  1. Oh ok, I thought that's why a raid controller was faster.
  2. Oh it just dawned on me. Quick question: Does the raid controller bypass the sata, thus bypassing the 6gb/s limitation? I haven't used a raid card before, but from what I've seen, it looks like all the hd's connect to that NOT the mb.
  3. When would u recommend using a Raid controller? If I used one, about how much faster do u think it'd be than without? (ballpark estimate)
  4. Oh so u think this setup is possible with just the onboard? I planned to use a very recent mb(like z97), So I could possibly use a mITX motherboard and have a NIC using the sole pcie slot instead of needing two pcie slots? As long as the Raid0 is fast(for the games), idc how long it takes for the backup to backup on the Raid1. Also could u point me in the right direction on how to do that multiple raid array? That could possibly be another forum post in itself I'm sure lol. So if it's too much "do this, install that" that's fine .
  5. Hey guys/gals! I'm a gamer at heart with the occasional media fluff. I pretty much ONLY play games on my pc, I store my "must always have" media on an external hdd. But I like everything in one place so it's less clutter. So my question is: Can I have 2 SSD's running in Raid 0(for the speed AND storage) and have a Raid1 setup on 2 hdds for backup for my media...all in 1 pc? I realize I can setup a Raid0 with the SSDs in the pc and have a separate storage running Raid1 but want it all in one box so to speak. Plus, to run raid at all wouldn't the external hdds need to be in another pc box with OS and all anyways? Cut out the clutter is the point. Idc if 1 SSD in the Raid 0 fails and I lose all my installed stuff in that little array. I usually uninstall games I haven't played in forever and I usually do a clean Windows install every 6 months anyways.(told ya, I hate clutter XP) Also, would a Raid controller(pcie card) be needed for this? SHOULD it be needed at all? Or is it even fkin possible? lol. I'm noob to networking/storage so a "for dummies" terminology is preferred . THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
  6. Nuc cuz I wanna have a 2nd pc that I can stream to. I STILL don't know how to do that cuz I don't have a 2nd pc lol. Thanks for the giveaway guys u rock!
  7. Do u have any problems recently with the Samsung EVO, or Pro due to that read/write firmware issue? It was supposedly solved back in an October patch but idk since I dont have one yet. Thanks in advance.
  8. Oh so it's 2400, I didn't recognize that. I thought 8 CAS is faster than a 11 but the 2400 can just hold more(like a pitcher compared to a cup). Am I wrong?
  9. Gaming, if I did any video editing it'd be only randomly and not often. The M.2 is only like $20ish bucks more, would that be justifiable instead of getting an SSD to avoid no cables?(just a thought)
  10. So different cpu cooler, ram, and psu. That cooler would be hard to come by(only one store sells it via partpicker) plus it seems too wide and may conflict with 380T's back fan but I'm not sure. That ram is CAS 11(mine was 8). Is CAS 11 better than 8? I thought the lower the CAS(and timings) the better. That's a nice fully modular psu(it'd be great with silverstone short cable kit which includes a really short 24 pin connector) but I'm unfamiliar with XFX psu's. Is it reliable? How's the noise and length? Thank you very much for the suggestions so far!
  11. Tyvm for the suggestions! So CM Hyper TX3 for about $10 cheaper for cpu cooler. Z97i-Plus for motherboard(this was also my 2nd choice) I chose Maximus VII Impact cuz of few extra features like soundcard and BIOS addons such as secureSSD. Why Aegis over the G.Skill? Personal preference? The Aegis' CAS latency is 11(G.Skills are 8 with better clocks). Am I missing something here?(really idk lol) Oh and why remove the M.2? Is it worse than a SSD? Thanks again!
  12. As the title says. After careful consideration (literally investigation lol) I have decided on this build with help from others on the forums. Thanks a LOT u guys. What u guys think of this build? Edited so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/zerojeremy1/saved/CRcBD3 Should it be revised? If so, what parts and why? Budget is $1400, prefer to keep it mITX, and gaming capable. Thanks a ton in advance .
  13. I plan to ditch the silverstone case and use the 380T(I just really like that case) I had a couple of questions for u: 1) Why Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory over Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory? I like the Ballistix more(low form factor) but hows the cooling and speeds compared to the Vengeance? If the Crucials are just as good, I'll grab those instead. 2) Why PNY XLR8 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive over Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive? Are they the same? Cuz the PNY is about $30 cheaper. Thank you for helping me .
  14. This is the revised: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sjW9yc Is it efficient/reliable to use just the M.2 instead of an ssd? (I'm trying to cut out clutter, and using an M.2 takes out two cords) The M.2 is there to compare to the 840 EVO. What u think?
  15. Oh wow I REALLY like that case. It has ample room and it has all the stuff that doesn't really matter(for cooling at least) on the bottom. This is a great build for sure! Way better than the Node 304 imo(304 has all that space behind the gpu to stuff cables that would look bad) at least the 380T can hide em on the bottom. Few questions: Why the Maximus VII instead of the Asus Z97I-Plus? Why the 840 EVO(does it have the issues like the pro series with it's software?) How does it compare with the MX100? Why the h80i and not something else? Could a tall rad like the Hyper 212 EVO fit in there? Why Vengence over Ripjaws?(I have no clue lol) Thanks a lot for the suggestions so far. I think ur build is WAY better than mine lol.
  16. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2284&cmp[]=2275&cmp[]=368 That # of samples scares me lol. But it can clock a LOT higher than the Phenom that I have now. Oh I changed the psu to a gold(I plan to keep the pc on a fair bit) http://pcpartpicker.com/user/zerojeremy1/saved/JfWmP6
  17. So really just go for the no hassle route and set up with all the fans that would come with each component. Do u suggest a different psu? Such as a shorter one? The price could go from $30-$100. I prefer semi-modular or fully modular. I'd prolly still go with that i5 but is it much better than a Phenom II X4 955? I have that and my friend has some older i7(and it runs loops around mine. I also run into fps issues and I know the cpu is the bottleneck). I just don't want another bottleneck lol.
  18. With the node 304 the gpu gets air directly from outside and psu gets it from the bottom. So the front two fans are only intake for the mb and cpu. Would I be able to do a double rad for the cpu cooler instead of that Hyper 212 Evo?(are those 92mm's?) Or would it be better to change out all the fans with better ones(if needed)? With ur suggestions, I'm already saving at least $400 .
  19. So like this?: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gNh33C I was thinking about streaming but without an extra pci-e for a dedicated stream card, I guess that's not gonna happen. I know the gpu is too long, I plan to use a shorter one, just dunno which yet. Possibly gigabyte's new gtx970: http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/gigabyte-mini-itx-gtx-970-graphics-card.html Thank you very much for the suggestions so far .
  20. Just a small one, the smaller the better but it depends on the the clearance and features really. mITX only cuz of it's small form factor and I only need one pci-e x16. I looked at the ML07, it's just like the RVZ01 but not as much ventilation and it's only $15 cheaper, it also seems to lack dust filters(am I wrong about any of that?) So that's two ppl who have suggested the MX100, I'll look into that and the V300. I didn't know about the Evo's software issues, very nice to know. Thank you for the suggestions so far.
  21. 4690K is about $80 cheaper with same socket but it doesn't clock as high and can't handle as many tasks as an i7(feels worth the extra $80 to me) Better cooler? Such as? The case matters a lot here. As for the case, the Node 304 was a runner up but decided against it since I didn't need all those drive bays and the psu COULD conflict with the gpu but it does have a ton of extra room for cpu cooler. Ram was only 16GB cuz it's more than what I have now XP (games such as Landmark eat a TON of ram). But ya, just goin 8GB is half the price so I've been considering it. Evo Pro was only $30 more(I figured it was worth the speed increase since it's the only drive). The mx100 is $50 cheaper(sizable difference there). 500W is good enough? I was afraid how much power would be used when OC'n. Thanks for all the helpful info so far
  22. After a LOT of looking around at cases, mb's, psu's, etc, I have finally decided on this build to ask about. As the title suggests. I'm open for any recommendations. Please state what and why u think it'd be better. (found out couldn't use a liquid cooling cpu like a h60 cuz of the tubing being too long for the RVZ01 and I'd prefer not to use liquid cooled unless it's fully enclosed) (The gfx card/ram is only there as a placeholder for the amount I'm willing to spend on them.) http://pcpartpicker.com/user/zerojeremy1/saved/kkMXsY It'd be a gaming rig with low form factor(so mITX only). Bang for the buck budget, $1400USD is cut off. Thanks a ton in advance. Have fun .
  23. Meh, Idc if I win or lose. If I win AWESOME, if I lose well some1 else probably needs it more than I lol. Thank you guys(LTT) for doing a giveaway and Antec for supplying it. Both of u make great content for us geeks. Now for the thing I find most interesting: I'd say it's the headphones. I always like a good pair of headphones. Why? Cuz if u close your eyes and listen to some music with new headphones it's like a whole new experience (IF they're burned in ofc lol) Keep up the great work guys! I always post stupid crap on this forum(random and usually dumb ideas of mine) and no1 ever flames me for it. Love u guys
  24. K so this Xeon is the same as the 4770k except no overclocking got it. Thks a lot.
