  1. Yeah, sorry for the use of the word bottleneck. Really want to squeeze as much life as I can out of this system because its a okay for about 90% of the stuff I do. Some of the newer titles I have been playing are starting to stretch the 5600 xt a little bit. I guess $300-$350 for a new gpu would be ideally the best, there are some 6700xt around the price point. The video shared showing the comparison of the 6600xt to the 5600xt really wouldn't be worth for such a small boost.
  2. As the title says, given this build What would you think would be the best bang for the buck, or worthwhile upgrade, to keep it going? Would the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D be worth the cost to upgrade to, think that's the "best" CPU this motherboard can handle? Would upgrading the GPU to 6600 - 6700 series and not the CPU be bottlenecked? Appreciate any feedback or experiences others might have upgrading a similar build.
  3. @BiotechBenWhat do you think about replacing the 5600XT with either 6600XT or 6700XT? Depending on model and potentional sales, anywhere from $50 - $75 difference between those two. Seems like a 6700XT on sale for below $400 would be a pretty substantial upgrade.
  4. Budget (including currency): $500~ Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Software Development and the most demanding game I play is BF2042 (would like to play at least natively at 1080p 120hz) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): R5 3600 stock cooler 3.6Ghz 16GB DDR4 3600 RX 5600 XT 750W Seasonic PSU 2TB NVMe SSD TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS (WI-FI) Silverstone PS-15 CPU COOLER HEIGHT LIMITATION IS 154MM I seems that a GPU upgrade and a better cooler cpu cooler to do some overclocking would be the best option, what do you guys think?
  5. I find the perspective you shared about not have the apple specific features if I were to get a windows/linux laptop using a Pixel. One thing I haven't thought about was service life. If I find a used laptop, I may get 2-3 good years out of it before upgrades no longer are an option or extend the life. However, with a Macbook Air, people regularly use macs for 5 years with no issues. And considering its apples M1 chip, that might make it more in line with how they support the iPhones. Thanks for the reply and information!
  6. I am torn between buying a used or heavily discounted M1 Macbook Air OR finding a used laptop like (lenovo thinkpad, dell xps 13, etc...) and running linux on them. This would be a dedicated dev machine. Java and front end web development type work. I want a great display (high pixel count, color accurate, plenty bright enough), good battery life, excellent keyboard. My hesitation for an M1 Macbook Air is that I am not in the apple "ecosystem" and would not be able to take advantage of that comes with it (and quite frankly, afraid it would push me back to iPhone and other apple products, I have been thoroughly enjoying the Pixel life). Although, there are a lot of pros for the M1 Air. People report incredible battery life, strong performance for the tasks that I would be using it for. I love the idea of finding and older laptop that someone is done with and cleaning it up, giving some upgrades where needed, and not sending more e-waste to the dump. Does anyone have recommendations on a good, used, laptop that will fit my needs and happily run linux with no real fuss of getting everything running?
  7. Yeah, I was thinking 13" was a little to small and 15" a little to big! What makes you so strong about M1 MacBook for this work?
  8. I'm looking for a laptop software development work that has great battery life, keyboard, and display. Would love it to be lighter, 3lbs or less. Most of what I do is java application work with front end web development work as well. I feel like the M1 MacBooks are what I'm looking for hardware and form factor wise, but at work we use dell windows based laptops and my desktop for gaming and other stuff is also windows so I'm more familiar comfortable with windows. Laptop Spec wish list 14" screen (13" or 15" would also be fine if others are met) Ryzen 5000 series cpu(H version if possible, not opposed to 11th gen Intel devices) 8GB(expandable memory) otherwise 16GB 256GB storage(expandable as well) otherwise 512GB Exceptional keyboard Great display, doesn't need to be 4K but higher PPI the better! Thinness and lower weight are bonus points, I could take one or the other if other conditions are met.
  9. My oldest brother wants to build the most balling gaming pc that would have been available in 2004 so he can experience all the games that came out during that time period as if he was still there. I have started to compile a list of components that would have been selected as best of the year. Now comes the hard part of funding all of these items in working condition, close to new would be awesome, but working is the goal. If anyone knows or has leads to some parts that would go well with this build, please point me in the right direction. I found this article from an old maximum pc dream machine build of 2004. Hoping this would be an ideal guide to find the right stuff!
  10. Right now I do front end software development. I didn't even think about the used market because I read an article that so many people were buying monitors for home! And the games I play I get 120fps or higher, but that's at 1080p and my current monitor is 60hz so I don't really get the full potential.
  11. My budget puts me at about $250 or so and I can't find one at that resolution. Obviously I would love the best specs but have to be conservative.
  12. I currently have a single 27" 1080p ips 60hz Acer monitor. I am gonna be working from home and need more screen real estate and was considering getting another 27" monitor but 144hz or a 21:9 aspect ratio. LG Ultra Wide from PC Part Picker I found this LG monitor which is IPS and while it's not 144hz, 75hz is technically better than 60hz. Acer 27" 144hz This one one is only about $40 less than the ultra wide and I'm torn between which would be better. I play games like BF V and WoW or hearthstone. I'm just so torn!
  13. It would be guaranteed to fit. I would be taking a chance on the coolers that 154.5 or higher. This case is really compact.
  14. If I push the budget up a little bit I can get this and it seems like a really good option for an AIO, especially at this price range. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/4TpmP6/cooler-master-masterliquid-ml120l-rgb-v2-6559-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-mlw-d12m-a18pc-r2
  15. @Caroline while that cooler is awesome and would allow me to overclock the snot out of the 3600, its over double of what my max budget is.
  16. Then they need to update their specification page because it is showing 154 and on pc part picker as well.
  17. @Deli I thought the specifications said it was 154mm which would be the edge of my limit.
  18. Looks like if I stretch the budget about $10 this becomes available https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8GBrxr/scythe-mugen-5-rev-b-5117-cfm-cpu-cooler-scmg-5100 Anyone have experience with this on a 3600?
  19. @Slottr I'm concerned about the height. The Gammaxx 400 is at 154.5 and the max is 154.
  20. I am looking for a cooler that fits these specifications to replace the stock cooler of the Ryzen 5 3600: My case, Silverstone PS-15, says it has max height of 154mm but some reviewers have gotten a 155mm to fit. Ryzen 5 3600. would like to try and get a modest overclock if possible. Max price of $40. This is for a relatively "budget" minded build so the cheaper the better. If I find something that gets close to this, I either can't find a review or it is no longer available.
  21. @Analog Case is a lot smaller than it looked in reviews and product pictures. Love the compact size, gonna be easy to take with my on trips and stuff!
  22. @VeganJoy HWInfo has a built in logging too that I then imported into sheets to create the charts.
  23. @VeganJoy Just played BFV for about an hour and a half at 1080p ultra settings and logged the cpu temp and clocks as well as the gpu temp and clocks. No throttling was logged on either.
  24. @Jason 57 I really like this case for the size and price. Has some short comings but I think if you realize that going into it then its not that bad.
  25. @VeganJoy I wanted to get coolers and fans when I bought everything but that would have added $75-$125 depending on cooler and fans and I really wanted to spend everything on components.
