  1. This sounds like a definite gpu issue then. Does that happen in any other games, applications, or even just the desktop? And judging by the statement that other games have been slowly loading assets and eventually just crashing outright, I'm wondering if it's vram related if it's not the psu. But BF V running fine kinda puts that in question as well, a hard nut to crack indeed.
  2. Excellent, should be a fun little venture then. Probably not to be fair, but it'll be a nice little side project if nothing else.
  3. Would 7 behave well on a sata ssd? Pretty sure I can load up at least 8gb of memory, though I don't know the max supported on the machine. I'd like to at least use it for web browsing and retro gaming, it used to be my main pc, so I feel like I'm doing it dirty after it kept me going for so long by not trying to find some life for it still.
  4. That was part of why I retired it quite some time ago, which is sad since it's the only laptop to this day that I enjoyed using and actually held up. By the time I shelved it, i couldn't even get a stable framerate in Half Life 1, though I question if Windows 10 had a role in that.
  5. I've dug out my old Dell Latitude e6510 recently and surprisingly it still powers up just fine after sitting for a few years. Only problem is it's effectively useless for most tasks I'd put it through these days with it's i7 620m and 4gigs of ddr3. I do want to see if I can load it up with higher capacity ram at some point and toss a new drive in it since I lost the old one. Can I refresh this old hunk of metal and plastic to be useful for anything, or is it just a relic that while nicely designed, is better relegated as some kind of display piece?
  6. Banned for inappropriate use of redstone.
  7. Sounds like it's either down to the gpu or psu. Sometimes you do get weird issues if the power supply is on it's way out. But as you noted, it's almost all 7 years old at this point and if you've been using the pc regularly something is bound to give up the ghost sooner or later.
  8. Well, as I haven't seen any form of throttling since the cpu loves to hover between 4.43 and 4.49 under load, I'll probably just play it safe and leave it alone. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  9. Thanks for the info y'all, probably won't then. It does get a bit toasty and loud, if I were to undervolt, would I have to drop the speed down. I do already have a better cooler, but all the fans I have right now are loud garbo (the one that came with the cooler sounds like it includes a pre-failed baring) Can I just deal with it, or should I undervolt for now, and just go back to stock values later?
  10. I recently put together first custom pc, and I've seen some cpu overclocking options in my motherboards bios. I'm using an R5 5600X with the stock cooler (going to put a better tower cooler on when I can get some decent fans) But I'm wondering if I should even consider overclocking my cpu in the first place, aside from gaming, some music making through MX9rs, and making various things meant for use in the GZDoom engine, I don't really see much point to it. Is it alright for me to just "nah, I'm good." or should I consider it?
  11. Power it up and try to spam the F8 key, it will usually lead to the startup options screen and you want to launch start up repair.
  12. That's not much to go on unfortunately It could be anything from dead parts to something not seated properly... Check your debug LED's, looked up your motherboard and fortunately it does have some, these will at least narrow down the search
  13. Should be fine, when I built my current pc a short bit ago, it would loop back to bios if I exited before I installed Windows 10.
  14. The R5 5600X doesn't have an igpu and therefore the hdmi port on the motherboard is effectively useless by default so you need to use gpu video outs. Does your ssd have an operating system installed? And if so, did it start into the os normally? Edit: I don't think most bios will show gpu info, I have an MSI mb and it doesn't from what I can find.
  15. Only just getting back here, but yeah, it was just me missing this in bios, I thought it was weird though that the keyboard and mouse's rgb would turn on, but not wake the system, but that's kinda moot now. Did also enable an xmp profile so the ram runs at it's rated speed of 3200mhz.
  16. Yeah, I hadn't thought about it till I already bought the kit and was worried it wouldn't even post, and given how expensive ddr4 is, I'm glad it's worked fine otherwise. I'd still rather just stick with it if not waking up from sleep is my only real issue, since my 1050 is in dire need of retirement and that's going to be a much bigger pinch on the wallet.
  17. All the speeds and oc stuff is in the factories default mode, so no cpu oc, not using xmp (the ram is running at 2133 but is rated for 3200) and I'm not sure what docp is, but that likely off as well. The bios is on the latest stable version which for this board would be 7c91vaa. I'll take a look at that next time I shut down then. I know this ram wasn't on the qvl (Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL), but I haven't had any stability issues outside of this, which as stated by Stormseeker, could be that I missed an option in the bios.
  18. So I've loved my new build, it works great and is easily the most computer I've probably ever used, but there's one weird issue... It will not wake when I interact with my keyboard or mouse. My past experiences say this should work, and the rgb on my kb&m turns on when I interact with either of them, but the pc refuses to wake from sleep mode. Is this a Windows setting that's just been on by default in my past pc's or is this some weird quirk with built pc's? System works perfectly otherwise. 19. Wait, do you mean an ultrawide display? Now that would be of interest to me, an ultra wide curved display, so I could have the dual monitor utility with only one since I'm pretty sure ultrawides function the same more or less. unfortunately that's even further from my wallet's cries for mercy, but that is certainly a more justifiable case.
  20. Maybe, but I'm the kind of person who's fine with a 1080p 60 display. TV's are the only thing I actually see a justifiable uplift in, I'm just not keen on using a tv as a monitor, I already do that for my secondary display and the difference between a 1080p tv (at probably 18-20 inches diagonal) and a 24" monitor is night and day in terms of just about every metric of quality. And a 4k monitor just costs way to much for me to justify it, especially at 24", when I could just get a second hd monitor for cheaper and still have a greater viewing experience than what I'm getting out of my second display. I'm sure at larger sizes, the differences get more noticeable, but anything bigger than a 27" and I may as well just replace my living room tv, but that's just me.
  21. And we're near the end already, just need some extra fans, and a new gpu. Quite pleased with how it turned out, though I need more stickers. Went ahead and got Windows installed, actually migrating from my current pc will take some time, but I'm hoping to be done with that in the next couple of days.
  22. Does the 6700 pcb seem thinner than the 970's? That sounds like it's not seating properly into the slot, but I don't know if the thickness of the boards for all gpu's are uniform, or if there's some variance between all the manufacturers. But if it's also needing multiple resets to work then I don't know what that could be entirely.
  23. Odd, maybe something is grounding out? Edit I know that's a bit weird potentially, but I had an sff Dell for a while and at one point near the time I retired it, any bare mettle would give me a buzz like it was live.
