    With C++ an i7 and a SSD can be money well spend depending on the project size. Compilation times with stuff like QT can be really long and annoying on weak hardware.

    I don't see this as a problem, if your game is good and polished people who liked the other game might even be looking for something similar.
    In the end the games won't be exactly the same... minecraft isn't the only block building game out there and while it's by far the most popular other games in that genre still get some traction... You always have to be able to compete somehow and as a single person you can only do that when you keep the scope small.

    Even when you are the first to release something "new" and awesome there is no guarantee that you will get any visibility with all the indie games released each day.

    When he said £180 he meant the odac i guess.

    I had an pci creative music something which was around 40-50€ (not sure) and that wasn't really sounding much different than onboard. Than i got an Auzentech Prelude for ~120€ and that was a BIG improvement (at that time i wasn't sure if the prelude would change anything so i pretty much bought it knowing that i might waste 120€... but i was really surprised in the end how much better it sounded). Then i got an Audinst Hud-MX1(~140€) and a year later the Hud-MX2(~200€) and the sound pretty much stayed the same(i wouldn't have kept them if i didn't feel like they were a good investment but really the differences aren't that big). What i want to say with this is that i feel investing 100€$+ can lead to a big improvement, and i think you should just try it... if the sound stays the same send it back

    @EmoRarity:
    You can't exactly reproduce a digital signal and it's not meant to be reproduced exactly because that would sound weird . But because of this, different DACs produce different signals and cheap DACs aren't as "tuned" as better DACs. For the most part amps just add volume and while some will sound nicer this is not where the main quality gain happens..

    That's wrong... there's a lot to be gained with a good DAC quality wise(and more than with an amp). And digital to analog conversion is definitely always useful, because without that you would hear nothing...

    @Chronic: It would definitely be an improvement. I doubt the STX or Fiio would sound much different tough.
    If you go with an internal sound card the drivers really can be a big problem, had to retire my Auzentech Prelude because of that. So if you don't absolutely need dolby headphone or what ever build in surround emulation go with an external sound card.

    I'm not sure about multiple users but having the files on the NAS is no problem. Just add a network drive and in Steam chose a library folder on the NAS. I played wargame airland battle via NAS and had 0 problems. CS:GO lagged, but i'm not sure if that's because it streams game content or the game itself is fucked up after all the updates the "devs" made...

    Edit:I attached a screenshot how it's set up... G: is a NAS drive.
