Will overclocking my GTX 660 fix my gaming problems?
Kevin11 replied to Kevin11's topic in Graphics Cards
do you know if there's anything else that can fix my problem? or which thread i should post in? i am at a complete loss, drivers don't seem to be doing it -
So long story short, I installed a new mobo and cpu but I'm still using my old gtx 660, nothing was easy and the entire process of having my old computer to my working new computer took around 20 hours, no joke. Anyways, I have finally, finally got everything working... except for one thing. Whenever I try to game the sound gets garbled and eventually goes out and I have a huge loss in FPS. I am playing the same games in the same settings that I did with my old bad AMD FX 6350 and the same GPU, but now that I am using an i7 6700k I just can't play the games at all, and the sound is always the first to fuck up. I have all of the latest drivers downloaded and idk what to try at this point. Is there somehow a bottleneck at the GPU now that the processor is so strong? Would overclocking the 660 maybe fix the problem? The 660 doesn't even get hot now, whereas it would get pretty hot before when I actually had FPS

well one bracket is 2 to 2 but the other bracket is 2 screws to 1 screw, in the pictures of others it's the same situation, 4 screws into case and 3 screws into radiator, and only in the middle, it is safe to support the radiator from only the center?
-
Hey so I found the mounting brackets and a few pics of how they are used. So 3-4 screws are enough to hold the radiator in place? it is safe to do?

I think that's only with the newer models, I have the original model

I bought an h100i v2 with 2 120mm fan radiator with my i7 6700k only to find out there is no place for it to fit in my case so now I need to buy a new case, any suggestions? I am using the sabertooth z170 S motherboard

If I used an HDD backup storage device, will accessing files from it be noticeably slower than normal performance speed when using the SSD? If you are trying to have a PC for show and to create strong impressions on people, is it better to just avoid using an HDD altogether? Can using an HDD ever slow performance when files on the HDD are not being directly accessed?

I have this problem whenever I try to download the newest update, so right now I'm chilling on the old update -
If the CPU usage drops at the same time the FPS drops it could be the GPU acting funny

To be honest with you, I'm using a i7 6700k but I'm still on a GTX 660 gpu. The way I see it, it's better to save up as much as you can and get something really good instead of trying to get something decent because you're too impatient to wait. Once Christmas time rolls around and black friday deals come out, I'll be keeping a close eye on the gpu sales. I am either going to get a 1070 or a 1080, although this 660 does surprisingly well for me lol. Granted I only play games like starcraft two and elder scrolls oblivion, but I can play with full settings no problem and I even can turn on all of the graphical mods for oblivion and still my GTX 660 keeps FPS at 60 in max settings, very impressive -
can i not trust speccy to give accurate temp results?

Maybe with medium settings. 1440p is pushing it -
Use a program to watch the temp of your GPU, it may just be getting too hot, in which case you may need better cooling
