If I may make a suggestion, please be mindful of how much of your identity is wrapped up in your choice of OS. It's just a piece of software, and there's no need to be so derisive towards others just because they criticized the OS you use. I promise you Apple will be just fine without you defending their UX choices.

kenblu24 got a reaction from Cavalry Canuck in Backpack: MOLLE on the side? External water bottle pouch?
Why isn't there a pouch for water bottles on the outside? I can actually understand why there isn't one; bottles can slip out, it's not stealthy, it would allow zippers to get lost under the water bottle area, wide range of bottle sizes, etc. But my co-worker has a bag with MOLLE webbing on the side, so he's got this thing: https://www.amazon.com/Gonex-Tactical-Military-Drawstring-Hydration/dp/B01J7SZII4 The webbing on the left side don't appear to be MOLLE/PALS standard. Why aren't they? Seems like that would have given people more choices for how to use the bag, especially since there are others like me who would like an external bottle pocket:

kenblu24 got a reaction from Tan3l6 in Best drive cloning software?
Macrium Reflect gives you the option to use a recovery environment. Like most backup software, it's not required to clone a drive, but if you want a bootable copy, I'd still highly recommend using the recovery environment. The last clone I did failed because I did it online (i.e. Windows was still running off the drive I was cloning) and the resulting clone wasn't bootable. I tried again from the recovery environment and it worked perfectly.

That said, this is the first time I've had this issue. Every other time I've done an online clone with Macrium, it's been bootable. But to be safe, going forward I'm doing all my boot drive clones offline.

One thing to keep in mind is that on Linux, the updater updates (almost) all your applications.
On Windows, it basically only updates Windows, some drivers, and a couple other MS Related Applications. (Office)

To me anything less than 30 seconds is fine.
I've had some Windows VMs take 5+ minutes to check for updates using a freaking WSUS server that's local on the network!

The only thing i can think of that one would use those USB ports for would be a USB powered  BBQ/grill:

    -------------

I cant really speak for others as my motherboard has a lot of USB ports itself
I myself have the ASUS Crosshair VIII formulla, which over 11 USB 3.0 type A ports. [excluding the front panel ones]
with front panel i have over 17 USB 3.0 type A ports of which 2 USB 2.0
and i have another 2 USB 3.0 type C ports.

its not that i have to use it all, but its nice to have. as you will never have the issue of accidentally plugging in a USB 3.0 drive into a usb 2.0 port.
    why i chose the formula:
    - 5gb/ 10gb internet ports [need to upgrade my internet setup soon to support 10gb/s]
    - No IO based usb 2.0 ports
    - great support for watercooling [currently using a AIO for the cpu, and the asus strix LC RX6800xt, so i technically do not need a custom loop]
    - great overclocking support [if i ever gonna use it]
    - oled status panel
    - full support for Ryzen 9 5900x. [unlike cheaper boards which don't utilize the full power of the  5900x]

[case: thermaltake core X71, use silicone dust-caps to cover the 3.5mm port, and 3 of the usb ports,]

As for temps under normal use the CPU barely gets hotter than 45C, the GPU is barely hotter than 35C. [ambient 25C]

Try unplugging it, turning off the PSU, holding the power button for a few seconds, then plug it back in and see if it can turn on.

Mining in general uses up a lot of electricity and generates lots of waste heat in return. But if you're using that heat to heat your house, it's not being wasted.

kenblu24 got a reaction from Kilrah in Linus still says those cheap graphics cards are useless.
Businesses think differently. The possibility of wasting time returning items or waiting for a new item to ship or even just the long shipping times that often accompany cheap ebay items is not gonna fly with a business. Unless the company has a dedicated IT guy, they're also not gonna want to waste time installing possibly dead or near death GPUs.

When one of Linus's weird AliExpress purchases ends up not working as intended, he can still make a video about it. When a normal business gets a dud, they have to deal with returning the item somehow, seeking the refund, and they're losing productivity. Most businesses would be happy to spend the $40 per card if it means they can just chuck it in a system and go, and official system support is probably better for a 710 than for an ancient 3450, which, in my case, probably can't even run the darn management software on two screens.

kenblu24 got a reaction from thebrain36 in Linus still says those cheap graphics cards are useless.
Linus has said time and time again that those craptastic bottom-of-the-barrel new GPU cards that they have at Best Buy or Newegg for like $45 are useless and nobody should buy them. But I think there is actually one good usage case for these things:

Linus argues that cheap GPUs give awful performance per dollar, but what if I don't care about performance? For small businesses with work computers, if a GPU from a prebuilt dies, and the business doesn't have a service contract, just buy the cheapest new GPU you can find. It'll have a warranty, and can easily be returned. Or, if said business wants to add an extra monitor to a computer with only integrated graphics, they can do so by adding a cheap, new GPU. Used GPUs are great for gamers on a budget, but most non-creative small businesses don't need graphics horsepower. Same for ya nan on Facebook.

Strange that Linears doesn't consider this rather common scenario, considering he seems to be very in-tune with non-techy businesses just as he is with the gaming and performance PC communities. It's the perfect use case for these cheap cards: People who give zero cares about performance, and don't want to deal with buying used.

Devil's Avocados: Linux is probably worried about non-tech-savvy gamers who want performance but don't know where to look for it, and just waltz into Best Buy for an upgrade and end up buying these cheap GPUs.
