  1. @ZM Fong There's a review of another Acer Aspire 5 from notebookcheck.net, but with an i7-8550U instead, which I think has the same power consumption as the i5-8250U. Still, Acer is using the same 65 W adapter and the laptop consumes and average of 64 W under full load, reaching 66.4 W at most. Acer Aspire 5 Review
  2. @ZM Fong True, but I still think you've got nothing to worry about. Come on, Acer isn't that dumb to supply you with a charger which supplies less wattage than the laptop needs, or are they? As long as you don't stress test, it should be technically fine.
  3. @ZM Fong is it the Acer Aspire 5? If so, then the 65 W charger will hold up against normal and heavy usage, but on cases like stress tests, the laptop will consume slightly more power than it receives. I found out about this after reading the review on notebookcheck.net, screenshots below:
  4. I get your point. However, is USB Type-C, Sony's colour sensor and a bigger battery worth the extra ~50 USD in your opinion?
  5. I'll cut to the chase. I'm convincing my mom to switch to Android since she needs a new smartphone (she's currently on an ancient iPhone 4). Currently, she's considering getting the iPhone 6S. However, she's a little worried after I told her the news about Apple gimping their smartphones all in the name of preserving battery life. After a few hours of searching, I found a couple of Sony's former flagships which are pretty cheap now. They share a lot in common, most notably the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, 64 GB of storage, IP68 water and dust resistance and that classic rectangular Sony design. Here are their prices along with a screenshot of their specifications: 1. Xperia X Performance - 1319 MYR (323 USD) 2. Xperia XZ - 1599 MYR (392 USD) 3. Xperia XZs - 1759 MYR (431 USD) Also, is the XZs worth the extra money compared to the XZ and the X Performance? I am not keen to spend for extra features unless it is definitely worth it.
  6. I'll definitely upgrade The RAM to 8 GB but I probably won't get an SSD upgrade due to their high price. Man, do you remember the times you could get a 120 GB SSD from just RM 130? Now they're all beyond RM 200!
  7. Yes, I can and I will upgrade it to 8 GB if I get it.
  8. I'll cut to the chase. Is this laptop, the Acer Aspire 5, worth its 2319 MYR (565 USD) price tag? CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U @ up to 3.4 GHz RAM: 4 GB DDR4 @ 2133 MHz GPU: Nvidia MX150 2 GB GDDR5 HDD: 1 TB HDD @ 5400 RPM Screen: Acer ComfyView 15.6" 1080p display OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit Ports: 3x USB Type-A, 2x 2.0, 1x 3.0 1x USB Type C, 3.1 1x HDMI port 1x Ethernet port 1x SD card slot 1x Headphone jack Weight: 2.1 kg Dimensions: (mm) 21.6 (h) x 381.6 (w) x 259 (d) Battery: 48 Wh, 3220 mAh Lithium-Ion, 15.2 V Materials: Plastic, Brushed metal Some pics from UltrabookReview: (exterior colour is grey)
  9. What I meant was how much it costs the manufacturer of a phone to get their devices tested and get them certified (if they pass).
  10. Many recent mobile flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, LG V30, iPhone X, HTC U11 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium and share one thing in common. They have an IP (Ingress Protection) rating. A quick Google search would reveal what each of the numbers stand for in their respective ratings. One other thing which also comes to mind when you hear the name of these flagships is their high price. Part of the reason why they are expensive is the cost to obtain an IP rating. So, really, how much does it cost to get an IP rating?
  11. I use a larger, 18" 768p monitor if I get the laptop with the 14" 768p display. However, if I get the 15.6" 1080p one, I'll ditch my external monitor. I will play games on it but the monitor I play on varies as I've mentioned above.
  12. If you had to choose, which would you get? Please vote in the poll above.
  13. @Jurrunio Both cost around 2400 MYR, around 580 USD.
  14. I'll cut to the chase. I'm comparing 2 laptops which are extremely similar but one has better performance while the other has better build quality. Let's assume they are of the same price. Here they are: 1. Acer Aspire E14 E5-476G-54G4 + i5-8250U, 4 cores, 8 threads - 768p resolution - Smaller, 14" screen 2. Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-54RN + Larger, 15.6" screen + 1080p resolution + Good build quality - i5-7200U, 2 cores, 4 threads So, which of the 2 should I get? I can't decide which to prioritize. Inner or outer beauty? What do you guys think? Please elaborate on your choice. Thanks!
  15. That's mainly what I'm comparing. The looks. I can't decide which one looks nicer. In terms of screen protection, both have and advertise a pretty tall lip around the border of the screen, which gives my some confidence of screen protection if the phone ever goes face-first to the floor.
  16. The 2 cases I've listed cost 26 MYR each, which is approximately 6 USD. Free shipping.
  17. I would get a skin, but hell, it's really expensive.
  18. I want to get a case for my OnePlus 5. I've got 2 choices listed in the topic below. Please vote. Reasons given for choosing a particular case is highly appreciated. Thanks!
  19. I'd like to get a case for my OnePlus 5 and here are 2 options which I've found on my local online store. Have a look and tell tell me which one you prefer by voting. They are of equal price. Thanks! CASE 1 CASE 2
  20. I'm in the market for a cheap entry level gaming laptop and I've stumbled across Acer's new Aspire 5 laptop. The thing is, this laptop originally came with an Nvidia MX150 GPU and an i5-7200U. Now, they have released the exact same laptop with only 1 change - the i5-8250U. So, the one with the 8250U costs 157 MYR (38 USD) more than the one with the 7200U. In USD, it doesn't seem a lot but in my currency it's quite a sum of money. So, I'm not willing to fork out the extra cash if the benefits aren't very great. Is the new I5-8250U with 2 extra cores and 2 MB of extra cache worth the price increase? Thanks!
  21. I need a new back cover for my OnePlus 5 since it got scuffed up a little. Any update on witrigs? Thanks! ?
  22. 3 hours is the lowest it can go. I can get real time readings from CPU-Z, though.
  23. Nevermind, brought it down to 1. Same result..
