    Sheldon_King got a reaction from SCHISCHKA in Fallout 4: Do I need to have played last games?
    Fallout 1+2 are the only ones that on a technicality continue the story. 3, New vegas, 4, and BOS, all were independant stories.  Myself, I would say it is Much better if you have not played the older ones first, as they are much better games imo (and real RPGs, vs role play as shooter in 4).

    @oskarha  I would guess the driver support would depend on how we are qualifying the word support. In my experience HP has been willing to support New OS/Driver versions far longer than dell ever has (my DM3, which is a most basic entry level laptop, got qualified drivers from them for windows XP all the way to 10 (and 10 on release day)).
    Thanks for the link to the Tech document. It told me something I had not even realized yet, the Dell has a SATA III port onboard, more speed from SSD, better performance, and 4 dimm slots. It really is a better system than I thought.

    YOu are lucky since you have the CD still (as it is impossible to download a genuine windows 7 iso  now, as Microsoft shut down the servers). YOu will need to use MagicJelleyBean to extract your current key from the installed copy, and use that during the install.

    iirc, AGP was built from the original PCI bus, so unlikely that it could be adapted (easily) to PCIe. YOu can likely find one on Ebay if you look for one, but the performance would be bad, even for 1998 standards, and you are unlikely to find drivers for it for anything beyond 98SE/ME or maybe NT3/NT4/2K.

    I wish network providers here would adopt that pricing.

    A certain Cable Company, Guilford county, NC, USA.

    Pay for: 30 down 5 up  unlimited data, with cable and phone we pay just over $150/m (but without teh cable and phone, the internet cost $59.99 for 6 months).

    Actually receive:
    45 down (average), 6 up (average) ping 20-100ms (depending on service and server being accessed).

    Sheldon_King got a reaction from Mbarton in copying data through LAN?
    It can be accomplished with a switch, but one of the computers has to be set up as the router, which with Linux it is not that difficult to pull off. The switch then becomes just a switch again, connecting teh cables together like a bridge.

    (I know this works, as it is how I have my systems set up. Just using teh desktop as a router and the switch to connect normal patch cables to the systems needing data).

    Well, you can easily just mount a hard drive over the network in both Linux and Windows, so that would be what I would do (assuming he has hardware to make it happen).  OSx, I find to be a pain in the arse for things like this (networking in general), but that is for a different thread/forum.

    Not directly through a cable that you probably already own. It is possible through one of 2 ways:

    1. PC1 -> cable -> switch/router -> cable -> PC2
    2. PC1 -> crossover cable -> PC2

    If you do not have a crossover cable, you need to put a router or switch between the two PCs as the DATA and Recieve lines of teh RJ45 have to be switched (reversed) to allow both units to speak properly. Wither either setup, you can directly access data on either PC using networked drives in Windows or Linux (unsure of OSx).

    The first one (all open windows) is built into all windows NT versions (at least 2000 up to 8.1). Just hit Alt+Tab and it will show you a list of open windows.

    Dragging windows to different monitors (physical) is easy, just drag the window to the monitor you want it on. Basic feature of windows there.

    VDT... There may be other ways, but Nvidia has nView that does a really nice job (it is what I use, but I am using Quadros, so may not be on consumer cards...)

    As said, Not Guaranteed and Definitely not supported (Adobe will tell you to use a supported GPU).   Stick to the list to ensure the product works properly.

    When offline (computer connected to no network (internal or WAN), it (on at least BF3) results in a Error 404 using Firefox and Battlelog. Did it change after BF3 (tested yesterday)? Maybe. Will that make me trust Battlefield, EA, or DICE? Hell no. Not buying their games again, and definitely not with multiplayer only (as it is likely not going to even attempt to emulate a singleplayer with bots).

    The more that is released and leaked about BattleFront 3, the less I am impressed. If it runs and has a game, it would be surprising at this point.

    I think YOU are missing the entire point. Not everyone has internet. Not everyone wants to pay Microsoft for the ability to play online (xbox Live). Not eveyone has internet that is fast enough to play online, or even have the ping to make it realistic to play online. In this area of the country the average internet speed is around 1Mbps down and 512Kbps up with 200 ish ms pings, if you are not fortunate enough to pay Time Warner $75 a month for the 10Mbps package.

    Offline play is still a necessity, and believeing otherwise makes one sound (and look) like an entitled ass.

    the fist thing I would say is look away from any product that says ROG (Republic of Gamers) or Gamer in the name. You will be paying a premium for the "advanced features" that include a red colour scheme, and one or 2 extra VRM that will not help with a locked CPU like the 4771 you have.

    That said, Look at H97 or H87 boards, or low end Z97/Z87 to avoid having a bunch of featurs that you will not need or be able to use.

    The RAM, do you really need an upgrade? Are you rutinely hitting 100% RAM usage? If not, you are wasting money there too. That said, 24GB hits are not available anymore, they were tripple channel kits. You can make a 24GB kit by running Dual channel with 2x8GB and 2x4GB, but over 16GB the average person will not see any difference for a long time. Actually, most perople will never need 8GB for a long while yet.
