  1. Hey people I just gave away my laptop to my younger brother in exchange of a very old computer with monitors and peripherals. It's a Lenovo motherboard with a LGA1366 Duak Core Xeon W3503 and a Quadro 660. Horrible. I am going through my final year of high school and have saved up money for a future gaming PC but that's gonna be in a year and a few months. Until then I want a usable computer. What would be an entire motherboard and cpu upgrade that would give me the best performance on a budget of around AUD $300? I don't want to game on this (not new titles anyway) but I do want to get some editing and maybe some rendering done. What do you think?
  2. Yes. It worked in linux just fine and I downloaded the official driver from intel. Its an intel centrino 6205
  3. So I have an Asus K53SV laptop which came with a 2.4GHz band only wifi card. I decided to upgrade and salvaged an Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205 from a broken laptop. It didn't work on windows. The driver couldn't start (error code 10). But the thing is when I booted on Linux Mint it worked just fine! I completely reinstalled windows and tried installing the driver before installing anything else but no luck! Please help
  4. Hello everyone! I saw many people asking for help here and I figured I'd ask too since I need a bit of help. I have exactly $1224 USD dollar I gathered over 4 months with summer job. I can probably squeeze out $100 USD from my pocket if necessary. My goal is to build a whole system from scratch. That means I have nothing, even a monitor. I'm in Australia so that makes about $1614 AUD. My goal is a future upgradable built (maybe in a year or so). I can start off with smaller HDD for example and upgrade later. It will be used for AAA gaming (like DOOM, ROTTR and heavy games) and 3D modeling and game developing (mostly in UE4). I will probably use 2 monitors but for now just one would do (preferably 1080p @120Hz) and I'll probably use my laptop's display as a second display over LAN until I get enough money. I do have a mouse but I will probably get a cheap $5 keyboard. I was thinking of getting a GTX 1060 but it has no SLI and I'll have to throw it away if I buy a new GPU later on, so... I don't know So wizards, help me with thy techie magic!
  5. It all really depends on the material being used. Even if the best materials are used there's a limit in real life of how much electrons move around and the space they can move in. Higher cost batteries are of course better. I bought x10 Chinese 18650 batteries for 30 USD. I used them to replace the battery cells of my laptop battery. The batteries I had were 3000 mAh and the ones I bought were 1500 mAh. So it holds one and a half hours. Originally, the battery could hold 3 to 4 hours of charge. Basically more capacity + performance = higher cost because better production value.
  6. I'm still not god level in electronics but I'll let good old Louis Rossman explain: Hope it helps!
  7. I've been following LTT for a while now but never bothered to sign up in the forums. Well... with the giveaway I had a perfect excuse to try and win a laptop *cough cough* I've no money *cough cough* I just wanted to offer you guys a token of my appreciation. Cookies for everyone! Here's a batch of them! Dig in
  8. I would prefer winning the NEW Razer Blade 14. The main purpose being, of course, gaming on my not so crappy laptop and getting good performance above 20 fps... and another reason would be showing it off to my best friend who would be totally jealous Thanks btw and good luck to everyone!
