  1. So much dive and no Intel gaming comparison? The overclocking has gone this far and no updated 3900x vs 9900k ?
  2. Hello everyone, I need help with a workstation i want to make for me. I was planing to get a dual xeon e5-2690 v1 with 128GB ram but i also wanted to be able to have windows 10 on it. I found some asrock motherboards with a bit of tinkering was able to run windows 10 pro on them and recognise the 2 cpu's. I think i need some more info on that before i risk 300 euros on a motherboard so i thought to drop it here. 1) Is there a Socket R on your knoledge that can run with less problems windows 10? I know it's an unsupported socket so new drivers is off the table but still, is there any hope? 2) I was wondering also if the motherboard thing is to be a disaster is there a way through KVM or other virtualization to see all the ram and cores on windows 10? I know for instance ESXi on the free version is limited on 8 cores per VM.
  3. Just as followup on the insident 2 drives on the array had died and the health check on the HP was showing them as healthy! We had the raid shiped to a recovery company that repaired the motor on one of the disks so that we can access the array again. As of now i officially hate raid on HP. The raid even though it was recovered all the data in it was partially or totaly corrupted. We managed to scrap bit's and pieces of our data but it's totally a mess.
  4. can't find one at this price range. It all goes 1000+ euro
  5. Hello guys i need help! I need a help choosing a laptop for a friend. He is an interior designer and need's to be able to work on corel, photoshop and illustrator and some times at the same time. The budget is around 700 EURO but if there is good deal for better productivity he can go for a bit more. I suggested Acer Nitro v17 that's around 800. Do you have any better ideas?
  6. Same principle applies to 144Hz monitor too. It's all about money priority. I would go for the following for a gaming pc VGA > CPU > High refresh monitor > Gsync. To explain the previous logic lets say you have reached to the point in a system build that you have money for a 144Hz monitor but if you want to get it with GSync you have to cut something out then the previous rule apply. You don't reduce the VGA, CPU or High refresh rate to save for GSync if you can cut from the case of maybe delay some peripherals like RGB mech keyboard or RGB stripes and controllers for the case. Those you can always buy down the road and are easy to reach goals due to the low individual value.
  7. some folks recommended to take the cards and plug them in a linux machine and make DD of each disk as a point of recovery so that we could reconstruct the array back in the drives in case the card make changes to it that loses the data.
  8. Short answer yes it makes a big difference. Long answer, this comes in to how much your build budget is. If lets say the 150 USD that the gsync cost will get you from a GTX 1060 to a GTX 1070 then it's a matter of priority in getting a better card that will actually will be able to push the 60Hz of a standar monitor to it's max and keep it there. But keep in mind that even with a gtx 1070 and a 60Hz monitor flickers are there and they can't ruine your immersion in the game. Diving more in that subject you will find that some jenre of games like fast pace shoot 'em ups are greatly improved by this due to the nature of the game flow.
  9. Any risk of losing our data with this move?
  10. We are running an ml350 g6 for some time now with esxi 5.5 on it. Yesterday the raid 5 that has all the vm disks stopped working. I open the controller of the raid, a P410i, and searched for an answer only to find this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwpBULNj2r4BamRZZHVfZ0RfZWs The server when it boots it shows me the following message https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwpBULNj2r4BeVg5SS1hR013SW8 The array in my view appears to be fine but the controller doesn't recognize it. The message scares us to the bone an we avoid pressing F2 for now. From my searches up to now there is no clarification of this being recoverable even though all the drives in the array appear to be ok from the controller screen. Any ideas? In all our brilliance we got no backup of this array by the way...
  11. dell r410 are not that much quiet. I got a r210 and at idle the whole house can hear the fans! It's really hard to keep the room cool because we get 40C degrees here in the summer so i need an all season solution. The r510 on the other hand is a bit more quiet but i think there are better solutions with more power efficiency. I don't need it to be 1u or 2u. I would be fine with 3u and 4u chassis!
  12. If you look on a previous answer you will see i found a 2 Xeon e5-2670 with quanta 2011 motherboard and 16GB ram at 370 euro (414 USD). The sas adapter is what i'm asking what to choose for this setup so that i don't lose smart reading on Gluster or Ceph. Will the LSI 9211-8i be ok with all this?
  13. Does anyone have any experience with the Quanta motherboards? I see i can get a dual 2011 socket with 150 euro along with 160 for 2 e5-2670 seems too good to be true!
  14. How many nodes does Ceph need for a basic deployment?
