  1. the nas would be used for plex streaming for about 3-4 users and backups for myself. I was thinking of freenas or unraid for os. maybe virtualize a render farm in windows at a later date. So I was leaning towards one of their more expensive Xeon computers.

  3. it'd be a whole system for around 200.
  4. So I have been wanting a nas for a long time, but I have been unemployed for too long. however, I have a job now, so I've been looking into it again. I was thinking about buying an old used pc and making it a nas. We have a goodwill electronics store near me, similar to free geek in LTT but much smaller, and when i went there, i saw they had quite a few intel core 2 quads and some old i3's like i3 2000 series. but they had a few older xeons. I was wondering what people thought about maybe picking up one of the i3's or xeons and making a nas out of them. they are roughly $150-$200.
  5. thank you for the help. Ill be picking up a UPS tomorrow.
  6. Hey everyone, So I've been thinking of getting a UPS for a while, but I didn't know where to start. Basically, I've been delaying it. However, I live in a old house, and I've notice its age in its power delivery in the house. For example, I've noticed if the AC or furnace starts up the whole houses lights flicker. I wanted to get a UPS to regulate the power to my pc and not put it under that stress. I was thinking of this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842102048 but I didn't know if i needed one that big. I would have my pc, monitor, modem, and router connected to the battery. it is a 24 in monitor and the pc I'm most worried about. PC specs, i7 4790k gigabyte gaming 7 mobo GTX 970 1 ssd 2 hard drives 16gb ram 750 W power supply that obviously isnt being pushed to its max Any feedback would be appreciated, Thanks
  7. That is another example of a unit he could review. I know they exist and everything, but I wanted to see them do a review of it as a full on car replacer. I don't have funds to spend on a risk, and I trust their reviews more than most.
  8. Does he? Well I'm sure he, or whoever else they pick for the review, could still do a great job in reviewing it.
  9. I have been looking into the idea of getting rid of the need of a car, but in cities like mine, that isn't so easy. Now they have reviewed electric forms of transport before, notably the electric skateboard and the flykly scooter, but neither of those could be good replacements to me. So what I think would be great is if they had Taran review an electric bike kit. Taran because he doesn't rely on a car as it is, so his review would be very thorough, and his flykly review shows him reviewing it as a form of transportation. I would love to see Taran do a review of a kit, but what does everyone else think? P.S. I was thinking a kit like this: http://lunacycle.com/motors-and-kits/hub-motor-kits/golden-motor-v5-magic-pie-complete-kit/ or something similar.
  10. i found it to be the CAM computer monitor software that tech of tomorrow suggested. I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't agree with my computers. I just uninstalled it and it worked fine.
  11. little update. The ram test didn't return anything, and starcraft 2 crashing instead of just freezing
  12. Hello everyone, I am having an issue with my games. When I open many of my games, they freeze when I open the games. They will continue to play the games sound and everything, but will freeze on one of the loading images before the menu. I have tested the witcher 2, Path of exile, borderland 2 and pre-sequel, and a few more on both my laptop and desktop. It does the same thing on both systems. Desktop: i7 4790k no oc gtx 970 asus no oc 16 GB of g-skill ram (that i am currently using memtest on but i dont think it is amounting to anything) gigabyte gaming 7 motherboard windows 10 laptop: asus n56j 17 4710HQ 8 GB of ram gtx 840m windows 10
  13. I am having that issue to. I believe it is a driver issue as well
  14. I was having my games freeze on my desktop. So I did a fresh install of windows 10 and it is still happening. I was thinking it was my video card, but I then tried opening the same games on my laptop and they froze the same way. I think it might be the drivers for my GPU, so I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with the Nvidia 365.10 drivers? Specs (desktop): i7 4790k (not overclocked) asus gtx 970 16 GB of ram Windows 10 specs (laptop): quad core i7 gtx 840m 8 GB of ram windows 10
  15. Well I completely did a fresh install of windows 10, so i had to reinstall my graphics drivers. Does that count?
