Ohhhhh benchmarks that have V-sync on... It's just a question of how many different configurations will be pinned to 60..

Seriously... These are almost less relevant than Quad GPU benchmarks with a single 1080p monitor..

well HL1 was a huge success
    so much so

that HL2's budget was $40 million
this was back in 2004  - adjusting for inflation it would be around 49 million

i would like to add that you need to play HL1 before playing HL2  its a continuation of the story

    Just throwing this out there.

Aside from me, I have five full time employees. We all work every workday, and I work at least a little bit every single day - that's 365 dedication, baby.

It took me over an hour on my 1000ms ping Internet while I was away on the island visiting family this weekend each night to release my videos.

I believe our accessibility at Linus Media Group sets us apart.

Any member of our community has a direct line to any employee here through Twitter or other means. We don't always get to every message, but we do our best to read and respond to as much as we can.

That's why we have grown our viewership more consistently over a longer period of time than ANY OTHER TECH CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE EVER. Seriously, I don't make this stuff up. http://socialblade.com/youtube/user/linustechtips

I'll concede that we have never experienced the same explosive growth that some others (notably Unbox Therapy and MKBHD) have, but our slow and steady approach with constantly evolving daily tech content has continued to be a winning formula over the years, and you can expect it to continue for many years to come... Whatever form it might come in...

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate it.

One thing I really want people who long for the good 'ol days to consider is this: Have I really changed, or have you changed?

The timing of this post is particularly interesting since it comes RIGHT AFTER I uploaded not one, but two motherboard videos in just a few days... What is more "classic LTT" than a motherboard overview video? Yes, it's better shot, and I have a chance to gather my thoughts BEFORE the video rather than during it (scripting), but is it POSSIBLE that you just don't need to hear about every motherboard anymore since there just isn't really that much to say about them?

The reasons you see me branching out are not due to a focus on money, but because I believe in the longer term it will be better for the audience. #1 is that I try not to say or do the same thing twice if I can avoid it. If that means that I don't unbox all three capacities of the same power supply the way that I used to, then so be it. #2 is that I let my own personal interests and projects guide the direction of the content because if I'm not actually passionate about it, you guys will clue in for sure and then this is all just pointless.

I'm sorry to those folks that aren't as interested in headphones as I am, but the content will continue to be about the things I think are interesting, not just PC tech.

Also some of the complaints here seem to be pure bandwagoning... The folks that are saying that *I* have sold out to ASUS because *Logan* made however many ASUS videos with JJ... Are you for real? CES coverage aside, I've made 5 ASUS product videos this calendar year. FIVE. If anything you guys should be hounding me about not adequately covering them given what a MASSIVE player they are in the PC space...

And frankly many of the other criticisms are like that... Calling what we do a commercial compared to the older-style unboxings is laughable. GO WATCH THE OLD STUFF. I'M LITERALLY READING THE BOX ON CAMERA. I have no prior experience with the product. It is PURE commercial. Now go watch one of our recent reviews (bear in mind not everything we do is something I'd consider a review) like this one:

Not a commercial. Contains many comparisons to other products. Ends with a recommendation against the product in the video.

As for us not going to Computex, quite frankly it's the viewer-base that spoke on this one. Last time I checked our Computex coverage last year got 1/2 as many views as our CES coverage, and cost our sponsors well over twice as much. You guys didn't care, so we aren't going this year.

    CES 2013 coverage: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8mG-RkN2uTxynknFjCZ2YVM_RiBgde7-
    Computex 2013 coverage: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8mG-RkN2uTyJKThbEAxoGGi8uXxNqnbb

edit: one more thing. Don't take the fact that I'm presenting my arguments here as a dismissal or to mean that I don't care about the viewpoints of my viewers. I truly do. If I didn't care, I would just be like every other YouTuber and ignore your message. I want our videos to make every one of our viewers happy. It's just not always possible

7/10 if a 10 is quad 780ti liquid cooled and an lga 2011 cpu. Just because you have 32 gigs of ram and a 900d does not mean you get 10/10. To be rather honest it's not that special.

I wasn't referring to the PSU, but glad you mentioned that. What PSU are you currently using?

What I mean by power delivery to the CPU is the VRM (voltage regulation module) which is responsible for providing the CPU with adequate stable power. Some boards have a VRM design that simply cannot deliver enough power to these 8-core CPU when they are running at high load. Sometimes it's an issue with lower quality components and other times it's just due to the design. That is the simplest way I can explain it. Again, I'm not saying you can't run an 8-core. You might be able to and not have any problems. But I would make sure that board can handle it and see if others have done so before dropping and extra $50 for 2 more cores. If you want to go that route, the choice is yours.

Your particular motherboard claims to support 140watts on the CPU socket and the FX-8320 draws a max of 125. So theoretically you *could* run that CPU. Given your budget, however, pairing a good GPU with a 6300 is probably the best bang for your buck.

Check Event Log to see if anything relevant is in there. Typically an overheat with throw a Thermal warning BSOD. Also have him run Memtest86 for 24 hours to rule out memory issues.

On the off chance he may have bad VRAM on his GPU. It works fine until it hits the bad area of RAM as time progresses then the GPU causes the machine to restart.

I actually do have a story now I'm thinking about it.. Let me sum it up
A coworker of mine (I work at a supermarket) sees himself as a tech fanatic. Once he was talking about a build he wanted to do.
He started talking about getting all top tier Asus ROG stuff, 7970's, H100 (at the time).. All massively overpriced stuff. And.. four 250GB harddrives in a Raid 0.
So I asked him why would you do that? Raid 0 is a stupid raid, just get one big fast drive and a SSD for boot and stuff, much more reliable that way. But he didn't move one bit.
Some time after that we we're having a break and we started talking computer again. I asked him why he wants to go AMD in stead if Nvidia for a GPU. He replied: ''No, Nvidia cards are made by Intel, and I dislike Intel!''. I told him Intel only makes integrated graphics and not discrete ones and that Nvidia and Intel are in no way affiliated, but he wouldn't change his mind.
After that he started talking about coolers. He said he had a H100 once before. ''Yeah, that thing is so nice the temps of my CPU we're lower than the temperature of my room!''
I tried to teach him a small lesson in physics on why that would be entirely impossible, but he kept yammering about.
One time after that he started talking about thermal compound and how he always spreads it over the entire CPU instead of a single blob in the mid. I tried to tell him why that method is shit, to which he replied ''I always do that and I have the lowest temps of all my friends!'' (Obviously made up).
Usually I don't care if people believe things that aren't optimal/true/good in any way, but this guy was so immensely dense it was unbelievable, and a complete tool too. Every word you tried to throw at him just bounced off.
