This is one of the reasons why I prefer 21:9 aspect ratio over 16:9...
....note the dreaded black bars on top and bottom, the left and right black bars can be ignored if viewed on a 16:9 monitor. That's why I don't really enjoy movies on 16:9 monitors and TV's.
Cropping the video to fit the entire screen makes it a magical experience for me. Yes, you lose out on some resolution, but it still looks damn good....to me anyway. Did the same thing on my AOC Q2963PM when I was trying out a 21:9 monitor, I'm somewhat of a videophile and watching movies in a 2.35:1 like format is boss!
