have temp issues with F@H but I guess this could be a plus for additional control.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Now this is something that isn't F@H related but I just want to mention this will be my last post mention any F@H news for a while and I'll be going quiet in general on the forum.
On the 12 of November, I'll be heading to Job Corps in pursuit of better education and picking up a trade. (hopefully computer / I.T technician)
For our fellow folders outside of the US that dont know what Job Corps is, I'll quote the web site as I couldn't say it any better.
http://www.jobcorps.gov/home.aspx
I'll probably be in this program for the next 6 months (possibly shorter or long depending on how fast I complete the program) and my internet usage will be pretty limited.
So except for U.S. holidays (that government employees would get days off), I will not be on the forums.
Also want to mention that this will most likely prevent me for assisting with the upcomming "Chimp Challenge" (or what ever the new name might be).
So I'll have to pass the torch on to someone else getting that all coordinated.
Well, once I'm done with Job Corps, I'll be back. Ready to assist and help like always.
