I'd go for the MSI board since it has better connectivity.

You ought to be able to go ahead and install your os at this point,
I didn't even check if my ssd showed up in bios and just went full send for my windows 10 install 😆
The boot LED is just indicating that the pc can't boot an os, which is fine if you've yet to install one.

I know and intend to get a dp to hdmi adapter when I can, I just can't get those things quickly, and want a temporary solution to have both displays.

If the 5700 XT worked, it should have enough power for a 3060.

In my experience you should be good if you use the recommended drivers instead of optional. In the last 2 years I've never had any driver issues using RX 5500 XT and RX 6600, until I recently installed a new optional driver for OpenGL improvements.

wolfmcbeard got a reaction from powertoys in Can I do anything with my old laptop?
I did try Linux on my older systems in the past, including that pc, but I always had weird issues that always made me rage quit back to Windows, such as steam just ceasing to function in Ubuntu, I don't know if that's changed since 14.04, but I did feel burned by that.

Power it up and try to spam the F8 key, it will usually lead to the startup options screen and you want to launch start up repair.

Would 7 behave well on a sata ssd?
Pretty sure I can load up at least 8gb of memory, though I don't know the max supported on the machine.
I'd like to at least use it for web browsing and retro gaming, it used to be my main pc, so I feel like I'm doing it dirty after it kept me going for so long by not trying to find some life for it still.

Course 7 behaves fine on an ssd.

Browsing on windows 7 is a risk and browsers have stopped supporting it. Your best option will be firefox + ublock origin on it.

Seems 8gb of ram is possible.

Well, as I haven't seen any form of throttling since the cpu loves to hover between 4.43 and 4.49 under load, I'll probably just play it safe and leave it alone.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

wolfmcbeard reacted to SansVarnic in Should I even try to overclock my cpu?
I was considering adding this as a point but didnt feel it relevant to the question. 🤷‍♂️

You're less likely to break anything by under-volting, if your motherboard allows it (and I assume it does) you can find the optimum by adjusting the volt down little by little and running your machine until it stops running, then you set it back up to the previous level it ran on and leave it there.
Now what I said is above is very basic on how its done but there are plenty of decent guides on how to do it, but my initial answer for stands.
I dont over or under volt myself, see no need for it personally [in my use case].

I've found that the answer to, "Should I overclock?", is usually, "I should undervolt!". My Ryzen 5 5600 undervolts like a champ. Lower power draw, lower noise, virtually nil performance loss.

TBH, unless you have need for it or you're into that niche the answer would be no.

Say no more, don't bother overclocking. Enable PBO, maybe play around with the limits if you feel like it (this can get you a couple percent more performance, not much), and the curve optimizer (undervolting) does exist and should help you quite a lot if you're just on the stock cooler, though it's also a bit annoying to use since properly stress testing it is next to impossible and you can end up with crashing at idle.

The R5 5600X doesn't have an igpu and therefore the hdmi port on the motherboard is effectively useless by default so you need to use gpu video outs.
Does your ssd have an operating system installed?
And if so, did it start into the os normally?

Edit: I don't think most bios will show gpu info, I have an MSI mb and it doesn't from what I can find.

Should be fine, when I built my current pc a short bit ago, it would loop back to bios if I exited before I installed Windows 10.

Only just getting back here, but yeah, it was just me missing this in bios, I thought it was weird though that the keyboard and mouse's rgb would turn on, but not wake the system, but that's kinda moot now.
Did also enable an xmp profile so the ram runs at it's rated speed of 3200mhz.

Not much better for a much larger price imo.

Yeah, try turning it off and see if it still happens.  Maybe manually kill the process/app in task manager if it sticks around after you turn it off.

Normally when there's problems with a window you'd want to blame it on the installers (improper sealant, installation, etc.) but really with the software, it's like the Hulk/Bruce Banner "I'm always broken."

I've seen others post about this before. Apparently that process has a memory leak, which will lead it to never free memory, if you keep your PC running long enough. The easiest solution would be to disable it (right click task bar —> News and Interests —> turn off)

Yeah, my BeamNG.drive was corrupted somehow by the "F0rd Engine Pack" mod, which somehow caused issues with map surfaces (falling through plateaus on the Utah map and being able to drive through some of the trees on the Automation Test Track map), as well as glass, exhaust and other parts showing orange and failing to load textures on certain vehicles the mod applied to -- EVEN AFTER REMOVING THE DAMNED MOD! 🤨

I had 88 mods at that point, and I narrowed down the ones I knew weren't a problem, but ultimately had to blow it away and reinstall the whole game before it was right again. Guest 5150 isn't whistling Dixie when they say you have to be careful with mods, not just in BeamNG.drive, but ANY game. Some mods actually overwrite game files and create a mess.
