    That's a good point...

What about a small USB hub on a short 3ft cable so you could stick it underneath your desk at the front?
That would eliminate the need for front IO, no?

For me, having a front I/O, or not, depends on where the computer is placed.
In reference to pictures A & B, having a front I/O would be useful/more accessible.
In reference to what I have, my keyboard has a USB port that's connected to the back I/O, so I don't use the front I/O unless I want to utilize USB 3.0 when backing-up my files on an external hard drive.

Nope - I still require front IO. Dongles are certainly an option, but I don't feel I should have to deal with them, nor foot their cost on either a laptop or desktop system. I buy things that meet my functional needs first and foremost, considering aesthetics second. If a case doesn't have front IO or laptop doesn't have the ports I need, I won't buy it.

On my PC? Yes. Yes to front I/O.
    I added a 5.25" to 3.5" front bay adapter + 2 USB3 ports for this reason - 6 front USB > 4 (and yes, I still run out sometimes).
On your case though? No, it's not designed to be a big chonky box that sits on the ground and makes it annoying to reach around to the back.

I'm another one who disagree with you on the front I/O. Those are Strongly Needed.

I'd be ok with a case that had a fold-down tray that I could set USB drives on after I plug them in--given how short most of the cords are for external drives.

I couldn't pick "none" for the second question.

I don't want front I/O.  I do want the rear I/O to double as a USB hub and HDMI/DP hub.  I also want the rear I/O to have 4-6 USB-C jacks.  And ideally, the USB jacks will be at the top of the back of the case, or back of the top of the case.  Could probably even build it so that the USB panel pivots 90 degrees so it can face the back or the top of the case--depending on user preference.

If I need to plug in an external device, I'd rather have a remote hub or something that I can freely locate elsewhere.  Front I/O is really only useful if you have the tower on the desktop, or immediately under the desk.  If you want to locate it off to the side, in a closet, or something else--Front I/O is just as inconvenient as Back I/O; you still have to get up to use it.  And since mine is on an end table behind my desk, there's just no point.  I'd rather just have a USB-C hub on my desk.

I'd remove them on my personal machine mainly for not having to deal with those tiny cables.. (Big hands, big problems)

I also do not use front IO much personally, but I do know people that do.

Front IO every day all the way.

There's nothing worse than trying to blindly stick a device in the back IO and/or having to get up from your chair to do so.

It's mainly a convenience thing for me. I could always connect all of those empty USB ports I have at the back to a fancy USB/Headphone jack hub integrated into my desk like this:

Maybe once I get a desk that isn't frankensteined together and have something like this, then I can say goodbye to front I/O on cases.

This is the mini PC I have been working on for a while, someone mentioned they wouldn't want one because it has no front IO.
I'm considering adding front IO to future PCs.
    What do you guys think?

    A: With no front IO

B: with front IO (just an example, could be USB C or other)

I think the only USB C device I have that has a USB C for the PC is my wireless dongle for my Steelseries Prime Wireless mouse. Otherwise everything is still Type A. Only time I think I use my Front IO is with thumb drives quickly or hooking up a docking station to test hard drives, which is very very infrequent. I could do without Front IO ports overall honestly.

    Thanks for the feedback 🙂
That was my though when designing this, it's small enough to just reach around or pick up and turn it to plug stuff in.

I have the power button on the back currently, and it's quite easy to reach without looking at it or moving the PC 🙂

Big vents at the back, plus it's only a 15W CPU so temps are below 80C.

    Thta's a cool idea 🙂
A little complex but worth considering

I personally use the Front IO on my system very frequently. If I however happened to obtain a case where this wasn't present, I would personally just mount a USB hub under my desk.
If I had the choice between the 2 Cases you have shown, I would pick the one without.

Regardless of the case design, I rarely use front io.  However, I need front io for the ports.  I hate hubs because they're just another loose part and half the time don't work well.

I also need to have ports on my laptop, tablet and phone.  Again, most of the time it's wireless but there are just times I need it.

I also keep my pc sideways, to the right of the monitor so I can access the rear io easily.  It also puts the glass panel in full view, it's the best side to look at.

This is just my opinion but I think the idea of having to choose between aesthetics and functionality is a bit far fetched.

The example you are showing is of a very tiny PC - not unlike one Intel's NUCs or any other system in that form factor. I have a lot of experience with such devices and while I am certain that there are plenty of consumers that find them attractive, 100% of the NUCs I have installed for clients were done in schools, who use them not because they are aesthetically pleasing, but because their tiny form factor means they can be tucked away either behind the display (VESA mounts) or mounted under a desk. This helps them stay outside the reach of young children, and prevents accidental drops.

I think this all comes down to how you use your tiny PC. If your system is "out of sight and out of mind" than your IO is probably fixed and isn't going to be used much. If your system sits on your desk at all, regardless of how it looks, you're likely to interact with it and its IO.

It could be a laser cut rectangle centered at the bottom ... add some mechanism, for example push button (like on ball point pens) ... you press on the wood rectangle and it clicks out giving you access to the usb ports.
Or instead of push button action , push and slide into a hidden compartment, slide and release to close.

a headphone jack and a power button would be optimal, maybe even throw in a usb c port since most mobos dont have them,

I think this is a rather strange poll.

I use the front I/O regularly and most of the time it's for USB flash drives or external harddrives.
That makes my answers for the 1. and 2. question rather obvious.

But even tho I use it so frequently, I'd still say that I'd prefer to not have any front I/O if I wanted to buy your particular case.
Your case is clearly meant to look clean and simple, which is why front I/O would destroy that look. It is also quite small and therefor I could probably just turn the case around and access its I/O that way.

And that is why I think this poll is rather strange:
Yes I would want to have front I/O, but not on your case.

Edit: If you decide to put fron't I/O into that little box, put it at the top. Makes it easier to plug and unplug stuff with one hand, cause then you've got a surface to push against.
