  1. It can't be that, it's very clean, and like I said, the mystery is not the cpu getting hot in itself, it's that it gets hotter in some games that have low cpu usage compared to more demanding games with high cpu usage which makes no sense at all.
  2. Sigh, don't you understand what the problem is? The cpu getting hotter during less load than other games. Also, I already have a laptop cooler, it barely helps.
  3. Keep in mind it's a laptop I'm using, not a desktop. My temperatures can be really low, when surfing or playing certain games, but for whatever reason, some games, despite not having much cpu usage, makes my cpu extremely hot. A mystery to me.
  4. Tried Speccy, unfortunately it has the exact same result, I've got both HWMonitor and Speccy opened at the same time...
  5. As someone with somewhat wide knowledge about computer hardware and software, this is something I don't really understand, and something I hope someone here on LTT has the answer which might solve my problem. Alright so I have an Asus ROG gaming laptop (GL552VW) with an i7 6700HQ. I'm aware that the temperature mentioned in the title is not a big deal, especielly for a laptop cpu, and most of the time I don't reach much higher than that. There are some exceptions (peaking at 90C in The Division and a few other games). What's really confusing here is really that in a few titles, I get this insanely high temp although the game doesn't really require much performance. Today I checked the cpu load and it was 11% when the temperature was at 80C which is, well, weird. Considering I've played games using well over 50% cpu usage and having a lower temperature. Hold on, it gets more confusing. I've even tried with having Turbo activated and deactivated (stock speed is at 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz in Turbo) and there is barely any difference in temperature. I also tried changing cpu affinity, only allowing games to use 2 cores, did the performance drop? Quite a bit, did the temperature? Maximum of 4C degrees drop. I'm confused and disappointed, and as much as I like my laptop, it's sad having this issue with heat. Maybe I should've chosen the cheaper version with an i5 6300HQ, because frankly, in what universe would an i5 be the bottleneck in a PC with a 960m? If it's of anyones interest, I use HWMonitor to view my temperatures.
  6. Dota2 active playerbase is 13million. The thing though is that Dota2 is more relevant in the pro scene. League is a more casual game in comparison (although still competetive compared to many other games). Pros from other games than Dota2 switched to it because it's a much much better game to play competetively. Valve doesn't nerf or buff items or heroes because the playerbase wants it, they do it according to the pro scene. Which sucks for regular casual players because the gameplay is different in a casual matchmaking game than a serious team vs team one. Now obviously the main reason why LoL is so much bigger is because they were first, the first Dota doesn't count since it was A: a mod. B: a game that cost money, so not f2p like LoL and Dota2 is now. Anyhow, it's kind of stupid to say that any of those games are anything close to irrelevant when they're top 5 most popular games of all time and both are growing...
  7. I looked it up and on a top 100 earning pro players, the top 55 are only Dota 2 players, and in total I think 78 of the 100 top earning players are dota players.
  8. Perhaps, but my requirements are not high. I'm currently playing Dota 2 90% of the time I play games, occasionally I play GTA V, Battlefront and maybe some old games or emulated games. I guess you're right though, Christmas sales will come and maybe I can get a good deal. I suppose the biggest reason for high prices is the fact that retailers want to get rid of the older laptops with last gen technology in them, but at the same time their margins are low and they'd lose a lot if they drop prices too much. Sigh.. I'd prefer ordering from inside the country as it's easier if something happens and I need to use my warranty, but I'll look into it, might be worth it if the prices are significantly lower.
  9. That is extremely ignorant, considering every single professional player (and every single top-leaderboard player) has many many years of playing, many played for a decade, I'd say most played that long or nearly that long. CS:GO doesn't take nearly as much practice and I'm assuming neither does RL. There is so much to understand behind the game that you might think you know the game well after a year of playing, but then after another year you realize you didn't know much at all. While Dota does have a lot of mechanical skills, the things that matter the most is knowledge and intelligence. Mechanical skills alone won't get you far at all, while it certainly can in both Rocket League and CSGO. I don't know how much time you've spent playing Dota or LoL or any such game, but I highly doubt it's much.
  10. So for the past month or so I've been looking for gaming laptops, because soon (as soon as possible, because I'm quite impatient hehe) I'm selling my desktop. I'm interested in a laptop because I need to be able to move around, and I'd prefer not having both a desktop and a laptop, the less units the better. Anyhow, as of now there are only 3 pascal cards, and the 1060 being the only one remotely in the range of my budget. I could settle with a last gen gpu, but the prices are way off. A laptop with a 970m costs pretty much the same as a laptop with 1060, and same goes for 965m, and anything lower (960m for instance) is kind of low performance and not really worth it. Mind you I'm referring to prices in my country (Sweden) it might be completely different in other countries. I'm quite interested in what the 1050 will be like, I'm guessing it's going to be in laptops around the price of what 965m is right now, or maybe even 960m, but I doubt that. TL;DR, like the title says, any information on the upcoming gpus for laptops is welcome. It's been hard to find for me, maybe there is none, or my google skills simply suck.
