  1. Relevant specs: Intel 6700k, Asus z170i pro gaming mobo, EVGA 550 G2 PSU, 2x8gb Corsair vengeance 3000mhz ram Hi all, I was using my computer last night, and it randomly turned off, and I haven’t been able to get it turned on again. There is a power LED that’s usually solid red, but now it is pulsing slowly. Ive read this is commonly caused by a bad PSU or Ram. So far I have: Reseated everything Taken out both sticks of ram and tried each individually Took mobo out of case and unplugged literally everything so that it is only the PSU, Mobo, and CPU. Cleared CMOS I have also tried two different power supplies - an interesting note is that on my PSU and my friends (both EVGA) the pulsing LED on the Mobo is slow, maybe once per couple seconds. I tried my brothers PSU (Corsair) and the Mobo LED pulsed much more quickly. That really confuses me. At this point I think it might be a bad motherboard? I looked it over pretty thoroughly and didn’t see anything obviously blown up. Thank you for any suggestions. I’m out of ideas at this point.
  2. FurMark has been running in windowed. The Superposition Benchmark has been in full screen. I think most games I run in full screen-windowless. It's something I hadn't thought of yet. I will try running a game at full screen instead of full screen windowless and check back. Thanks Update: I ran Saints Row 3 Remastered in Windowed, Full Screen Windowless, and Full Screen and each crashed around 5-10 minutes in.
  3. Specs: Intel 6700k @ stock w/ 120mm AIO, EVGA 980 ftw, EVGA 550 G2 PSU, 16gb 3000mzh Corsair Vengeance (running the default XMP profile from Asus), Asus Z170i Pro Gaming Mobo. Hi All, I've been having issues with game crashes, and they are becoming more frequent. I received my 980 used from an old job. The day I received the GPU I tried to OC it, but Unigine Heaven would always crash even with just a small OC. I left the card at stock settings and have stress tested in the past and present, and it runs stress tests and benchmarks without fail. For the games crashing... It's been increasing in frequency over the years. It started with just certain older titles (WaW, Black Ops 1, L4D2) that would crash my computer after around 15-30 minutes of gaming. Very recently more games have been crashing and more quickly than before. Black ops Cold War, Saints Row 3, Valorant, and GTA 5 are games I tried yesterday and all crashed within 10 minutes. What the crash looks like - the screen going completely black and is typically accompanied with a split second of glitched/distorted game audio. During this time, I can see my monitor is running through it's inputs trying to find an output from my PC. Usually the computer audio will come back after a second, and sometimes I will be able to continue talking in Discord, but the screen will stay black, and I will have to hard reset. No visual artifacts, just a black screen. The past couple weeks I've started having issues getting the computer to restart after crashes, and it might take a few restarts with completely powering the computer off before it will boot. If it doesn't boot, it will just sit at a blank/black screen. Yesterday the boot drive LED on my motherboard lit up for the first time, but I restarted with things starting normally, and the LED turned off - I believe this is unrelated. In my head this is definitely the GPU. I just don't understand how it is passing benchmarks if it keeps crashing in games. Yesterday I ran FurMark for 45 minutes with zero issues. 76c max GPU temp. I also ran the Superposition benchmark on 1080p and 4K settings, and it ran fine both times. I've also stress tested the CPU on Cinebench and did not have issues with temps in the 70s Someone on Reddit suggested possibly a PSU issue. I ran FurMark + Looped Cinebench for 1 hour without issue. I feel like this should rule PSU out? I have tried letting Windows repair system files, completely uninstalled graphics drivers with DDU & reinstalled, reseated ram and GPU, set ram to default settings, re-plugged in power cables, and lowering the power target for the GPU to 90%. Any ideas anyone? Maybe a fresh install of windows? No clue! Thank you!
  4. No, you don't need a sound card. The on board audio will be more than good enough for the majority of users. The motherboard you've picked out doesn't come with built in wifi so the adapter will be needed. It has an Ethernet port though so you can always go for a wired connection. Also, your build has an i5-5600k and an aftermarket air cooler. It doesn't appear that your motherboard supports CPU overclocking. If you want to overclock, you should look for a Z motherboard. Here's the same board you've selected but with the capability of overclocking.
  5. Where is the list? Never mind, I refreshed the page and it showed up!
  6. you're not overclocking the cpu so is the aftermarket cooler needed?
  7. An AIO would perform the same, and In my opinion looks better. I guess the aesthetic appeal is subjective. Everything looks good though!
  8. That's what I was hoping for, thank you.
  9. Im about to try to sell my computer on craigslist right now and buy this. Does anyone know if the 980 is a normal reference 980 like we can all buy from the store or is it a weird OEM version?
  10. A 970 would be insane so I could give it to a friend who's been trying to get into pc gaming but only owns a basic pre built pc.
  11. I brought my desktop to my dorm room. It might be wise to get a picture of your dorm room just to make sure there is room to put all of your stuff. As far as what HeathCliff said about possibly not having a lot of free time, trust me you will your first year. Going into college I thought I would have little free time but you'll be surprised. Here's a picture I took of my setup.
  12. I ordered their ear buds a couple weeks back for 90% off and they were horrible but they have some new ones and looking a the pictures they don't have the same cheap plastic inside as the others so I might give them one more shot.
