  1. Others posting here probably know a lot more than I do, but from my limited understanding this chip just gets really hot unless you go the custom loop route. I read this review a while back: https://www.techspot.com/review/2552-intel-core-i9-13900k/ "The fact that with a quality 360mm AIO installed this thing hits TjMAX in a 21c room, in under 20 seconds, is a bad joke. We also tried the massive Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420mm AIO in the hope that it could tame the 13900K... we think we almost made 20 seconds before hitting TjMAX, so needless to say, that didn't help." I also have a 13900k with 6 fans in push/pull on a Corsair H150i Elite LCD 360mm cooler and it does tend to get hotter than I'm used to (usually high 60s to lower 70s while gaming). In some games like Cyberpunk and MS Flight Sim I've even seen it momentarily spike to 80c which was alarming to me, but I've seen other 13900k users hit nearly the same temps in their benchmark videos.
  2. Happy 10 year anniversary! This forum has been a huge help. I came here 6+ years ago not knowing anything about PC stuff and while I'm still not an expert, I know I can always count on the kind people on this forum.
  3. Sorry for the late response. I might try out DLSS 2, but I'd prefer to get the highest frame rate possible and then just cap it. Occasionally I will go over my monitor refresh rate as I mentioned which is annoying, but the main reason I want to cap it is just because I prefer as stable of a frame rate as possible. From the responses of others it sounds like this just isn't something that is working with DLSS 3 right now, although I did find it helpful to cap frame rate in Nvidia control panel which helps a lot in MS flight simulator (FPS swings from like 70 to 160).
  4. I'm just curious why none of the games DLSS 3.0 will let you cap your framerate. Is it something inherent in this new technology? I play MS flight simulator, Witcher 3 next-gen, Warhammer Darktide, Portal with RTX, etc. and none of them let you cap your framerate. Occasionally I will go over 138 fps and it introduces that annoying screen tearing.
  5. In the Nvidia control panel should I be using the "normal" power management mode or change it to "prefer maximum performance"?
  6. Can anyone recommend some non-shady websites to get 4k (3840x2160) resolution wallpapers? I do have Wallpaper Engine, but that's like 90% anime stuff. I haven't found many wallpapers I like on there. I could have swore Google pictures used to have a resolution filter, but I don't see it anymore. I just don't want to be downloading anything from untrustworthy sites.
  7. I might look into doing that. On a previous build I had a fan curve and it was really annoying to have my fans ramp up all of a sudden because the CPU jumped to like 60c while opening a PDF or something.
  8. I recently built a new gaming PC in the Corsair 5000t and it has 13 fans (3 front intake, 3 side intake, 1 rear outtake, and 6 on the radiator in push/pull configuration). 10 of the fans are Corsair QL fans and 3 (on the top side of the radiator) are ML fans. I currently run all of the fans at a fixed 75% except I have my 6 radiator fans set to the "performance" preset in the Corsair iCUE software. I'm wondering if I should be running at all these fans at the same speed or at different speeds? If different, what percentage would you recommend for each of the fans? For instance, would it be better airflow to have my 1 rear outtake at 100% and my 3 front and 3 side fans set to 50%? Any input would be appreciated.
  9. As always, thanks for your detailed response. I just looked at it again and apparently there are 7 different temperature sensors for the motherboard. Would it make sense for all of them to be reading the VRM temp? I had only been looking at #1. I'm not sure if there's a specific one I should be looking at.
  10. I never monitored my motherboard temps until just recently throuch iCUE. I assume the motherboard temp just gives a good indicator of the ambient temps in the case. So far I think the highest I've seen it get to was around 36 when I had my door closed and my room was getting warm due to heating. Is that pretty safe?
  11. Thanks for the detailed response. I guess it sounds like DLAA would be better visually or maybe even one of the other options like TAA or MSAA. I'm just trying to run the highest possible graphics settings and I never had these options before since I didn't own an RTX card before. I watched this Linus vid about DLDSR (which I assume is the same as "Nvidia DLSS AI Super Resolution") and it seemed like it made things look better while also increasing FPS, but it does sound off putting that it's not really running at native resolution.
  12. I'm playing Forza Horizon 5 and there's an option for Nvidia DLSS AI Super Resolution or Nvidia DLAA. If I enable one, it disables the other. I'm wondering which one is better visually? Which do you prefer?
  13. Thanks for your detailed response. For example, the CPU Load while playing a game is usually 1-3% but I have seen it jump momentarily to 15-18% when first starting a game. In contrast, the CPU usage is around 40-50%. When just doing stuff on the internet the load is constantly at 1% and the CPU utilization is 5-9%. It still seems strange to me.
  14. This might be a dumb question, but are "CPU Load" and "CPU Utilization" the same thing? It appears they are different because the graph in Corsair iCUE for CPU Load is usually around 1-5% but when I check CPU Utilization in the task manager it's much higher.
  15. I'm not sure how to do that and I'd hate to mess things up. I also wouldn't want to do it if I lose much performance. The issue is really only apparent in Cyberpunk. In all the many other games I play the highest temp I've seen is about 65c. Even in Cyberpunk it's not like it stays at 85c for any more than a second. That said, if I start seeing it become a larger issue I will consider looking into undervolting the CPU. Thanks for the suggestion.
  16. I just noticed that I seem to get considerably higher CPU temperature jumps than other 13900k users. For instance, in Cyberpunk (the most CPU intensive game I've played so far) it ranges from about 67c low to 74c average to 85c high. I have a 360mm H150i Elite in push/pull config so the only cause I can think of is maybe the Arctic thermal paste wasn't properly applied? Anyways, I know this CPU runs hot, but I'm just wondering if this is safe for the CPU to be momentarily jumping to 85c or if it's potentially problematic.
  17. Thanks so much! I really appreciate the help. That flashing light was really starting to bug me.
  18. Hey, sorry to bother you, but would you mind checking what that option is and where to find it in the bios? It would be a huge help. I went through pretty much every setting in the bios and I couldn't find anything that seems like it would disable it.
  19. There's this blinking yellow light on the bottom right of my motherboard and I'm wondering if there's any way to disable it. My old motherboard had this too and it's kinda annoying. The motherboard is an ASUS Z790 Hero.
  20. On my last motherboard I went 6 years without ever updating the bios and I had no issues. I recently upgraded to an ASUS Z790 Hero and someone over at Corsair recommended I update it even though I have no issues. There's only been 1 update since I got this mobo and the description is found here: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-maximus/rog-maximus-z790-hero-model/helpdesk_bios/ If it was as simple as just downloading and running an .exe I would totally do it, but it seems complicated and I'm worried I could possibly mess things up. I guess I'm wondering if it's really necessary. Is regularly updating the bios of your mobo something that you do each time a new version comes out?
  21. Looking to find some people who might be interested in playing the new Warhammer 40k Darktide which just came out today. I've been playing the beta a bit the past couple days and my highest character is a lvl 7 Psyker right now. I'm an old guy (mid 30s) and I'm usually on late from around 9pm to 1am PST.
  22. I have an ASUS graphics card and I tried using GPU Tweak III, but I can't seem to get it to display my FPS, GPU usage, clock speed, etc. while in game. Can anyone recommend me a good OSD to download that will work? The more stats it has, the better.
  23. Thanks for the info. I do see that in the Corsair iCUE software so I'll use that.
