If you want to be a "networker" look into Linux server OSs.
If you want a reasonably simple NAS, which can run VMs, look at UnRaid. You could run UnRaid and run Linux in a VM for testing things.

I had this a few years ago.
There are two batteries in the pen, a button cell and a AAAA (four As)

The button cell powers the Bluetooth part, the other battery powers the actual pen movement. You need to get an AAAA.

I'm not 100% sure you know what DNS is, so let me explain in very basic terms and I will then explain why this is not a solid performance-increasing solution.

DNS is a Domain Name System, it;s used to resolve names into IP Addresses, and can be used for vice-versa.  Using a high quality DNS Service like OpenDNS does have benefits, like decreased DNS Query time due to better servers & infrastructure and lots of caching.  It is no secret that OpenDNS caches on their servers.  This means OpenDNS can be faster if you are close to it, unfortunately here in New Zealand I cannot receive those benefits as the nearest OpenDNS server is in Australia.

The reason this shouldn't be increasing internet upload and download is found in the above paragraph, because DNS is only used to resolve domain names and vice-versa. The download itself occurs from the IP address and not from the domain name (as far as I'm aware).  The only way this would improve is if you were running a proxy server, which is routing your connection through another server.  Often done for anonymity or connecting to a service that the proxy is white-listed to.

Although I'm not directly blaming you for fabricating those above stats, I'm also curious as to why the ping without the trick is 0.17 which is faster than with the trick, which has a ping of 17.  While the download and upload are opposite in terms of where they should be according to the ping speed.  This means that either your connection is extremely flakky, or you fabricated those statistics.

OpenDNS is a great DNS Service, and does indeed have many benefits depending on your location to the server + your needs (filtering, caching etc).  But I don't think it should cause an improvement in this context.  Best of luck Jelly Boy!

its an old monitor because his main one broke...
then its NVIDIAs dick move  VGA is awesome, who dosent want a basically unregulated standard theoretically capable of 4K

just get DP to VGA or HDMI to VGA, more expensive but work just as well

Emmien reacted to D13H4RD in What do you think of USB-C?
USB-C is the future....in both good and bad ways.

For one, I love its potential, especially when it has a Thunderbolt 3 controller, acting as a USB port, power input/output, DisplayPort and even for external GPUs.

On the other hand, the transition could've been done better. Not by removing all ports and slapping USB-C without at least providing a dongle in the box....Apple.

i really like USB-C, mainly for the fact that its reversible. but that dosent mean i want laptops with just 4 USB-C ports, 6 or so if its going to be used for everything id say

Emmien reacted to System Error Message in What do you think of USB-C?
some thoughts i should say about usb-c. Its nicer than your standard usb as it works regardless of orientation. It can provide more power and can do various things.

What usb-c shouldnt be is a dongle happy world. Those ethernet slots, display slots and so on should still be there. It should however allow for IO that is less common.

Thunderbolt should be a standard for usb-c. Perhaps the power over thunderbolt may not need to be there but that PCIe connection however is a lot better to have always. Many devices can benefit using PCIe over usb both in latency and overhead such as your ethernet dongle or perhaps your 40Gb/s NICs..

I'll also add this separately ...

You can buy from eBay network cards with 4 x 1 gbps ports, on pci-e x4 or x8  (but they'll work even on x4 or x1 slots)
With a suitable network switch you could do "port trunking", basically linking the four ports together to have a 4 gbps connection to the switch.
Do the same with another computer, and both computers would have a 4 gbps connection to the switch.
You would still get 1 gbps maximum for single file transfers, but if you transfer multiple files at the same time you will get 4 gbps.

Newer Windows OSes also have a similar technique where you can join network ports but not all network cards are supported.

Here's an example of such card  .. 27$ for four ports: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-593720-001-4-Port-PCIe-1Gbps-Ethernet-Server-Adapter-/222551528331
2 port cards are cheaper and more common : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-Port-PCI-EX1-Intel-82575EB-E1G42ET-EF-E1G44ET-Gigabit-Server-Adapter-/261541748491?

Should you be doing this? Shouldn't the school IT people be doing this? Why is your IT teacher letting you do this?

If you want to connect more devices, you need a switch, not a router, but it would be better for your school IT department to do this. They may be able to run several cables and patch them to an existing switch in a rack somewhere.

I am mainly upgrading because it doesn't have SATA, and it isn't economical to buy manufacturer refurbished IDE drives as backups.

Connect just the PC and camera, then set your PCs IP as 192.168.1.something (Obviously not 100) and see if you see the camera. Then use its interface to change it to something in your router's range.

If you have not included the information required in your first post, I doubt you actually need a render farm.

You can pay a company to use their rendering servers to get something rendered quickly, if that is what you need.

Unless you are going to be rendering out a lot, you probably would be fine with a single fast PC.
