AMD GPU's for the most part the drivers aren't really a issue anymore , Nvidia often introduces new features sooner however.

Most problems crop up from overclocking on both AMD AND NVIDIA atm.

And for the most part tweaking/OCing in general CPU and GPU has become more problematic than it's often worth for the minimum gains and you run into plenty of stability issues now a days when doing so on both manufactures.

That said cpu's and gpu's now are typically turboing (self oc'ing) quite well out of box leaving users with hardly any gains that can be made anyways.

Intel CPU's are still basically similar platform as they were on skylake with some improvements.

If anything id say AMD has made the most improvements on CPU's in the last few generations i haven't seen to many issues with anything we have sold in the 2xxx 3xxx or 5xxx series CPU's.

it gets all the vasoline off without any damage and drys them nice and spotless .

Its right up there with reviving dying Mobo's and GPU's with the oven trick "putting your videocard or mobo in the oven for a certain amount of time at a specific temperature"
    I fixed a 8800GTX doing that trick!

solarflare got a reaction from GoodBytes in How can I reset my pc without losing installed drivers?
If your worried about files being recoverable then you probably want to wipe/zero that drive with a disk destroyer first or something before resetting or reinstalling windows.

because the hdd data would still be recoverable likely if someone runs a restore tool on it.

that's if you are worried about your data just pointing that out.

running a reset doesn't remove the data it just overwrights on the partition but the old partition is usually still recoverable.

almost forgot about my robot vac - its not a roomba its a lesser brand , when i bought it i just thought they would all be smart .
i bought a Deebot ecovacs one and it is the worst . sometimes and i mean not often it makes it back to the charging station.
It doesn't know where the station is however so what it does is .. when bat gets low it stops vacuum and then drives around until its IR sensor finds the charge station and then that's how it lines up.
However most or many times it doesn't find it so it just runs out of battery power somewhere like a hall or bathroom.
That's if it didn't get stuck on something in some almost impossible way or close a bathroom door on itself somehow.

I regret not getting a better one that maps the rooms etc.

Also . often with just some voltage increase and proper timings setup you can run DDR3 or DDR @ well above stock clocks.

Only issue is you dont always get the auto profiles of higher clocks so you need to research a bit.

solarflare got a reaction from jerubedo in Would i7 920 and gtx 1660 work?
920 @ 3.8-4ghz would still run quite well with a modern gpu. he might loose like 5-10fps.
Some of you people vastly overestimate the worth of a newer gen cpu in games.

Its often less of a difference than one would think.

GPU makes the largest difference like always.

Would there be bottleneck? yea but it would still perform fairly well.

I gave a friend a x58 930 @ 4ghz pc with a 680 in it and when he put a newer gpu in it the performance more than doubled so its not like it wont make a difference.

And he still plays all modern titles at solid fps etc.

If your still young i can recommend you do something else or educate for something else as a life choice.
If i could go back id probably switch for computer engineering, or go 180 and do something like power engineering etc.

IT in the traditional sense is dieing a slow death atm, almost everything is considered disposable now a days.
Its probably not what you wanted to hear but relying on Builds and break/fix for any kind of income is not sustainable anymore.

The only guys who are still in the buisness and doing well are IT for a specific company that pays them to just be there and maintain status quo.
Or contract based IT services which often require a team to keep the client happy.
Unfortunately most of those contractual services are hoovered up by who ever was around first and they dont just let those go.

That last part has and is happening more and more all the time.
I get old friends all the time who price out a system and then go.. umm wanna play on Xbox one ?then they run out and buy a XBO-X and stuff it on a 4k display and start gaming that night.
With having Xim out there you can also KBD/Mouse game on either XBO or PS4 and it basically feels the same for aiming etc as PC does.
Even with the TV (average 50-55" 4k) - Xim Apex and a XBO-X your up and gaming for what? the price of a single Radeon 7 or 2080 , forget the rest of the pc's price.
Its going to get harder and harder to talk people into gaming on a PC if the inflation doesn't stop..
As for AMD , I've been waiting for a while for them to come out with something impressive and priced competitively, But they seem to only want to match prices now and barely match performance leaving not much of a choice at all in the end.

solarflare got a reaction from xg32 in Which will be the best GPU for my i7 3770.
What people are thinking is a bottleneck isn't a true bottleneck.
when you see a GPU gain significant performance increase every time you up the clock on a CPU that's evidence of bottle-necking.
When you see a GPU gain slight minimal performance increases per CPU clock increase , that's not a bottleneck that's simply normal results.

You will typically always gain a few fps per cpu increase regardless this will not stop even into the 5-ghz ranges under cold.
A 2500 or 2600k @ 4.8 isn't truly bottle-necking any gpu's , will other cpu's at 4.8-ghz be slightly faster? yes they are more efficient per clock so that outcome is obvious but its not a bottleneck.  same with a 3770 Hopefully he has a K version , Add a cheap cooler like hyper 212 type and clock it up to at-least 4.4ghz and you wont be needing to worry about this issue.

I've went cold a bunch and one thing i can say is you will always gain performance and FPS on every mhz increase your screaming cpu will give there is no end I do not consider any of that bottleneck's at all.

yep this is the best way to clean off a mobo and GPU with sugar on it.

Tupper ware big enough to submerge the mobo and dunk it for a few min / slosh it around a bit.
pull it out and let it sit in the sun for a few hours/day.

Fixed lots of laptop mobos like this that had drinks spilled down on the kbd area.

Sometimes we put together a bunch of pc's in a row here at the shop for a order and you find 1-2 with the IO shield tab jammed in the nic port because it was bent to far in.
Kind of pisses you off after putting together like 30-40 pc's in a row to have to go back and redo 2-3 for something so stupid.

Also back in the days of floppy i always for some reason put the floppy cable in backwards and then go turn the pc on and was like.. CRAP the light on the floppy drive is going!.
I don't know why but i would always for some reason think stripe for floppy cable goes towards me but its the exact opposite took me awhile to force myself to put it in properly.

It was quite a laugh around the office till i broke myself of the habit.

8350 & a noctua D14 or something comparable (perhaps cheaper) would be better.
212's are ok but i had poor luck oc'ing a 8150 on a 212 in the past. (they do run hotter than 8350's tho).
either way the AMD chips put out some serious heat you might want something a bit better than a 212

I should add im saying you will need to OC the 8350 to attempt at alleviating the bottleneck to your 290.

A better strategy might be finding a used z87 / z97 & 4570k/4670k for a few more $ it will definitely last you longer in the end.
