  1. That's awesome! Thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately, currently the dummy RAM they sell doesn't match their DDR5 models. That said, I'll hold out hope that someday they release some dummy memory for the Dominator model or the brand new design they have for the Vengeance model.
  2. Thanks for the detailed response. Darn, I was afraid there was going to be drawbacks like this. Honestly, I just like the look of all 4 channels being filled with RGB memory. While it doesn't sound like a huge decrease in speed, I definitely don't want to be dealing with any issues.
  3. I just saw a build that uses 2 packs of 2x16 DDR5 so it combines to be 4x16 DDR5. Does that actually work or are there limitations? If I remember right, I thought DDR5 was limited to 2 sticks. That's pretty much all I've seen and all the buying options are for 2 sticks. What's going on here?
  4. I would just recommend going with Windows Defender. As for technically the best AV software, I would have to say probably Kaspersky despite all the recent controversy around it. It's founders are Russian and I think US government employees aren't allowed to have it installed on their computers, but I wouldn't worry about it much as a random private citizen.
  5. Thanks for the info. You make some good points and yeah, I'm bummed out about the slow decline in monitors with a dedicated G-sync module too. The monitor I'm getting is the ASUS PG42UQ which is 4k 138hz overclocked (...I know it's a weird number) and it's not G-sync ultimate. I should have specified that by FPS I mean competitive e-sports multiplayer FPS games. I always see the pro players playing with like 300+ fps in those games and just figured they weren't using any variable refresh rate because it was better to have more fps than no screen tearing. I just wanted to know what other people do/think about the trade off. Oh, and I'm totally with you, I'm still going to be noob even with all the frames in the world.
  6. Haha, I totally feel where you're coming from. There's nothing quite as frustrating as getting yelled at by kids half my age in a COD game. I do play play plenty of single player games as well, though. I just always see those pro guys playing with like 300fps in Overwatch, CSGO, etc. so I figured there must be an advantage to it, but who am I kidding, I'm not trying to go pro these days.
  7. I'm going to be getting back into playing FPS games (COD, CSGO, R6, etc.) on PC and I'm wondering if I should just disable Gsync for these games since I'm going to be getting like 200+ FPS which is way higher than my monitor refresh rate. Or would you recommend just capping it at 140FPS (my monitor refresh rate) and having Gsync enabled. If I remember right, if you have Gsync enabled and go over the FPS of your refresh rate the monitor starts flashing black or something.
  8. Thanks for the info. What is the advantage of using the HDMI 2.0 slot? I thought DP was recommended over HDMI for computers.
  9. I currently have a GTX 1080 and my new monitor (ASUS PG42UQ) will probably be getting here before all my new PC parts arrive. I'm just wondering if it would be possible for me to at least plug in the new monitor on my current PC to make sure it doesn't have any defects. Apparently the GTX 1080 is DP 1.2/3 (?) but the new monitor is DP 1.4.
  10. To be fair, the game probably has the best graphics of any PC game. It's locked at 30FPS on PS5. The real FPS drain seems to be all those damn rats! I was watching a guy with a RTX 4090 do a playthrough with no DLSS and even with a 4090 he was dropping under 60FPS (in 4k resolution) whenever those mobs of like 1000 rats would spawn. In my personal opinion, I'm fine with the performance considering how amazing the graphics are. I get more displeased when games nerf gfx for people on last gen consoles and stuff like that.
  11. Thanks for the info. I'll look into those SSDs. I am planning on keeping the ML fans on the top side of the radiator. It will be a push/pull config. Since those ML fans are going to be on the top side of the radiator where nobody can see them it should be no problem to not be able to control the RGB on them.
  12. What other NVMe drives would you recommend instead? I just went with Samsung because they have always been reliable for me. I'd go with a corsair PSU if they had one with an LCD screen. I like the look of the QL fans. The other fans Corsair makes don't look good when you look at the back side of them. I also heard something about not being able to mix/match fan types in the Corsair fan/RGB hub thing.
  13. Thanks for your recommendations. It might not be the best, but I like the look of the Corsair AIO with the screen and I'm way too much of a noob to build/maintain one of those hardline liquid cooling systems. My friend had one once and it leaked all over his PC parts. The keyboard goes well with the case and I like that you can attach that cool touchscreen to it. Someone on the forums linked me to this really informative article about bifurcation: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-pci-express-scaling/29.html TLDR: You're right that it's a very marginal decrease in framerate for most games. However, there are some games where it decreases 5-15FPS and this seems to be more true for newer titles that use DX12. As such, I'm worried that future games will be impacted much more from splitting the bandwidth of the gfx card. As another user put it, I have to weigh potentially losing some FPS or getting a new PCIe 5.0 SSD that really doesn't benefit me for gaming. They advised just sticking with the 980pro SSD.
  14. Budget (including currency): $8000 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming and web browsing. Other details: I'm upgrading from a PC that was built for me 6 years ago. It has a GTX 1080, i7-6700k and 1440p 165hz monitor. Here is my new "no compromise" build. I've already ordered the RTX 4090 and i9-13900k. I hope to have everything else ordered within the next couple weeks. I'm wondering if there's anything you would upgrade or choose differently? Any input is appreciated. Everyone on these forums have been super helpful just like they were when I put together my last parts list over 6 years ago! PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JT4VH2 CPU: Intel Core i9-13900K 3 GHz 24-Core Processor ($690.00) CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE LCD 58.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($289.95 @ B&H) Motherboard: Asus ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($630.00) Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL38 Memory ($384.99 @ Corsair) Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($142.88 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($219.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: Asus ROG STRIX GAMING GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Video Card (Purchased For $2000.00) Case: Corsair iCUE 5000T RGB ATX Mid Tower Case ($399.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Asus ROG THOR P2 Gaming 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($333.00) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Home Retail - USB 64-bit ($139.00 @ B&H) Case Fan: Corsair iCUE QL120 41.8 CFM 120 mm Fan ($31.99 @ Amazon) - Rear Exhaust Case Fan: Corsair iCUE QL120 41.8 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack ($103.99 @ Amazon) - Front Case Fan: Corsair iCUE QL120 41.8 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack ($103.99 @ Amazon) - Side Case Fan: Corsair iCUE QL120 41.8 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack ($103.99 @ Amazon) - AIO Monitor: ASUS pg42uq ($1400.00) Mouse: Razer Mamba Elite Wired Optical Mouse ($43.00) Keyboard: Corsair iCUE Nexus Companion Touch Screen – 5” Diagonal Screen – 6 Programmable Virtual Macro Buttons + K100 RGB Optical-Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Corsair OPX RGB Optical-Mechanical Keyswi ($287.00) GPU Holder: ASUS ROG Herculx Graphics Card Anti-Sag Holder Bracket (Solid Zinc Alloy Construction, Easy Toolless Installation, Included Spirit Level, Adjustable Height, Wide Compatibility, Aura Sync RGB) ($40.00) Custom: Case mod - front white panel ($30.00) Custom: Case mod - white feet ($10.00) Total: $7383.76 A few notes: I wanted to go with the brand new Samsung 990 pro (PCIe 5.0) SSD, but people on this forum advised against it because apparently it would have to bifurcate the bandwidth of my gfx card. I would get a 1200w + PSU, but I'm really set on this ASUS Rog Thor P2 PSU because it has a cool looking OLED screen and apparently they don't sell the 1200w or 1600w version in the US. I'm still not sure about which memory to go with, but I want Corsair memory so that it will sync with all the other Corsair stuff and this was the best Corsair memory that was listed as officially supported for the ASUS ROG Maximus Hero mobo. I've been strongly considering the LG C2 monitor as an alternative, but I think the ASUS pg42uq will work better for my needs since I have a lot of light in my room. I also like that it has a heatsink. I suppose to be truly "no compromise" I could go with 64GB memory and an even higher end mobo, but it wouldn't really make sense for me since I only do gaming and I'm not overclocking anything.
  15. It's the ASUS ROG Thor P2 Platinum 1000w power supply. Hopefully that's one of the good ones!
  16. Thanks for your response. That's really good to know and it makes me feel better knowing that in the off chance I go over 1000w my gfx card isn't going to get fried or something.
  17. Thanks for the info and your reassurance. You have a good memory, I was going to go with the 13700k, but I just couldn't say no to pairing the best GPU with the best CPU. This PC is only for gaming so I doubt I'll hit 100% CPU and GPU usage very often. I definitely won't be doing any overclocking. My main reason for renewed concern is that this PC is going to have 13 QL 120 fans, the case is the 5000t which has RGB, and the RAM is RGB too. I just learned that all that RGB and fans also take up a considerable amount of wattage too.
  18. Despite being reassured by experts, I'm starting to get really paranoid about my 1000w PSU not being enough to power my RTX 4090 and 13900k (with no overclocking for either). What is the worst that could happen if I go over 1000w usage on a 1000w power supply? Does my PC just shut down or is there a chance that it does serious damage to other components like the graphics card?
  19. With a 13900k and a RTX 4090 it may be replacing my fireplace this winter.
  20. I don't think my PC will get too hot with 13 fans, but I didn't even know SSD's with a heatsink were a thing. Will they fit in the normal PCIe 4 slots on the mobo?
  21. I want to get the Samsung 980 pro and just saw they have a version with a heatsink on it that only costs a little more. Would you recommend it? Does it depend on where I'm mounting it?
  22. I'm not a PC expert or anything, but it seems like it might be a little overkill for a 4k 60hz monitor. The lowest FPS I've seen in any 4k benchmarks for the 4090 has been like 80fps and that was running without any DLSS.
  23. Thanks for the info. Would you mind giving me a link to these adapters that you recommend?
  24. Sorry about that. Should be fixed now. Thanks for trying to help out.
  25. I'm finally putting everything together on PCpartpicker and ran into the following warning notifications: Note: A USB 2.0 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter is required. Note: A USB 3.2 Gen 2 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter is required. You can see where the errors occur here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZsjQgb Can someone please link me to the adapters I will need for this case to fully function? I would really appreciate it. I tried looking it up on Amazon and didn't find anything that mentioned USB 3.2 Gen 1, only USB 3.0.
