It was big enough that you created an account just to join in, so maybe it's a bigger deal than you're downplaying.

I am in no way waiting with baited breath for their response, but I am smart enough to see that it was a dick move to paywall it.

If in your world it's how things work, cool.  In mine, I prefer my apologies a little more sincere even when we know deep down they're full of shit.

When you think it's not a big deal, look at the revenue lost for the past week.  While it's not life changing, it IS more than you or I make.  So yeah, it's sizeable.

I'll add to this, they *intentionally* sabotaged sending out automatic shipping notifications. In an early update, they said they had brought our order info from Backerkit/Indiegogo to Shopify. The system started to send out emails, which they said they had stopped in the comments.

I guess they've run this entire campaign, supposedly they were shipping *months* ago.. and they never had a system setup to track orders? I have no idea.

They had hundreds of units in the US on May 7. I'm figuring they are doing as they said, delaying orders to their detractors. I was backer 245. They stated they've exhausted all 500 of the 200W Gigas in US inventory. I've got no shipping stuff. No notifications from FedEx, UPS, or USPS of a shipment coming, so yea.

They did sell Giga Bundles, of 5x and 2x packs, but I think unless all of them were sent to the US, it wouldn't account for mine not being shipped yet unless they're not shipping in order received but some other metric.

Since Linus only cares about money, the obvious thing to do is to cancel your Floatplane subscription. Also don't buy their merch. Who in their right mind is going to pay $250 USD or $70 USD for a backpack and screwdriver respectively?

What do you mean, exploiting free volunteer work? Since it won't be needed in the long-run and those people get early-access to videos, it's perfectly fine! They're not paid for it and they're acting as QA reviewers for the accuracy, but it's fine that they're completely unpaid. </Sarcasm>

A board game reviewer pulled an entire video and reshoot the whole review, including replaying the game, when they got some rules in the review wrong. That's the standard Linus should be aiming for.

Yet (IMO) something is still missing.

A public video apology from Mr Sebastian about the... incorrect way Billet labs prototype was handed in the "not a review" video.
    The prototype was axed there.
Then axed once againy when it was considered "not worth a reshoot because for 800 USD supposed price was not good enough anyway".

A reviewer (admitting that was a proper review, which IMO is not) should not "consider good" any product before testing. But on the other hand... should not consider a product bad without proper testing. So many times I've heard LMG people say "none product is good or not, every product has a proper case of use". But as "too much costly product" mr Sebastian should remember his now semi-defunct Samsung Fold 3. It has a lot of good points, and a lot of bad points, neverthless suite him for quite a long time. Again... "proper case of use" was specifically reported during sponsored content. Not on Billet Labs prototype or after, when asked from merch message. That makes me doubt sometimes...

I hope that both situations will be correctly sorted... soon.

That's not a good look. It's an important video, and their attitude is still monetization first. I don't think they should've gone FP first on this one.

Nope, they didn't learn from the backlash from the "What do we do now?" video thread about people being pissed off (rightly) about the Floatplane exclusivity for the first hour or so. *sigh*

Come on. For any other video I don't care but these kind of videos shouldn't have any kind of exclusivity and never be monetized.

Rikere reacted to davejr in Labs Transparency Thread
I found a link to watch the apology video without providing a view on the YouTube video (I cannot believe it was monetized) and saw the statement about how there would be a video describing the process or the details of the flow on Floatplane - I think given what has happened the idea of pay walling the transparency for processes that will provide videos to YouTube shows that no real change of mindset has occurred.

If you want to gain the respect and transparency that you allude to, not only should the processes be documented well, but they should be available to anyone who wants them, not just those who pay for FP.

Off the topic of transparency - I don't know the exact dates of when the labs started producing outputs, but I recall years ago people talking about prototypes of keyboard key pressing machines, soundproof chambers, PSU testers and the benchmark suite being produced but I just don't see any results - is this a case of everyone has a pet project and they want to get to some kind of big result? The website doesn't appear to be available yet - it feels like someone needs to take charge and actually produce some results - I can't believe that the only thing to result so far is effectively part of the controversy.

They posted the video last week on the 16th. It's been a week. Would be nice if they'd put out an update on where things stand (at least I've not seen anything, not on Youtube or twitter for an update). I tend to think their issues will take more than a week to fix, BUT at the same time they can't stand still forever. If they do an update, people will want to hear about Madison. But that's also another can of worms they're probably not ready to open just yet.

I imagine if they get rolling again, we might see a video mid to late this week.

If you are unable to sniff out sexual harassment when you hear about rumors, you're woefully out of touch with your company. I'm a work process consultant. I come into firms and find pain points in the workflows. It takes a competent person to earn the trust of the people in the company to understand that being open with me will result in positive change, but competency is okay to expect. By talking with people, you quickly see repeating patters. In my line of work, that means that I start seeing what departments, what department heads, what processes and after digging for a while, I start seeing the cultural issues. I've made changes to workplaces where top management would be so top-down, that no one underneath knew they could say no. By taking away that power from the management and giving it to the people in charge of an area, you empower that department to trust their own findings. I could see the corroding effects the culture had on the people that worked there. I learned of people that quit after various incidents.

It quickly ties together, work culture and how things work at a workplace. So, with having been at this for some years, I can tell you that it's abundantly clear what issues are there, when you're present in a workplace. So if you do realize that there might be things going on that shouldn't, you can reattach yourself to the workplace and find these issues. A microcosm of this for LTT is the ever-continuing joke of ragging on Colton. I think most of us have been on the receiving end of a joke that's gone on for too long. You might be in on it, and okay with it, for quite the time. But at a certain time, that joke starts corroding at you. I've never been comfortable with them making that joke, and when they're okay being public about making such a joke for such a long time, I know there's a lot more under that iceberg.

Now, these are just character judgement calls from some random guy on the internet, and I don't intend for this to mean anything by itself. It's just a view into how easy it is to sniff out bad culture at work. It can be hard and even impossible to change it, but it's not okay not to know about it.

So, you investigate in that manner. You ensure that when rumors of things not being the way they should at your work that it's actually not like that, or find out that it is, and take action.

They are closing in on 15 years. "Growing pains" is an excuse. I'm currently consulting in a firm that has eight times the employees and have existed for ten years. They have things they need to figure out because of the company growing in size, but not growing pains like this. This is just bad culture, not growing pains. If you overwork your workers due to video frequency, there's a culture issue, not growing pains .Also, it's not about wanting LTT to fail, it's about holding them accountable.

It's just another nothing-burger. "We take it seriously, we'll take necessary steps". Nothing apologetic towards Madison. It's just a PR nightmare they need to solve. It doesn't feel like they feel remorseful that we're even in this position, all things said are simply the correct response to a PR issue.

After watching several videos and reading up on some, I think this video on “We will do better and create new processes” all within a week rings hollow to me.

Especially new processes should take more then a week to formulate and implement, especially if this regards the whole LMG crew and not a fraction of it.

Also the mentioning of not taking on sponsorships, but then plugging the store felt tone deaf and I did not understand why this take was used at all. Especially with Yvonne mentioning why they did not take any sponsors.

Not addressing Madison’s statement is - while understandable from a legal side - still wanting and really paints the (former) upper management in a way different light.

Lastly and this is something related to previous videos. I am talking about those (which I felt increased in volume) “look at the privileged stuff I’m making over at my house”, or “rich YouTuber ordered something expensive” videos  when resources could have been spent more on projects - especially in this day and age - focus on sustainability and environment friendly products and projects. I know this is personal preference, but I wanted to share my full opinion.

In short, not only the response of LMG had been lacking for me, but also the videos that had been shown before. Again, this is my personal opinion and others might feel differently.

I'm rather disappointed to see LTT working with Volta again.

They've taken to using their Indiegogo page to spam backers. It looks like potentially the only way to turn off that spam is to disable IGG emails on campaign updates, there is no unsubscribe link:

And if their IGG page is any indication, they continue to fail to deliver for everyone, or ship failed units: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/giga-the-ultimate-universal-gan-charger/x/548182#/discussion

There's a post from five weeks ago, a guy with Contribution ID 1053 that's not got his order. They're into the 4000s.

When this issue first popped up, LTT said they'd not work with Volta until the issues were all resolved. I did eventually get my charger, but it looks like Volta themselves remain a very bad company.

I want to add another complaint about Volta Charger. In their latest update to their indiegogo supporters they've told us if we want a tracking number for our shipment we have to sign up for their "LATEST NEWS & OFFERS" mailing list. I should not have to be spammed by their marketing department just to receive a tracking number.
