Minimal IP. That's the EMIB part that's key. Those watching future computer tech have been tracking EMIB for a while. (It's effectively an advanced interposer, but it's a lot more swiss-army knife than that.) Intel can hook almost anything onto a board with it, though the real application is in a few years with "chiplets".

Main thing for Intel is they need more graphics power in certain products, but between IP issues and development costs, paying AMD is a lot cheaper.

VirtualNinja reacted to MageTank in Intel i9 CPU's get the finalized specs announced
Can't say, but it boils down to: the CPU's were already halfway through their production cycle (the 7980X was already finished when we got the 10 cores launched on the market) and they didn't want to spend the cost of going back to do the solder process. It was a pure marketing decision, as the actual engineers were against not soldering the die.

We will get a real confirmation once Der8auer inevitably delids one (you'd pretty much have to in order to get any real overclocking out of it), but yeah... It's not looking good for Intel's HEDT platform. You know the sad part? I completely expect Intel to release an X299 refresh with the only difference being soldered dies, and they will use the additional thermal headroom to squeeze a little extra clock speed out of them, and sell it as an entirely new product. This part is only speculation, but I certainly would not put it past them.

VirtualNinja reacted to gcubed in Linustechtips got acquired by Nvidia?
Actually, LTT acquired Nvidia through some decidedly shady stock manipulation. It was a hostile takeover. Nvidia's entire senior management team has been "released" and the organization chart has changed. Slick is now COO and a Zip Tie has been installed as CEO. The dress code has been changed and now everyone is required to wear sandals. The new Nvidia logo is a turnip.

that's the thing I don't understand in recent LTT videos:
It is ok to test it with a higher watt cpu for the lol factor, but if it is only designed to cool a 65 W TDP cpu, WHY DON'T THEY TEST IT with a 65W TDP chip to confirm at least if it holds up to what it promises to do?
A really informative video would do the test with the 65W TDP chip, comparing intel stock (that actually comes with the 65W chips intel makes and not slapping one generic version of some other whatever TDP chip on the 7700k) and the 5$ chip. And to have a real comparison, you should run the tests with the stock thermal paste that comes with the coolers and one aftermarket on both so you can see if the heatsink is more limited by the thermal paste that comes with it or the heatsink itself has a bad design. And after that, you could slap it on the 7700k and see what happens.
This video is like having a opel corsa with 69 PS, going to a drag event with tuned american muscle cars and then be suprised that you have the slowest car.
I started watching LTT videos back in 2015 when choosing parts for my first pc. Back then the videos were informative and entertaining at the same time, but since they moved to the new studio, they went more and more crazy and less and less informative. Why can't you @LinusTech start again combining both and not going holy shit and over the top on everything? If the trend continues, I'm probably stop watching the videos, as this shifted form of entertaining is not my taste anymore, and I'm probably not the only one. Clickbaity titles is one thing, but keeping a level of information provided in videos should be possible. Because anybody who will buy that heatsink, probably won't slap it on a 7700k, but probably on a pentium/i3 and will now know not more than before watching that video.

I think people genuinely want AMD to fail.  What I don't understand is everyone should be hoping that AMD has a hit product.  Competition increases innovation and also reduces prices.  If you really think it costs Intel anywhere close to $1k for a 8c/16th you are seriously on crack.

Instead of just using a passive approach of dust filters on the cabinet / rack. (I assume from the clips in the video) Why not add a HEPA air filter to the room to more actively remove and clean the dust from the air?

VirtualNinja reacted to Carclis in rumor has it GTX 1080TI Founders Edition will be an nVidia exclusive
I'm saying that it will probably sell worse as a result of only being available in Nvidias store at launch as opposed to retail stores. I say this because by the time AIB partners release their custom cards we will have Vega at our doorstep.

    Also:

I don't know how that does not count as a GeForce GTX card when even Nvidia calls it one. As I recall it doesn't even have any of the additional half or double precision compute that used to make it a Titan card, so it very much fits the GTX design.

Being durable and performing well are completely different things. If someone purchases a "k" series chip they're obviously pretty likely to have some interest in overclocking and there's an even better chance that they will be limited by thermals as a result of the lower performance paste. How about Intel gives consumers the option to replace the paste between the IHS and die without voiding their warranty for trying to get the performance they should have received?
