  1. I'll check the memory modules when doing the build. I take it if I'm not sure, I could just stick the memory modules in and see if they're detected?
  2. Oh, I thought ECC memory was generally better for that sort of use. Can you elaborate?
  3. Aww, well there goes that idea! I'll have to look into getting some DDR3 non-ecc memory. Thanks for the quick reply.
  4. As the title suggests, I have an i7 3770 CPU and some ECC memory modules and I want to build a basic home server/PC system to be used solely for backup storage, archive storage and media serving to various devices on the home network. Ive tried looking for 1155 motherboards which support ECC memory, but there doesn't seem to be much. There are the 1155 Xeon motherboards which support ECC, but I'm not sure they'd support the i7 3770. Can anyone advise or help?
  5. So a bit of experimenting done last night. 2 out of the 3 DisplayPort ports give the artifacts, 1 of the ports seems to be fine. Played all evening and cant say I noticed one flash across the screen. Weirdly the port furthest from the 'good' port is the worst, the middle one is better but still has artifacts, then the other one, as I said, seems good. I have no idea what's going on. When I said before that the 'Response Time' setting seems to affect things, I think I was wrong. It may have been as I was trying the other DisplayPort at the time. It seems that it's associated with the DisplayPort's, not the monitors 'Response Time' setting. I found this post regarding clicking sounds from a card - https://community.topazlabs.com/t/asus-tuf-nvidia-3080-clicking-noise-fixed-through-rma/23645
  6. No, nothing obvious anyway. It just continuously clicks like that while gaming. When I go out to desktop, no clicks.
  7. So I tried with a different monitor (ultrawide, G-SYNC compatible, max 100Hz)... didn't see the flashes across the screen. So then I tried the DisplayPort in the 2nd from top port on card, it seemed to improve it, but it's hard to tell, as it's not always consistent. Sometimes its a lot worse than other times. I'll need to experiment more when I have more time. I also tried adjusting the 'Response Time' settings of my LG UltraGear 34GN850 monitor, which again seemed to help, but I'll need to test this more to really see if there's improvements. I thought I'd get a recording of the ticking/clicking sound coming from the graphics card, also. What do you make of this? Is this normal? There is quite loud coil whine from the card too.
  8. Sorry, I must've missed your comment earlier. Yes, have tried a good few driver versions. I used DDU to uninstall a couple of times too. No difference. The Nvidia forums do have a lot of people having issues with these recent drivers, but there are people suggesting older (like quite a bit older) drivers to go back to that are meant to be good, but I don't think they'd work with the 3080Ti as those drivers are older than the 3080Ti.
  9. Will do. Think I can get my hands on another ultrawide monitor too which I'm going to try. Pain in the hoop all this. Most expensive graphics card I've bought by a good amount and by far the most hassle. Thank you for your help and suggestions, though. Greatly appreciated.
  10. I've not done a huge amount of trying different ports etc. Can HDMI handle ultrawide resolutions and high Hz? The other thing I forgot to mention is the last couple of times I've been troubleshooting I've been at the computer without my headphones on and when gaming, there's an audible ticking/clicking sound coming from the computer and I'm pretty sure it's the GFX card (I never heard it with my old card) and it seems to stop when I exit from games and go to desktop, so it seems like it's related to extra work being done by the GFX card. It's also not the fans as they're still spinning when not gaming and card is cooling down but the ticking/clicking stops.
  11. So playing on the small display creates flickering on the bigger one but the small one is fine? Seemingly so, yes. I didn't play for a long time on the smaller screen, but after there was a few flashes across the main screen and I didn't notice them on the small screen I thought that was odd enough behaviour to note. Also, when on main display and I tab out to desktop and the game is still running in the background, then flickers will happen across the desktop. Have you tried using a different port on your GPU for the main display? Pretty sure I've tried, but I will try again. I'm losing track of all the things I've tried lol What happens if you disable G-Sync on the main display? Pretty sure this was one of the first things I tried and the issue was still there. But I will retest.
  12. What are your Hotspot and VRAM temps on that GPU? Since 82C on the GPU at 60% usage is pretty high. The highest VRAM temp I've seen was 102-103C and that was after a session on Star Citizen. In Sea of Thieves it was in the 90s. Hotspot is usually around 80-90C from memory. I was more concerned and focused on the VRAM temps, but from what I've seen online, it's pretty normal for these cards, although I wouldn't really describe it as normal tbh. Have you tried running it on the small screen? Yeah. The flickers still happen on the main display. Didn't see any on the smaller screen. It's a basic monitor though, 60Hz, no G-SYNC/G-SYNC compatibility etc What are your windows power settings? The max performance one. Have you tried using "prefer maximum performance" in the Nvidia Control panel to see if that changes something? No, I haven't tried that. I'll give it a try the next time I'm on. Does it only happen in Sea of Thieves? No, it happens in Star Citizen and Assassin's Creed Odyssey, also. I haven't really played any other games to see if it's happening in them, but these are the recent games I've played and its happening in them. I just record with Sea of Thieves as it's the easiest game to record 1 handed with the GoPro lol Have you tried running your screen on 144Hz instead of using the OC to 160Hz? Yes. Still get the artifacts. Also lowered the frame cap in game to 120 so as not to potentially run into issues with G-SYNC due to refresh rate and frame cap being so close. Like I said these white pixelated lines don't look so good. Yeah, only time I've seen anything like that before is when there was a hardware failure. I just want to try and explore literally everything before, potentially, going down the RMA route, as having to potentially wait for replacement, change cards, only to find the problem is still there would be pretty demoralising. I'm just starting to lose patience with it. I've spent money on a new DisplayPort cable and a PSU which I didn't need, and also added more RAM to my system (16 - 32GB) which I was planning on doing at some point, but thought I might as well try that now and see if there was somehow, however unlikely, that there was something going on with the system RAM struggling to keep up with the 3080Ti. It's costing me a fortune! lol
  13. So I got a 1000W PSU as I was really hopeful that this was maybe the issue, but having installed it, I'm still getting the artifacts. I've been in touch with Nvidia support and they have been asking me to try various things, the most recent was to record the issues with MSI Afterburner overlay on, which is in the video below. Really at a loss here!
  14. Yeah, 2 seperate cables going to the PSU. My system isn't a hefty machine tbf (couple of nvme's, 1 SSD, 1 2.5' HDD, and have seen people with 3090s and 750W having no issues. What would be best for monitoring? I kinda thought the white pixelated strips look like something that would happen with a dodgy GPU, like RAM issues or something. I just thought I'd research potential issues myself before contacting Nvidia for their view.
