  1. You mean from platform streaming cost perspective? Because otherwise it makes no sense, why limit viewer base from the get go. If all my current twitch subbed streamers (I usually have like 3-4 active subs) were paid membership from the beginning, I probably would not be watching any.
  2. DSLRs are practically dead from sales perspective, mirrorless cameras have taken over for quite some time now. Nikon has switched their strategy from low profit margin cameras (think D3100 cameras and like) to mid/high tier (and also stopped spending on R&D for DSLRs). Z8 and Z9 are killing it right now and overall Nikon financials are healthy with good profits. There are some issues like Nikon needs to refresh "lower" end cameras like Z6 with more up to date tech and it is actually expected soon (within 2 months or so). Nikon mirrorless Z lenses are top notch already. I was kind of on the sidelines during this DSRL to mirrorless transition phase but right now (2024) I'd buy into Nikon system again.
  3. This is a topic I'd like to hear about on WAN show.. Amazon is just shutting them down, not even selling to anyone (apparently).
  4. Nothing has changed, all big IT companies overhired during covid and now trimming the fat. Because everyone is doing it, it is easier to explain from PR perspective. CEO - "I'm willing to make this sacrifice" fires 10k people to keep profits up and get his bonus. That's how it goes.
  5. To me the biggest thing regarding warranties and "trust me bro" is that warranty is covered by company, not by owner at the time of purchase. What if Linus sells the company tomorrow? Trust me bro is no obligation to new owner. On a side note which I think has lead to this situation - this monetize everything approach is the main reason why I basically don't watch any LTT videos now. The original plan/promise to publish video every day is biting in the a.. for quite some time since most videos are just useless. Well, if it generates enough views I guess it's all good.
  6. I'd say ambient temps are not a big problem although during summer it can be few degrees more than I'd like. Regarding A/C question, a lot of houses are not made of paper so they keep cooler during hot times for longer, that includes apartment buildings (e.g. where I live, it takes a really long heat wave to sort of "warm up" the walls and only then it gets bad). Some other practicalities (depends on the location and type of building obviously) - AC takes space, there are some regulations that you cannot just have a box visible from street view, electricity costs at the moment are also going up (this wasn't a factor before though, so not relevant from historical perspective). What I don't like is that pc can actually be the biggest heat generator so it kind of amplifies the problem during hot weather. At the same time, if it's 30C outside then I'm not gonna be gaming anyway, just go to beach or drink some beer somewhere outside or smth. So I'm not worried but I'll still keep an eye on the temp results when these new CPUs will come out.
  7. I guess you are referring to US market but anyway, in many countries it's not very common to have A/C. Where I live it could be useful maybe a week per year when temps go over 30C so it's just not needed really. I have 24C inside at the moment though. And I'll probably upgrade my main pc once 13900k and 4090 comes out.
  8. I work for a huge IT company where one of the businesses is to implement/maintain customer ERP systems. Sometimes it's like talking to a brick wall, customers are like "It works, so we don't want to change anything". And here we are. One thing is ERP systems themselves but all the add-ons and whatever stuff that have dependencies.. And as a consultant in those projects I will have to listen to complaints "Why it's not working anymore, it worked yesterday".
  9. I guess I'm late to the party but why would LTT invest numbers that are mentioned in this thread into making stuff like screwdrivers and backpacks? Or is it some kind of runnnig joke around here? If it's not a joke, someone is heavily overestimating LTT brand value on such trivial items (on a global scale).
  10. I have roughly 50$ in BTC (some random gpu mining, haven't bought any), I feel pretty confident on my retirement plans.
  11. You can't even imagine what kind of level fake news Russia backed channels are pushing in neighboring countries and also producing locally. Some channels loose licence because of the stuff they show in news is so ridiculous, just to stir the pot and make those countries their biggest enemies. Did you know that Latvia was the second biggest threat to Russia (after US) according to surveys in Russia (before Ukraine happened)? Country with 2mil people and 2 tanks. That's how they tend to build picture of neighbor countries, events happening in the world and such. Covid is just one tiny bit of that.
  12. It's just typical crypto fanatics wanting something to be true and spreading lies. Our company is working with several Russian banks (and many other countries, one of the biggest companies working with payment processing/banking) and there is no such thing going on.
  13. Interesting discussion looking from my (EU) perspective. Some have Android phones, some iPhones (including closest family). Never heard of anyone saying "why are you not going to other side using iMessage, it's so great". My groups use either FB or Whatsapp so that no one is missing out. So at least here in my local bubble Apple have shot themselves in the foot since no one cares about their app. In any case, it's just to send some stuff, maybe have some call and share some stuff or whatever. Don't really care which app I use for that.
  14. Can you elaborate on this? Maybe I'm missing something but somehow I don't see Linux or other OS taking over as of yet. Also, to the point that others bring up that no one understands how it's working anymore - welcome to the daily business in big corps systems.
  15. It is used a lot in electronics. You know, that might be useful for one or two people. While BTC is just a gigantic waste of energy.
