A few weeks ago I posited a thread looking to get some advice on a system to build up based around a Ryzen 5 3600 and an iBuypower case (The Element Reflect from what I found today actually.)
As I've just gotten the new motherboard for this project in, I figure it's time to keep a build log, what better place?
Now my greatest experience with pc's before now was cobbling old Dells together like some some kind of Frankenstein's cyborg.
This will be my first pc built up from mostly new parts

The case, cpu, and psu were payment for getting a computer working for a friend, the motherboard ate it unfortunately but that's the good thing about pcs, just get another one!

The motherboard posted once, and I was at least able to confirm the cpu was working. (This cpu is dead and no longer a part of this build)

The case seems solid, though I can't say the same for airflow, but I can deal with that.

Which brings me around to today, I've got the parts I DO have together and plan on doing a test post of the system later today or tomorrow after I borrow two stick of ram from my current pc.

    Parts list on hand.
    CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
MB - MSI B550 Mag Tomahawk
    Boot ssd - Crucial P2 250gb NVMe M.2 ssd
    Case - iBuypower Element Reflect
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
GPU - (for video output testing only) BTO GT 1030
Mass Storage - 1tb WD Blue sata HDD (Main file starage) / 4tb Seagate Barracuda sata HDD (Game drive) / 4tb Seagate Barracuda 2.5" sata HDD (Backup storage / Migratory files)

    Newly Acquired parts
    Ram - Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) C16

    The missing parts.
Ram - Going to try to find something of the rgb flavor, preferably a 4x8 kit.
Boot Drive - Found a few good 250gb m.2 ssd's, I know I could get a 1-2tb one but that costa more and this is my point of sacrifice since I have 5tb of mechanical storage.
GPU - This will be the last piece of the puzzle probably a near the end of the year kind of thing.
I intend to use my 1050 as a more useful temporary card over the 1030 I have already.
Chassis fans - Really just looking for decent brand with rgb.

    dead parts
    CPU - Ryzen 5 3600 RIP

I intend to post progress whenever it's made, some of it may come slow, but it will come, finally, my own build, time to brew some hot bean juice...

Yeah, that's not going to last if it still works even.
I get it if it was busted and you just wanted to get a look inside, but if you're going to use it, the last thing you should do is open it.

Blue Shift was one of the expansions for classic Half Life and as the expansions were named based of some kind of fitting scientific term, such as Decay, or Opposing force.

A definition of the term blueshift in relation to the sciences, found on google
"The term "blueshift" refers to the shift in wavelengths of light toward the blue end of the spectrum as an object moves toward us in space. Astronomers use blueshift to understand motions of galaxies toward each other and toward our region of space."

I'm guessing it was a good candidate for the expansion name since you play as a security guard, who's uniforms are blue.

    Doom 3 is overhated.
Half Life: Blue Shift is underrated.

I'll admit I only properly clean my machines including consoles maybe once a year, and while the dust get's thick, I've never had anything fry or damage stuff from dust and dog hair build up.
If It seems my machine gets hotter than it should, I'll clean it then.
Do it every couple of months if you want to keep things looking pretty and keep in mind stuff mentioned in the earlier posts regarding your own environment and unique dust situations.

Never had the money fully enjoy a new AAA maxed out game, yes, my current setup is the most capable one I've had yet, but I'm not looking to spend nearly the whole cost of my pc or more on just a gpu, I don't have the money to do that, yeah, I could save up, but then I'd still need all the other bits, I'm not waiting months to play Black Mesa's Xen after waiting this long already just for fps over 40-50 when I could just nudge a few settings for things I don't care about and get nice smoothness 95% of the time.
So for me, consoles are a more cost effective way to play new games, but since there are very few modern titles I want to actually play on ANY platform, my pc is plenty capable.
I'd say exclusives but since Halo Reach and eventually Halo 2 Anniversary are coming to Steam, that argument for me is now null.

Saturday was a good test and a great opportunity to practice calmness and existing among a myriad of distractions. Went to the local dog park where they were holding a "mutt masquerade" event. Plenty of yappy little dogs trying to get to them, lol (which Olivia usually doesn't tolerate well and becomes reactive towards), but these two were super laid back. It's interesting to watch Olivia actually turn her face away from other dogs barking very close to her now. She's learned to choose to ignore and avoid, rather than choosing to "get involved" lol.

I run all games at 1080p (native res) and tweak settings from there, though most of my AAA library isn't all that new.

NMS runs on a med-low mix though from what I understand that game has some performance issues in the first place even on consoles so I typically get 35 to 80 fps.

Skyrim I do mixed high-med with med-high LOD settings and I get a buttery 60 with a drop of three or four frames once in a while though I can still get playable fps in most areas on ultra.

BeamNG.Drive isn't all that new or even full release but it is very cpu heavy, I can usually spawn four cars at once, seven or more cars tank the fps though.

Fallout 4 is ify, weird performance, sometimes it's a smooth 60 and then I go to Diamond City and see drops in the 10's

Fallout 3 and NV default to ultra and I haven't seen any performance issues.

ES Oblivion also defaults to ultra and is the same story as Fallout 3/NV.

Black Mesa (Half-Life's unofficial remaster) can get intense in some spots but it's a Source engine game so it'll "run" on a lot of hardware though with tweaking, I've got most of the settings maxed except for dynamic shadows and water reflections both on med with and average fps of 50-60.

Guys, I've made the sleeper PC with the HP DX5150.

Made the inside spray painted with Flat Black and maintained the exterior to look old as much as possible.

Currently using Ryzen 5 3600 with stock cooler and will be placing 1060 for the time being until I've gotten the budget for RX 5700 and new cooler (the card in there is Quadro K2000 picked up from old server as test GPU card).

Maybe I'll add single LED strip to make it black and white inside cause i don't prefer RGB that much with this setup.

    Dinky at approx 13wks

She's now letting us know she wants to go to the toilet, instead of occasionally having accidents with no warning. She's almost always dry in the mornings though after 7-8 hours in her crate, usually nothing at all. She's now being much more cuddly too, and less biting... which is a relief. She's now responding to her name and taking note of us more too. Sounds like she was a monster, but TBH I think she's done really well, especially since she was in kennels with her siblings and mum for her first 8 weeks of life, and IMO must have been a real culture shock for her... I am really proud of her!
She's still learning some tricks/training, but is responding well I think... she's good at sit, down, leave/no/off and crawl... and still learning roll over, stay, high-five and a few others.
She has grown so much... she was 2.5Kg when we got her, and is now 8.2Kg.

dinky looking out the window, too cold to be outside much at the moment. Please excuse the mess.

Making great progress on the training front. Doing the 'double-down' near a busy park with children running and yelling and cars driving by. Working on staying calm and relaxed amongst the distractions.

Pit bull, got him from someone who wasn't doing a good job with him, you could see his ribs and spine.
His previous owner wasn't around and had another dog that he said was greedy with food, there were other ways to keep him from getting that skinny, but he's a healthy pup now at least.
Here's a pic from his first day with us when he was 5 months old.

here he is after about two months.
The camera woke us both up, that said, I wouldn't trade Mistral for a thing.

Yo dude, did my research, basically the hub and jacks are not proprietary, just a normal usb 2.0 hub but the jacks are AC97 based so that does cause a hiccup to connect to motherboard but it just need to configure in software so that's good.

Changed the button and the LEDs with newer ones cause mine sucked, and it's much more compatible with newer boards.

Now time to wait for Ryzen 3rd Gen to come out and I'm fitting mATX X570 in this.
